I used v0.3 and 10.8.4 app and followed the exact steps. I did have to reboot from the Install partion, my FireWire drive, to apply MLpostFactor after successful installation followed by a self restart.

MLPF 0.3 64 bit?

Just curious if MLPF 0.3 for 64 bit has been released yet. I'm waiting on the additional video card support for ATI 4870. The 32 bit version installs but will not boot.

thanks in advance

I'm a bit puzzled here. I tried running MLP 0.3 on my iMac6,1 (late 2006) 10.5.8 (2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo), however when I try to run it, I get:

"You cannot use this version of the application MLPostFactor with this version of Mac OS X".

Anyone have any suggestions?

Great! Thank you. I was able to download.

I'm getting an error when I try to run MLPostFactor telling me "Install OS X Mountain Lion.app not found." It's in the Applications folder along with MLPostFactor so I'm not sure what the real problem is.

My setup in case it is the cause:
I have Lion installed on an external hard drive. This is a bare bones installation with no other apps installed. I have MLPostFactor and Install Mac OS X Mountain Lion in the Applications folder. I'm currently running off this startup disk.

UPDATE:
Seems as though this setup does not work. I ran it from my laptop's hard drive and it worked to create the install drive. I was able to install on the external drive and got an installation successful message but the computer will not boot. The instructions said that I should get a installation failed message. I'm going to try rebooting to the install drive and running MLPostFactor on the 10.8 drive as if the installation failed as expected. Any advice in the meantime would be appreciated.

I'm installing on a MacBook 2,1 (I think. It was the first C2D MacBook.).

After a little bit of trial and error it turns out that the Mountain Lion installer I had was not 10.8.4 as I thought. I downloaded it again and it worked. I did encounter something different than in the instructions. The installation said it was successful, but would not reboot. In fact, the computer would not restart even if you manually chose to while running on the install partition. I had to power off the laptop and boot from the install drive to continue with the instructions. I was able to boot from the ML drive after running MLPostFactor.

I'm trying things out and things seem to be working pretty well so far. The only issue so far is that Messages will not let me sign into iMessages. Anyone else encounter this? I haven't determined if this is a Messages issue on unsupported hardware or an iMessage issue.

It is already working on MLPFv0.3.

----------

Download link is now fixed. No more ads, surveys. 100% direct download links. Mega version will be up shortly.

Then there might be a bug in MLPostFactor. The only way i could get OpenGL to work was to use 'Kext Drop.app' to add the drivers from my 10.7.5 install. I also set the kernel to run in x86 mode using 'arch=i386'. Now working perfectly.

Other then running MLPostFactor again after the install are there any other steps that i might have missed?

Cheers

Half of installation

Hey,

After a long time (about few weeks), trying unsuccessful installation MLPostFactor, I now know that I have tried all possible solutions, and I always get the same result.
I followed all your instructions, but I always get the install partition which is big approximately 1 GB when MLPostFactor Installer succeed, and it has that data:
Uploaded with ImageShack.com

I have:
• MacBook 4,1 (320 GB HDD, 4GB RAM)
• 10.8.4 legit appstore app in Application folder (copied from ML compatible device, legally purchased)

• disk0s4 installer partition (20GB) - empty
• disk0s5 ML partition (143 GB) - empty
• disk0s2 Lion (active) partition (153 GB)
• MLPostFactor V0,3 in Applications

The whole disk sheme looks like this:

Uploaded with ImageShack.com

Also, yesterday I formatted the whole disk and installed OSX Lion system.
I tried to change the place of the Install partition with disk0s4 or disk0s5. It did not help.
I killed absolutely all applications except LittleSnitch (also removed everything from startup apps; even created another user account)…
There are only active these processes:

Uploaded with ImageShack.com

Disk partition scheme is GUID, and I have also repaired the permissions... (for everything I can):

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

Each time the installation “succeed”, I see that this is attached in a Disk Utility:
Uploaded with ImageShack.com

It is located in: Install OS X Mountain Lion> (show package contents)> Contents > SharedSupport
When I mount it I see another installer app. Also tried to run it (it says that I have unsupported computer), and then re-run MLPostFactor. Now, I opened the log of osx installer. I’ve notieced this:

Jul 31 14:57:33 macbook installd[1143]: ./preinstall: cp: ./Dats/MLPostFactor.app: unable to copy extended attributes to /Volumes/Install/Applications/Hack: No such file or directory
(and lot of that…)

Also, there is hidden image called BaseSystem.dmg, when I tried to mount it, and re-run MLPostFactor. The installation partition in now about 2 and half GB great. When tried to reboot I see EFI32, but after apple and spinning wheel I got: There was a problem installing “Mac OS X”. Try reinstalling.
Logical, because it is half of system.

So, it must be something with mounting InstallESD.dmg (inside the appstore app)because MLPostFactor only installs the drivers
Any idea?

My one thought is that Little Snitch is NOT compatable with MLPF and the resulting ML install. You should have at least 4.5 gb of stuff in a proper Install partition.

64 bit wise unfortunately I am thinking...

Just curious if MLPF 0.3 for 64 bit has been released yet. I'm waiting on the additional video card support for ATI 4870. The 32 bit version installs but will not boot.

I could be very well wrong (and in fact I sincerely hope that I am) however as I have been actively involved with this forum for a while now, I am getting the impression that as far as MLPF goes, a 64 bit version is not likely (ever) and may in fact not be possible. Any unsupported Mac Pro folks that haven't taken the plunge thus far will simply have to "bite the bullet" and use a bootloader while following the "jabbawok" method to accomplish this.

As far as the remainder of folks with unsupported "inboard graphic" Macs, 32 bit MLPF is most likely the best your going to get. I have been searching long and hard and frankly I do not see anyone working on an inboard graphic 64 bit mac hack solution anywhere. I believe the consensus has unfortunately concluded that nothing is capable of loading the GMA950, X3100 and X1600 graphic kexts in strict 64 bit mode with any measure of stability whatsoever.

It's about time people definitely abandon hopes of GMA950/X3100 64bit kexts. Apple brought out buggy 64bit kexts in Snow Leopard 10.6.2 Beta. Since then, there were 6 mainstream SL updates and 5 mainstream releases of Lion, all without 64bit support for Intel igps; there's also been 4 mainstream releases of ML (5th to come out soon) and 4 DP releases of Mavericks, all those being 64bit kernel only.

Had it been possible, those 64bit GMA kexts would have long been written by now (not talking about Apple here...). Anyway, there would now be very little point in doing so since newer Mac OS X versions call on OpenGL releases unsupported by GMA950 and X3100 (hence reverting to older version in MLPF).

Re: MLPF v0.3 64bit, I understand Wayne has clearly stated that it'll never be released.

Using Chameleon/Clover for OS X 10.8.4 & X1600 Mac Graphics

My recent googling indicates that both/either of the new updated Chameleon and/or Clover versions are now successfully loading the ATI X1600 inboard graphic kexts in applicable Macs through legacy booting efi and working 100%. Could someone with the "know how" please provide a detailed/comprehensive step by step guide ?

Hi all!

I have a black Macbook 4,1 (GMA X3100, 4Gb RAM), running 10.7 and have some questions regarding MLPFv0.3:

  1. I am developing with Xcode and Eclipse (JEE). I think Eclipse shouldn't be a problem, but is Xcode working on MLPF?
  2. Is presenting on a LCD projector working (especially with keynote)?
  3. Does anybody use MLPF on a Macbook 4,1 and could tell me how it performs in comparison to Lion?

@HackerWayne: Really nice work!! :)

Hi everybody,

it's my first post here. Could you please help me out installing a legit 10.8.4 ML copy? What has already been done:

- purchased 10.8.4 from Appstore (thanks to Parallels)
- downloaded MLPostFactor v0.3 32-Bit from OSXHackers website
- placed the files into 'Applications'
- set up 2 clean partitions (10GB named Install and 20GB ML)
- successfully installed MLPostFactor with files (728.4MB) as follows on the 'Install' drive. It took up to 5 minutes.

mpxu.png

f4fa.png

Then I tried to reboot my computer with 'option' key held down but no MLPF drive (EFI) came up. What I only get is Macintosh HD or Recovery HD.

0kgh.jpg

I've just tried with a Flash disk. MLPF installed but no EFI disk at startup.

My computer specs: MacBook 13" Early 2008, 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB RAM DDR2, GMA X3100, OS X Lion 10.7.5.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Kernel Panic on Boot with Apogee ONE

hoping someone else out there is having a similar issue ... had no problem following the guide and installing 10.8.4 using MLPostFacor 0.3 on my MacPro 1.1. However, if I boot the system with my Apogee ONE plugged in (my normal sound input / output device) I kernel panic as soon as I log in. I do not have this issue without the device plugged in. Any suggestions on how to resolve the issue?

thanks!

What's the latest news on running Mavericks on unsupported Macs, particularly the MacBook2,1 with the GMA950 GPU? Is Mavericks running at least as well on that Mac model, as is Mountain Lion?

And which method is currently the best choice for getting Mountain Lion to run on that Mac model: MLPostFactor, or Chameleon/Clover? Which method has the most compatibility with Facetime, etc., and the least number of problems?

Mavericks on "unsupported" older Macs (with GMA950 or X3100 for instance) has its own dedicated thread in 10.9 section: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1593194/

At present, there isn't yet a solution to get Mavericks with accelerated graphics on these machines. The issue is not in installing Mav itself (that's pretty easy and doable on most machines), it's getting full graphics support for legacy chips.

With ML, support for these old graphics chips was achieved primarily thanks to DP1 kernel which had retained 32bit mode. This allowed to use 32bit graphics kexts from Lion which, combined to previous versions of OpenGL, provided full graphics support under Mav. No such thing for Mav, it's 64bit kernels only and using even newer OpenGL versions. Since Apple never released proper 64bit kexts for those, you can draw your own conclusions...

I kept hitting the wall (kernel panic) with this message:
panic(cpu 0 caller 0x2c5457)

After a lot of searching, kext disable/enable, etc one day I tried the unthinkable. Just disabled IPv6 in network preferences (Automatic->Link-local Only). After changing that, my MB just started working back as usual for 4 days in a row which is quite long if you think that for at least 2 times a day I was having the kernel panic issue.

I don't know what caused the errors but to be honest I don't really care, after all it's too early for IPv6. For over 2 months now MLPostFactor is working flawlessly and that was the only problem I had. Thank God I didn't downgrade ;-)

I am on a mid-2007 Macbook + 10.8.4 + MLPostFactor 0.3 (32bit).

Works...half the time

Dear Wayne and ML4All,

You guys are great and thank you for fixing my little glitch from before.

But I encountered one small problem. After successfully installing 10.8.4 into a partition I went to install the patches and other fixes. So I rebooted my computer and clicked the MLPF menu and chose the (10.8.4) radio button.

But then trouble settled in. I've been siting in front of my computer for over 2 hours waiting for the "Patching Kernel" and progress bar to change/move. But it's been stuck there, endlessly.

Please help me out, and thanks for the great work in MLPF. :)
