That really sucks MacAdmin. How close to the expected ship date did you hear that it was going to be pushed back - did they tell you at the last minute? I'm still sitting with a Nov 8 ship, but i'm worried they'll push mine too come that day. I'm convinced it's all Edu orders that they are screwing.

The day AFTER my original ship date I got the notification.

no, mine - 2.33ghz 2gb 160gb glossy - is edu purchase, ordered the 30th of october, supposed to ship the 6th of nov. and delivery the 14th nov., it actually shipped the 4th nov. and was attemped delivered today 6th nov. but my buddy wast home home to sign for it. i choose regular shipping too :D .

Well, you got lucky maybe(?). My order reached apple on the 30th (6am pst) and still no sign that it will ship.
I know of two people who ordered the same setup (2.16/2GB/160GB/matte) on the 3rd, one has a ship date of the 14th (normal non-edu order) and the other (an edu order) the 28th. stinks.

Am I the only one?

Am I the only one that has a world time webpage bookmarked so I can always find out what time it is in Shanghai?

Got the World Time app installed on my phone, with San Jose (home) and Shanghai timezones prominently displayed on the front at all times?

Set the third TZ on my watch to Shanghai time, so even if I'm away from my phone and my laptop I know whether or not the Apple factory might be building/shipping my precious 17" macbook pro?

Am I the only one so tired of waiting to have gone to these utterly nerdy ends?

:D

Plus, I thought they worked 24/7 over there anyway. :p
But yea, I have world times too, I just watch my bankaccount, order page and these forums all the time for some tidbits on possible action on my machine..

New MacBook C2D

Yes! Just got MBP C2D today! Apple shipped it FAST, it went out Friday and got here in KY this morning. Lovely machine, no dead pixels, whines, or any other issues. Love new mac smell!! Time to download some goodies onto here.....:D

P.S. If anyone doesn't know, you can get a $400 discount via Apple Student Developer Connection (hardware purchase program).

16 hours ahead here... But math is hard, I have expensive toys to do it for me!

In all seriousness, yeah, I've been doing that too, I'm just tired of seeing everyone gush over theirs, I want mine too! :(

Hopefully it'll ship "today" in Shanghai, which would in fact be the 7th. I just want it to arrive no later than Thursday, so I can take it with me this weekend.

Well, I was using the world clock widget on my PBG4 to see Shanghai time, but mine was delivered to the office this morning at 8:15! The problem is that I am sick today and didn't go in to work (the est. FedEx delivery was the 8th).:(
So I guess I'll stop by after hours to pick mine up...

I just spoke with Apple customer service and they "assured" me that 17" MBP shipments would not be delayed. She also mentioned that if you selected 2-3 day shipping, your order should arrive by the 10th at the latest.

Since I assume that business in Shanghai is roughly on a 9am-5pm schedule, I wouldn't expect anything to happen for the next 6 hours or so.

Here's hoping that our 17ers are boxed on the loading dock just waiting for a FedEx truck. :)

Did you order yours with a .edu discount or through a .edu b2b store (i.e. it was paid for by an educational institution). It seems that the latter is being delayed.

Answers:
(MBP C2D - 15" base configuration)

-When I tried to play Counter-Strike Source using Crossover, I noticed the case getting hot around the left speaker, but I haven't had any heating issues besides that.

-No mooing as far as I can tell.

-Hard Drive: FUJITSU MHW2120BH

-Airport Reception - this is my first laptop, so I don't have anything to compare it to. I really can't complain, though. I am not very close to the router, and I am getting 12/15 bars of reception!

-My app use has varied a lot, but I have been getting 2-3h of real battery life. Some of the apps that I have used so far are: Div X Player, Crossover, Steam, Counter-Strike Source, Firefox, iChat (with video conference,) Adium, etc.

Thanks. I'm thinking I will be better off going to my local Best But a getting a Sony SZ laptop + a 24" monitor from Dell. What a way to treat your customers, Apple!

Yep, that'll sure teach Apple. And you getting stuck with a crappy windows machine, well....that doesn't matter, because Apple learned their lesson.

You have a warranty for a reason.

I ordered a 15" 2.33GHz, 160GB HD, matte screen MBP on 10/31 and it was waiting for me on my desk when I got to work this morning.

I'm a switcher and still getting used to some of the changes. Granted, I've had a G4 mac mini for about a year and am familiar with OSX, but I haven't used it enough to get used to it. This will be my full-time system so I'll have some transition time over the intervening weeks.

BTW, it's sitting on my couch sleeping while I calibrate the battery. GRRR, this is annoying. :(

Preinstalled apps?

What applications beyond just OS/X come preinstalled on the new MacBook? Any of the Omni applications still? Not the trial ware like Office, but usable applications. What would be lost by a clean install?

yes, i'm sure all of us who ordered our 15" MBPs before you, and who are still waiting to hear when they will ship would be so annoyed to have to wait to calibrate the battery - i'd happily wait 24h to calibrate the battery before even using the damn thing if i had it in my hands......

Thanks but no thanks.

[RANT] It's not even been two weeks and already there are reports of people being on their second, even third C2D MBP! I don't want to be spending my lunch breaks for the next 6 months at the Genius Bar <snort> over there at the Cambridge Galleria, arguing with some smug kid about whether there is or isn't a problem with my $3000 Apple notebook (not unless they'll fix me a few gin&tonics while I'm waiting my turn :D ). If I'm not happy with it, I want all of my money back. Period. Who knows, I may turn around and buy another Apple computer (perhaps even the same model I just returned), but I don't think Apple has any right to stand in my way if I decide to take my money elsewhere. For Christ's sake, Apple is making at least 30% pure profit on every MBP they sell (do you think they would be offering a 20% developer discount otherwise?), so I think that forcing the customer to pay some bogus 10% restocking fee is simply unconscionable. [/RANT]

Then go find a magical company that makes a perfect laptop that never has any problems and never needs to be returned ever.

Most companies will charge some sort of restocking fee, one way or the other. If you can find one that doesn't, go ahead and get a laptop from them. But to act like Apple is somehow unique or screwing you over because they will charge a restocking fee for something that doesn't fit the general industry standard for being defective is ridiculous.

And in my experience Apple is better than most in addressing problems and resolving them to my satisfaction. My Ti PowerBook was getting dimmer at the bottom of the screen after 2.5 years and they cheerfully gave me a new screen without any argument 6 months before the AppleCare ran out. My Toshiba has been in 2 times and needs another visit to get all the issues resolved from a failed fan that cooked the insides. I will take Apple and the Genius bar with real people over depot service to a third party that blames the manufacture who you can never talk directly to.
