OS upgrade

What will happened if you choose to instal the operating system not in the ML partition but in the Lion partition? Will it mess everything or it will overwrite the Lion's files and work properly?

I did that. I've been using ML 10.8.4 for about a month, so far, no problems :D

Installing over Lion

Tell us how you did it?

Hey!

I used and external HDD, but I guess that a large flash drive would do as well. I the external disc, I created a partition, which I used to make the MLPostFactor installation image, then I just followed the guide step by step, but instead of making a partition for the new system, I selected the Lion partition in my internal hard drive when installing.

I hope it still helps you, I've been offline for a while.

Any news on the problems with MacPro1,1 and upgraded graphic cards? As much as I appreciate all the work on 10.9, I'd really love to have my beloved Mac finally running ML.

Thanks

Oh well, giving up, been installing for about 12 hours stuck at 12 minutes remaining..

I guess i'm still stuck. lol

Okay, it seems in VMWare workstation in the processor options i had the option of passing the vt-d to the vm grayed out (i was using a downloaded osx vm..)

So i re-created a VM from scratch with 10.8 in VMWare workstation 9, and now i can pass the vt-d to the VM, installed MLPF to a new disk image with 10.8.4, then created a new vm in VMWare fusion, and it seems to be installing now from the MLPF dmg' :)

So, installing osx in a vm, that's running in a vm.. I'll see how it goes.

Are any of you guys getting Chrome crashes on MLPF 0.3?

I'm able to consistently crash the latest version of Chrome (at the time of this posting) by going to engadget.com and then trying to open a new tab. It crashes every single time without fail.

This does not occur on Lion 10.7.5. I'm on 10.8.2 MLPF 0.3.

Thanks Doritez, that did the trick! Hopefully a workaround will pop up later so we can use current versions *crosses fingers*

EDIT: Still crashes every once in a while, but a lot less.
You're welcome :) it recently started crashing for me as well what i did was uninstalled it with appcleaner emptied the trash repaired disk permissions and reinstalled it but yeah hopefully there will be a work around for it or install chromium instead

uninstall your current version then repair disk permissions then Download google chrome version 27 that works for me h__p://google-chrome.en.uptodown.com/mac change the underscores to tt look to the right of the web page you'll see previous versions click version 27.

Question for anyone running MLPF on a c2d imac or macbook;

At the end, is it worth the trouble to get ML to run on those computers, or it runs better under snow leopard ?

Or.. is it better to try getting mavericks on those units (been reading ppl that say it's snappier than ML on older macs...)

Any advice ? thanks a lot.

I've been playing around with this for about ten months and have found 10.8.xx to be quite useful on two different Macbooks, a 3,1 and, currently, a 2,1.
For me the whole process has been worth it.

My MacBook Pro feels a bit faster with 10.8 than it did with Snow Leopard. I don't have Mavericks, so I can't say.

I've had a progress bar get stuck before, but I agree that, after 12 hours, it's probably not worth waiting any longer. Oh well. It was just an idea. Now I need to try it myself to see if it will work...
It may have gotten stuck because it was trying to upgrade the boot partition and it couldn't do that with the virtual disk. Again, I don't know for sure. Time to make a VM, I guess.

I tried v0.3 32-bit with my Mac Pro 1.1 with upgraded graphics card but it went to grey screen eventually . . . the install seemed to be busy doing stuff for about 10 minutes then ground to a halt with black whirly thing bottom centre screen.

Maybe have to wait for 64bit version to be debugged and made available? That said though it does mention support for original mac pro's with graphics upgrades on 32-bit . . . so I'm also wondering if I'm missing something?

cheers all

P.S. I'm pretty sure I've been a member here since forever but can't find my old login stuff! A well, newbie time again . . . :D

working smb with mlion 10.8.4

Sorry if this is a bit off topic - but if its useful to somebody:)

It is a bit of an inconvenience to not have samba working on my hackintosh /or apple.

However , I have found this free application called MUCOMMANDER that works a treat!

It is an alternative finder - and a very good one - which also does various data transfers, smb ftp sftp etc,

Just use it as a normal alternative finder - it works fine for samba as server and client!!

Hope thats useful for some

It makes my 10.8.4 installation almost perfect!

many thanks to everyone involved

Download link dead?!

The download link for v0.3 on the osxhackers website is dead. V0.22 is available elsewhere.

Where can I download the software v0.3?

Thanks,

When I clicked on the download link from the installation page, it used a shortened URL that directed to a porn site. [Insert humorous comment here].

Any other ideas?

A lot of people have been experiencing an unusable Chrome (latest version). When you open Chrome, it will crash after a few moments. Somebody suggested using Chrome version 27, which crashes a little less.

Using v0.3 with the :Install OSX Mountain Lion.app at 4.46GB version 1.3.24
on Mac Pro 2 x 2.66GHz Dual Core Xeon with upgraded ATI HD 5770 graphics & 14 GB RAM

Installation appears to go OK for about 5 minutes when it stops with whirly thing bottom centre screen against a white/grey screen. Just before it seemed to be stopping in that the whirly graphic would freeze, but then it would start again. I eventually hard restarted after leaving it frozen for about ten minutes.

should I wait for the 64-bit version? I'm using two screens - will it make any difference to disconnect one of them during the install?

thanks

iMessage

Hi,
I used the MLPostFactor software to install Mountain Lion on my MacBook Late 2006, so far so good , except for iMessage.
When I try to login to iMessage, it tells me, "The server encountered an error processing registration. Please try again later."

Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks,
Ollie.
