Try the install again and during install, show the log window (One of the menu options in the ML install). I had this problem as well and leaving the log window worked. YMMV

Had this problem too what jakesaunders27 discribes. Do i need to save the log, i guess not. Trying it now with your solution.

Tried it, but still the same problem.

UPDATE: WHOOPS! My BAD! I forgot to read the instructions in the MLPostFactor app very careful. You need to install MLPostFactor on your ML partition after the normal installation is finished!

Has anyone run into problems with Chrome crashing? Seems to be the only problem so far for me (MLPostFactor on a Late 2007 White Macbook).

I am experiencing the same crash on MacBook 4,1 with GMA X3100. It's sort of a hit and miss, sometimes opening a tab or switching to a tab would cause the graphics thread to crash.

install partition

Quick Question - can i delete the install partition after it has finished installing and i am booted?

Cheers

Yes you can delete it, but a better thing to do is to use an 8gb flash drive in place of the Install HD partition. This way you gain HD space and still have your Install if you need it later.
Just my opinion.

I have a special request here. Since my imac has no lcd and i can't complete the install portion or MLPF on it,

Is it possible to that someone with a similar imac makes an image of the drive after the install portion and i could restore that image on my drive ?

If anyone would be kind enough to do that for me i'll be happy to pay a few bucks for it ! Like, upload the image to a torrent or some file sharing site or anything else.

Thanks in advance to anyone.. (well, if it wouldn't work, please someone tell me!!)

MacBook Air 1.1

Hello to all of you.

I red a lot on this topic but I still can't understand couple of things. First of all let me explain what I'm thinking of. I have MacBook Air 1,1 from late 2008 i guess and I want to try this new OS X 10.8. Now I'm running 10.7.5
I understood everything I have to do with the partitions but I cant understand what is happening with my old operating system. Since this macs don't have a lot of space its hard to keep them both (10.7 and 10.8) on the same hdd and have other free space for all other files. So what can I do to stay with one of them only or this is not good idea?
I saw also that other people have problems with their mac on 10.8.4 concerning wifi connectivity. I red somewhere that 10.8.3 doesn't have this problem but who can tell :D

Hope someone can help me.

After doing MLPF on a MBA 1,1 with a 64GB SSD, it's messy.

You need an 8GB install partition- some people are offloading this onto a thumb drive, I didn't.

You need a Mountain Lion partition - this needs to be as big as possible!

Once you have booted to the Install partition, you could, in theory, delete the Lion partition and assign it's space to ML. Doing this means you can't upgrade/fix any issues so it's a reinstall of Lion if you screw up.

However once you install ML you will find that you can't increase it even if you delete the Lion partition- you can't resize the main partition. So I ended up having to have ML on a tiny partition, do some hackery to get it to fit and be stable, and use a larger data partition. In the future I'd probably do a USB install partition then do the whole OS on one partition.

I did 10.8.4 and no problems, iMessages work. Hope for the best for you.

MacBook Air 1.1

What will happened if you choose to instal the operating system not in the ML partition but in the Lion partition? Will it mess everything or it will overwrite the Lion's files and work properly?

In theory all you would be doing is an OS upgrade, it ought to work properly. that's my guess.

Specs:

Late 2006 Macbook running Lion:apple:

Trying to install OSX 10.8.4

Any ideas?

Edit: Just corrected the syntax error in ML but having the same issue. Was playing around with it before the screenshot.

Is your Lion at least 10.7.5? If it is I don't know what is wrong. Good luck.

I think that it may work for you to do this with a virtual machine (VM).
You could make a blank disk image in Disk Utility and then apply MLPF to it when it's mounted in the system.
Then you ought to be able to boot the VM off the MLPF disk image and install from that.
You could then potentially make your VM disk into a disk image and restore that to your hard disk.

I think that ought to work, but, due to the nature of a VM, it may not provide an accurate identification of your iMac, since hackerwayne has suggested to get 10.8 by making a Parallels 10.7 VM... This would seem to indicate that your model type is masked by Parallels.

That's just an idea; I don't know if it will or won't work, but it seems like it is fairly low-risk and has a fairly good chance of working out.

Good luck!

iMessages/Messages Unsupported Mac Pro OS X 10.8

Could someone using this method on there unsupported Mac Pro that has Messages working PLEASE elaborate how in the heck it is accomplished. I HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING including updating Chameleon and placing the FileNVRAM.dylib in a modules folder in /Extra which seems to be the current universal fix but alas no love for me. I even switched to using the latest Chimera 2.1.1 which as stated by the developer is specifically designed to fix Messages/iMessages and while it boots both my OS X 10.8.4 & 10.9 quite nicely still nothing Messages wise. Oddly both iCloud and FaceTime which my understanding is that they operate on the same login work perfectly...its just Messages that I can not "activate". Needless to say I am not in the least dismayed with the problems I am having with Messages. When googling this stinking app and the various issues with it there are literally endless amounts of forums, the majority of which are folks on supported machines, that cannot get this piece of crap app to function properly.

Just an f.y.i. with the hope of saving others from potentially wasting hours like I did for a working solution. I tried everything while attempting to get my Messages working/activated and after performing countless numbers of very detailed solutions it ended up being as simple as attaching a valid Credit Card to my Apple ID registration...that is it.

OH, i didn't think about this way. Thanks !!!!

I don't have a mac, but, i do have a VMWare workstation installed with a OSX 10.7.x vm on which i could install parrallels, then create a vm from the mlpf like you suggested. Can a vm run in a vm ? hehe, i'll find out. trying this out now..

thanks again :D

It seems parrallels desktop doesn't like the mlpostfactor'ed dmg, or running into a vm into a vm... getting all kind of errors.. no dice :\

I haven't tried this; it was just an idea I had. Although I might wind up trying it now that it doesn't seem to be working out...
From what I know, a VM ought to be fine in a VM. It just might wind up needing more RAM than usual (since you have two VM's and the OS running all at the same time).

Does your iMac still run OS X properly or at least well enough that you can run a VM inside of it?

@Wayne, any possibility of setting up an issue tracker on GitHub or something similar? Seems like the format would be better for a lot of people who are posting issues and solutions on this forum.

Okay, it seems in VMWare workstation in the processor options i had the option of passing the vt-d to the vm grayed out (i was using a downloaded osx vm..)

So i re-created a VM from scratch with 10.8 in VMWare workstation 9, and now i can pass the vt-d to the VM, installed MLPF to a new disk image with 10.8.4, then created a new vm in VMWare fusion, and it seems to be installing now from the MLPF dmg' :)

So, installing osx in a vm, that's running in a vm.. I'll see how it goes.

Thanks Doritez, that did the trick! Hopefully a workaround will pop up later so we can use current versions *crosses fingers*

EDIT: Still crashes every once in a while, but a lot less.
