Mac Mini Mid 2007 - No Boot Partition

Hi, I've been reading over 200 pages trying to find a solution for this. Ive seen 2 guys with the same problem but it looks like they either gave up or got it working ...

I read several times the instruction, Im running 10.7.5 I have the "Install OS Mountain Lion" inside "Applications"
I created 2 partitions - ML and Install
I downloaded MLPostFactorV0.3
When MLPostFactor finishes, I have only these Folders / Files inside Install Partition:

/Hack
/Library
mach_kernel
/System
/tmp
/usr

The install partition has 976.5 Mb Used

Different than the video I saw hackerwayne doing on his computer.

After it finishes, I boot up, holding OPTION key and all I get is :
Mac Mini HDD and Recovery HD

I've checked the Start Up Disk and the only Disk available is Mac Mini HDD

Ive already tried :

Deleting the partition and creating them again,
Format the disk 7 times to make sure all the data is gone,
Installing the whole system again from the recovery boot,
Downloading ML again ...

I dont know what else to do, what im suspecting is that MLPostFactor is not creating all the files needed to Install become a boot partition ...

Im a noob in this but I need an easy solution ...

Thanks a lot in advance to those whos willing to help this guy here ... :):)

But what could it be? I don't know? I did everything as described in the tutorial.

Thanks.

Have you got this working ?

----------

I tried everything i followed the tutorial but i cant' boot into install partition it doesn't show in the boot. I guess the MLPostfFactor isn't copying the files into the install partition. What can i do?

Have you got this working ?

Apologies if this has been covered in an earlier post but at over 70 pages long its hard to keep track. Someone is looking to buy my 7300gt I had used in my Mac Pro 1,1 running Lion. He's looking to use it in a later Mac Pro to run ML (don't know if its 2,1, 3,1 or later). Will MLPF allow him to do this. Cheers.

No, 2,1 maybe. 3,1 definitely no go. Different firmware. These graphic cards are not "forward compatible"

Dear Hackerwayne:

Where did you get your ML app from?

I got it from App Store (I had purchased it before) so I Downloaded to my iMac which is compatible ...
It showed up on my Applications folder, I copied to an external drive and copied straight to my Applications folder on my Mac Mini (I made sure it copied and not just put a shortcut/alias).

I have successfully installed 10.8.4 on my MacBook (Early 2008). Runs surprisingly well. Now I can squeeze a few more years out of this Mac. Hopefully I'll also be able the latest Xcode.

Rastafabi's 64 bit Mountain Lion installation Method

So glad to see this surface a bit over a week ago (page 127 of this thread). As I have monopolized the iMac with ATI 1600 graphics in our household long enough with my own attempt at a similar method using Chameleon (which Rastafabi notes does not work), I am wondering/hoping that there is someone who while following his basic guide, was also successful using Clover it getting this to work.

If indeed anyone has accomplished this, might you please lay out exactly the steps involved in a concise, orderly, fashion ? Through my own acquired knowledge I would love to give it a go with and while I probably could eventually get it working, I no longer possess complete liberty with the iMac as it is being used for schooling and homework so I would need to make fairly quick work of it and would hate to tie it up for more then an afternoon.

Thanks in advance for anyones help !

Hi there, it seems we got the same models of MacBook. Unfortunately I can't figure out, what I'm doing wrong to have 10.8.4 installed. I've tried it 10 times and I always get the same result.

- purchased 10.8.4 from Appstore (thanks to Parallels)
- downloaded MLPostFactor v0.3 32-Bit from OSXHackers website
- placed the files into 'Applications'
- set up 2 clean partitions (10GB named Install and 20GB ML)
- successfully installed MLPostFactor with files (728.4MB) as follows on the 'Install' drive. It took up to 5 minutes.

Then I tried to reboot my computer with 'option' key held down but no MLPF drive (EFI) came up. What I only get is Macintosh HD or Recovery HD.

My computer specs: MacBook 13" Early 2008, 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB RAM DDR2, GMA X3100, OS X Lion 10.7.5.

Hi there Wayne, thanks for your reply. I appreciate it. I got it legally, purchased from App Store. Any chance to fix the file? What I've noticed, the MLPFactor installation is complete in 5 min. (should be 15 min)

Have you simply tried to re-download the app?

Okay Guys, I got it. Thanks for your professional support. :) Wayne was right, file must have been broken. Re-downloaded Parallels, and copied (purchased) .app file once again. Everything went smooth. 10.8.4 works! :)

One more thing. I still got 10.7.5 Lion on My Macintosh HD? I do not need this system anymore, but I do have important data on it. What should I do? Do Time Machine backup, clean old 10.7.5 Lion and restore on newly installed 10.8.4 Mountain Lion?

Loving Mountain Lion. Right now I have it installed on a 10GB partition. This weekend, I think I'm gonna back up my stuff and do a clean install on the whole hard drive. The only issue I've had is with sleep. If the MacBook has been sitting for more than a few minutes or close the lid, it doesn't wake up and I have to hard reboot. Other than this, it's been flawless.

You can delete them safely, but it may be good to keep them around: if, for whatever reason, MLPF doesn't work out for you, it may be good to have a partition which is known to boot and work properly. Also, the Install partition may be good to keep around for if you need to reinstall MLPF for some reason.

Circle with line, help!

So I have a Macbook 2.1. Followed the instructions, used v 0.3 and fresh ML 10.8.4 download to install to an 8gb partition.

I then Booted from this partition and installed to an empty partition. I wasn't watching the setup the whole time, but it said 20 min left and came back hour later. All I saw on the screen was the grey setup background and a mouse cursor. No menus etc. Waited another 20 min, and then just finally shut off the macbook and turned it back on.

When it came back up, all I get is the circle with the line through it. I've tried holding option, putting in a bootable lion cd and holding C, I can't get it to do anything but show the circle and line.

I know in the instructions it said to run MLpostfactor from utilities after, but I never got a succeeded, failed, or had any menu options before was forced to power the laptop off.

Please help, any ideas etc. are appreciated

Is anyone else having google chrome issues? As soon as I open a new tab chrome crashes every time. It seems like it might be a ML issue and not a MLPostfactor issue but I figured I'd ask.

Hey @Hackerwayne

Just wondering, have any of the computers you tested had a CPU overheat?

My MacBook 18-inch X3100 Graphics overheated and got up to about 190˚

Any suggestions?
