I have a Pixel 3a XL on Android 12. That's plenty.Just get an Android and run Linux on it.

I did always wish Android manufacturers put some more effort into their tablets. They never had enough raw horsepower for me, but I saw a lot of potential in them. Maybe the new Pixel one and the emphasis on foldables will change that. Still, especially now that I have Logic on the iPad, it's gonna take a lot of dev time to get that ecosystem in a place worth switching to.I am using a Samsung Tab S2, from 2016. Still going strong, never had any issues. Its been dropped, sprayed water on, never skipped a beat. Samsung is BOSS
IMO the best phone is a Pixel with GrapheneOS on it. Perfection. Secure, and gets updates.I have a Pixel 3a XL on Android 12. That's plenty.![]()

I'm a huge Parsec user. Just the fact that it's supported by Android and Dex could very well mean that 80% of the time I could leave all my computers at home and just jack into my Mac or PC from a Dex-connected phone and monitor. The temptation has been very real.It would be neat. I thought it was pretty cool when I had a Note 10.
Just keep in mind it's a Samsung only thing, which is fortunate, because Samsung makes amazing phones.I'm a huge Parsec user. I actually only ever had bad luck with Samsung back in my Android days. I loved my LGs, too bad they're done for. Still, I'll be on team iPhone as long as I'm using my Mac and iPad, and Windows seems to be a very long way off from competing on that front.Just keep in mind it's a Samsung only thing, which is fortunate, because Samsung makes amazing phones.
Samsung phones used to be absolutely terrible, but they're amazing now, I promise. Once they pulled their heads from their nether regions they've been making great strides in tech. I'm probably never leaving the iPhone, though. I've gone back and forth with the latest iPhone and Samsung models (and at one point a Pixel), but I keep ending up back on the iPhone again.I actually only ever had bad luck with Samsung back in my Android days. clean them up and sell them for 100 each lolLOL, don't read too much into it. The 3GS, the 4 and the 4s were never primary phones and all of them cost me under $30 to get between 2019 and 2021.![]()
Because everything feels smoother than on Android, and of course the marketing is soo effectiveSamsung phones used to be absolutely terrible, but they're amazing now, I promise. I am neither careless nor dumb enough to send ssn, with out secure password in a message. I don’t trust and assume other person is deleting the text. I don’t do business with any one who can’t send me secure link with required password protection for SSN and other important PII.So you don't trust Apple either then.
I don't trust Google as well, but I use their services, giving them as little info as possible while still being able to use those services.
And I do that on an iPhone.
Google is horrible. I dont use anything Google at all. Dont even have an account with them. Every step is tracked and stored in their massive data centers.I am neither careless nor dumb enough to send ssn, with out secure password in a message. I have no problem opening a secure document on iPhone, never want my PII floating with out security.
Everything feels smoother on the latest Samsung phones, actually. It's like they dipped their operating system in butter.Because everything feels smoother than on Android, and of course the marketing is soo effective
I could eat 3 sleeves of Oreos and a gallon of ice cold milk right now.I really want an Oreo, but I don't have the calories for it today...![]()
The inference here is crazy, but I will assume you're speaking in general and not making implications.I am neither careless nor dumb enough to send ssn, with out secure password in a message. If I didn’t trust apple, I wouldn’t be using an iPhone. I understand there is no fool proof security, but I don’t want to be a product for google to sell.
You can shut that stuff off and you can use ad blockers. I've had an account with them for years - but I've also used uMatrix (a browser addon) for years that hides my tracks and blocks ads and third party tracking/scripts. Every time I drop into a website I always appear as if I came from out of nowhere - because that's what uMatrix does.Google is horrible. I dont use anything Google at all. To be fair, it only gets updates as long as Google does them. They don't extend beyond Google's update schedule, which is not amazing. Graphene is still the best option for Android, IMO.IMO the best phone is a Pixel with GrapheneOS on it. Perfection. Secure, and gets updates.
If you really want to refuse to deal with green bubbles, I have a simple solution for you. Stop texting people. Call them. Problem solved.Exactly proves my point. Why do I need to have a compromised communication experience in the US just because of someone else's device choice? I don't need to and I refuse to.
If it doesnt get updates i honestly dont care. I dont need Google's spyware updates on my phone anyway. I have been fine with having no updates with Android 7 for years now.To be fair, it only gets updates as long as Google does them. They don't extend beyond Google's update schedule, which is not amazing. Graphene is still the best option for Android, IMO.
Oh, i just dont know. I am just parrotting YTs now lol. I am still stuck at Android 7 ...Everything feels smoother on the latest Samsung phones, actually. It's like they dipped their operating system in butter.
I could eat 3 sleeves of Oreos and a gallon of ice cold milk right now.
That is a nice idea, but you think Google cant create solutions to problems like a browser add-on interfering with their data collection with all of their money? You can shut that stuff off and you can use ad blockers. I've had an account with them for years - but I've also used uMatrix (a browser addon) for years that hides my tracks and blocks ads and third party tracking/scripts. Every time I drop into a website I always appear as if I came from out of nowhere - because that's what uMatrix does.
I've never had any problems with Google or targeted advertising.
PS. There are also browser addons that kill your browsing history. Mine's always set to zero and wipe on quit. But there's never anything to wipe, because at 0, nothing is ever recorded in the first place.
Sure they can. But what good does it do advertisers who buy anything of mine Google has to sell if they never reach me?That is a nice idea, but you think Google cant create solutions to problems like a browser add-on interfering with their data collection with all of their money?
Ok, fair enough. I just use a no-exception adblocker though.Sure they can. But what good does it do advertisers who buy anything of mine Google has to sell if they never reach me?
Let's assume for the moment that I frequent doormat sites a lot and that ACME Doormat Company has bought all the info Google has to tell about me and doormat sites. What I like to buy, how much and how often. All the sordid details. They pay Google a lot of money for it.
When browsing, I don't see a single ACME Doormat company ad. In fact, I don't see any ads at all. Maybe I get a text, or a call or an email. I block all three. They send me a letter. It goes right into the trash can or recycle bin unopened.
So now ACME Doormat Company had paid Google a lot of money for my info and they've sold me exactly…zero doormats. And quite possibly gotten enough attention from me so that I will never step foot in one of their stores or visit their website. I've been ignoring people, businesses, and creditors in all forms since my family's first answering machine in the late 80s.
So what good does this do them?
Me with a green bubble--Macrumors shouldn't even let you register an account unless you own an iPhone. IMEI and two factor authentication to confirm you're part of the Blue Bubble Brigade or you're out! This green bubble nonsense needs to cease, and especially around here. Shame on you green bubblers!
