I used v0.3 and 10.8.4 app and followed the exact steps. I did have to reboot from the Install partion, my FireWire drive, to apply MLpostFactor after successful installation followed by a self restart.
I'm a bit puzzled here. I tried running MLP 0.3 on my iMac6,1 (late 2006) 10.5.8 (2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo), however when I try to run it, I get:
"You cannot use this version of the application MLPostFactor with this version of Mac OS X".
Anyone have any suggestions?
Great! Thank you. I was able to download.
I'm getting an error when I try to run MLPostFactor telling me "Install OS X Mountain Lion.app not found." It's in the Applications folder along with MLPostFactor so I'm not sure what the real problem is.
My setup in case it is the cause:
I have Lion installed on an external hard drive. This is a bare bones installation with no other apps installed. I have MLPostFactor and Install Mac OS X Mountain Lion in the Applications folder. I'm currently running off this startup disk.
UPDATE:
Seems as though this setup does not work. I ran it from my laptop's hard drive and it worked to create the install drive. I was able to install on the external drive and got an installation successful message but the computer will not boot. The instructions said that I should get a installation failed message. I'm going to try rebooting to the install drive and running MLPostFactor on the 10.8 drive as if the installation failed as expected. Any advice in the meantime would be appreciated.
I'm installing on a MacBook 2,1 (I think. It was the first C2D MacBook.).
After a little bit of trial and error it turns out that the Mountain Lion installer I had was not 10.8.4 as I thought. I downloaded it again and it worked. I did encounter something different than in the instructions. The installation said it was successful, but would not reboot. In fact, the computer would not restart even if you manually chose to while running on the install partition. I had to power off the laptop and boot from the install drive to continue with the instructions. I was able to boot from the ML drive after running MLPostFactor.
I'm trying things out and things seem to be working pretty well so far. The only issue so far is that Messages will not let me sign into iMessages. Anyone else encounter this? I haven't determined if this is a Messages issue on unsupported hardware or an iMessage issue.
It is already working on MLPFv0.3.

My one thought is that Little Snitch is NOT compatable with MLPF and the resulting ML install. You should have at least 4.5 gb of stuff in a proper Install partition.Hey,
After a long time (about few weeks), trying unsuccessful installation MLPostFactor, I now know that I have tried all possible solutions, and I always get the same result.
I followed all your instructions, but I always get the install partition which is big approximately 1 GB when MLPostFactor Installer succeed, and it has that data:

I have:
MacBook 4,1 (320 GB HDD, 4GB RAM)
10.8.4 legit appstore app in Application folder (copied from ML compatible device, legally purchased)
Image
disk0s4 installer partition (20GB) - empty
disk0s5 ML partition (143 GB) - empty
disk0s2 Lion (active) partition (153 GB)
MLPostFactor V0,3 in Applications
The whole disk sheme looks like this:

Also, yesterday I formatted the whole disk and installed OSX Lion system.
I tried to change the place of the Install partition with disk0s4 or disk0s5. It did not help.
I killed absolutely all applications except LittleSnitch (also removed everything from startup apps; even created another user account)
There are only active these processes:

Disk partition scheme is GUID, and I have also repaired the permissions... (for everything I can):

Each time the installation succeed, I see that this is attached in a Disk Utility:

It is located in: Install OS X Mountain Lion> (show package contents)> Contents > SharedSupport
When I mount it I see another installer app. Also tried to run it (it says that I have unsupported computer), and then re-run MLPostFactor. Now, I opened the log of osx installer. Ive notieced this:
Jul 31 14:57:33 macbook installd[1143]: ./preinstall: cp: ./Dats/MLPostFactor.app: unable to copy extended attributes to /Volumes/Install/Applications/Hack: No such file or directory
(and lot of that )
Also, there is hidden image called BaseSystem.dmg, when I tried to mount it, and re-run MLPostFactor. The installation partition in now about 2 and half GB great. When tried to reboot I see EFI32, but after apple and spinning wheel I got: There was a problem installing Mac OS X. Try reinstalling.
Logical, because it is half of system.
So, it must be something with mounting InstallESD.dmg (inside the appstore app)because MLPostFactor only installs the drivers
Any idea?
Please go back and read 5 or 6 pages of the thread for an answer.Hi Guys,
Is it possible to use this program in Snow Leopard? Is there any more user friendly way of installing 10.8 on a Mac Pro 1,1 than the usual user guides on the internet which havent worked for me so far ...
Thanks for your help in advance
Just curious if MLPF 0.3 for 64 bit has been released yet. I'm waiting on the additional video card support for ATI 4870. The 32 bit version installs but will not boot.
thanks in advance
I could be very well wrong (and in fact I sincerely hope that I am) however as I have been actively involved with this forum for a while now, I am getting the impression that as far as MLPF goes, a 64 bit version is not likely (ever) and may in fact not be possible. Any unsupported Mac Pro folks that haven't taken the plunge thus far will simply have to "bite the bullet" and use a bootloader while following the "jabbawok" method to accomplish this.
As far as the remainder of folks with unsupported "inboard graphic" Macs, 32 bit MLPF is most likely the best your going to get. I have been searching long and hard and frankly I do not see anyone working on an inboard graphic 64 bit mac hack solution anywhere. I believe the consensus has unfortunately concluded that nothing is capable of loading the GMA950, X3100 and X1600 graphic kexts in strict 64 bit mode with any measure of stability whatsoever.
1 yesHi all!
I have a black Macbook 4,1 (GMA X3100, 4Gb RAM), running 10.7 and have some questions regarding MLPFv0.3:
- I am developing with Xcode and Eclipse (JEE). I think Eclipse shouldn't be a problem, but is Xcode working on MLPF?
- Is presenting on a LCD projector working (especially with keynote)?
- Does anybody use MLPF on a Macbook 4,1 and could tell me how it performs in comparison to Lion?
@HackerWayne: Really nice work!!
1 yes
2 yes
3 better performance in my opinion and yes im using it on the exact 2008 4,1 black macbook model
