I assume this one needs to be returned, what am I seeing beneath the fan? This unit seems to have a BIOS switch for Gaming/Compute.

Update: Got a refund from ebay, great customer service. Happy with that.

Got another used Sapphire Pulse RX 580 8GB in 100% better condition from Marketplace in The Netherlands:

Gave it a cleanup, put it together again and installed it. So far so good.

I'm experiencing a (text) render issue on the second HDMI port for monitor 0:

Monitor 0 - main display 2nd HDMI
Monitor 1 - extended display 1st HDMI
Monitor 3 - extended display DVI

What could be the cause of the render issue? Is it OCLP related perhaps?

Update: resolved the issue using a DisplayPort cable iso the HDMI cable.

Item arrived well packed and in perfect condition from Ebay (seller was from Czech Republic). The Radeon RX 580 card is compatible with my Mac Pro 5,1. A pleasant surprise. It replaced my Geforce 980 which doesn't support Mojave and higher although it was a reasonably fast card.

I didn't use additional power at this moment.
Is this what I need?
K26S SATA cable 15-pin to 6-pin PCI Express power adapter graphics card 15 cm?

A 1x 8-pin to 2x mini 6-pin cable should be sufficient to power the RX580. You shouldn't need additional SATA power or anything.

You are forgetting overclocked versions, like Sapphire Nitro/Nitro+/Nitro+ SE and others - these require additional power, preferably Pixla's mod for anyone gaming/rendering.

Even a standard Sapphire Pulse can trigger SMC PSU emergency shutdown when used full throttle, but for most people is nothing something that frequently occurs.

This is the one I bought
11265_05_RX580_Pulse_8GB_800x500_02.png

It has an 8 pin and 6 pin slot, but it seems the 6 pin is not used or needed. It's the same card as my first Sapphire Pulse, except it's now from China. Luckilly, I definitely don't have the Nitro. I never used the 6 pin with my first card and I didn't have unexpected shutdowns, even not with Furmark.

There is no Sapphire Pulse with 8 + 6-pin power connectors, go to the Sapphire site and check it.

The PCB of Pulse have pads for ONLY one 8-pin power connector, see this photo of the back of the PCB from @m4v3r1ck Pulse, first post on this exact page:

If you got a one that have 8 + 6-pin, is a Sapphire Nitro something with a pair of Pulse fans, maybe a Pulse heatsink or something along the lines.

Here is another picture of my card.
11265_05_RX580_Pulse_8GB_800x500_05.png

It's only connected with the 8-pin. You are right. I'm sorry.

Hello,
I just got the same card but missed the point that the Mac Pro 4.1 PCB has two Mini 6pin connectors and my previous card had two 6pin connectors instead of one 8pin connector.
Now I'm wondering where i can get the correct cable from Mini 6pin to 8pin. I tried the term "MicroFit" from the original post/wiki entry but did not find an appropriate cable.
Maybe it is worth mentioning that I like to order in Europe.

Regards
Michael

FWIW I run three 4k displays from a RX570 with three DP and one HDMI ports, but it seems RX580 is different in this regard?
Hi,
i am a absolute beginner in here.

someone donated me a CMP3,1. I also happen to have Sapphire Nitro+ 4gb RX 570 (says Mining Edition).

I bought a power adapter to convert 2 x 6 pins power output to one 8 pins into GPU. Now i have 6 pins power socket unplugged on my rx 570.

i managed to install the opencore monterey using an nvidia gpu but opencore does not support root patches on yhis card.

My questions are
-do i need to power my gpu 8+6 pins to get it work or 8 pins is enough?
-how do i power my rx 570 and additional 6 pins? what do i need?

thanks in advance.

Sure OCLP comes along with root patches for Polaris, which your RX 570 is. You might have to clear root patches first and then install them again, if you had some other GPU installed before.

You need to connect both of the plugs. But as your card has a TDP of no more than 150 watts, powering it wiht the mainboard's connectors should be ok. You shold find a 2 x mini 6pin to 1 x 8pin cable, And another one to split the power to both of your card's connectors, which means female 8pin to 2 x 8 (6+2) pins.

Is this card compatible with a Mac Pro 5,1?

Sapphire Radeon RX 580 8G Pulse, 4895106281905. from China

I have another Sapphire Radeon Pulse RX 580 in my first Mac Pro 5,1 that works well without additional power.
I bought the same card from the same seller and have issues trying to enable GOP as it seeems that the BIOS from the card has been modified. I can't seee the OCLP menu. The sellers marks it as unmodified GPU but seems otherwise. Did you manage to enable GOP to get the Boot menu?

For anyone interested, I've flashed the original BIOS of the card and now I have the OCLP boot screen menu. Till then, creating the OCLP with amd gop inject worked fine as well. But these ebay ads are misleading, be careful.
