My MacBook 18-inch X3100 Graphics overheated and got up to about 190˚
Congrats, that must be the hottest (if 190°C!) & largest MacBook ever! :D

If ° Farenheit, there's nothing to worry about, you're well within the operating range. Intel long incorporated safety features in their CPUs to shut them down when T° gets past 100+°C... Ever heard of Tjmax? Look it up on ark.intel for your MB's CPU.

This being said, I can't see how overheating could be due to MLPF. It's most likely a hardware issue or incorrect readings.

Works Great !
I install 10.8.4 on my old macbook pro 17" with ATI X1600 :)

First Impressions: Like a little faster than the lion, but it seems to me that the temperatures are a little higher. But so far everything works without objections :)

10.8.5

10.8.5 is now out. Will that work with MLPF 3 or will we have to wait for 3.1?

Edit: Looked back a few pages and found the answer. thank you Wayne.

Safari/Keychain issues

Anyone else notice that form fill from Keychain seems to no longer work in Safari?

Usernames get filled in, but passwords don't, and no matter what password I enter, even if the one already saved in my Keychain, I get a prompt saying it's different and asking me to save it. Next time, same deal.

I've repaired permissions and restarted with no change.

How do I resize the partition of the ML partition after the upgrade is done?

My ML partition is only 20 something GB - which is too small to really store anything. I guess I can just put everything on the other partition - but I'd prefer not to.

However, when I use disk utility to try to adjust the size of the partition - my ML partition is maxed at 20 GB and I can't make it any bigger.

Disk Utility will only allow you to modify the size of a GUID partition from its end. In other words, you cannot move the starting point of a partition and you resize it from the bottom. This means that you can only increase a partition if there is spare disk space underneath. If there is another partition right under, you're screwed.

Is anybody also having trouble with an AirPrint printer / scanner.
Sometimes my mac does not find the printer, sometimes I can print but not scan, etc.
This never happened on Lion.

Thanks.

Nice explanation. There is a cumbersome solution though: create a time machine back up into an external HDD. Boot into mac os 10.7 lion installer from a usb stick, format drive in order to get only a single partition and then use time machine to copy back the data into your drive. You will have a single partition with ML on it.

hackerwayne, I just wanted to let you know how grateful I am for this software. Thank you so much for taking the time to make this software, I'm sure it wasn't easy. Thanks to MLPostFactor, I am able to install Mountain Lion on my old MacBook and I can use Xcode 5. If it wasn't for your software, I don't how I would have continued to develop my app. I can't thank you enough. Looking forward to the next version so I can update to 10.8.5. Thanks you so much!!! :)

Problems with YouTube videos

2006 MacPro 1,1 - upgraded to dual X5355 Xeon (8-core), 32GB ram, Firmware flash to 2,1, 1GB GT120 clone graphics

I've been using MLPF 0.3 32-bit and ML 8.4 for some time with great success and little to no issues.

When I first played back YouTube videos, the video would not show at all, and I would only get choppy sound. I set hardware acceleration to OFF, and videos will play with sound ok now, but video is very choppy. Activity monitor shows all eight cores getting throttled to as high as <75% during playback as well. Even with playback set to very low resolution.

Will MLPF 0.3.1 provide any better video? Is this an issue with my model of card, or just with the Kexts, etc. running in the 32 bit graphics section of my machine?

When repairing Permissions I do get a GUID error on the ARDAgent, and a OpenGL repair as well. Video is really the ONLY thing I'm lacking to have an install that suits all of my needs. But, it's a given that this is the 32-bit area of the machine that is the hurdle to begin with. :) I do experience a bit of lagging and CPU meter spike when I have several tabs in Safari open as well, but not nearly as bad as when trying to play back a simple YouTube video clip.

Just a heads up, i did not abandon MLPF project at all, currently working on MaverickPostFactor, whatever we did on MVPF will backport for MLPF when released. MVPF hacked files will not be released until at least 10.9 GM is out.

- No ETA on when MVPF will be out and don't ask. It will be released when its ready.
- An minor update called MLPFv0.3.1 will be released to patch out remaining bugs. v0.3.1 is scheduled to be released on Tuesday, September 6th 2013. detailed changelogs will be up shortly before release.
- Post #1 will be updated alongside with the launch of v0.3.1.
- No major improvements over v0.3. v0.3.1 will add support for many previously unsupported graphics card. As usual, these kexts are untested and may cause stability issues, installing it on primary system is not recommended.
- Last but not least, clean install is always recommended.

Just for the heads up, iUTAMacinhack is not an alternative, its just a repacked version of my v0.2.

so can i upgrade to 10.8.5???and why i can't update to the new iTunes???

I believe 10.8.5 support is coming with MLPF 0.3-1, so be patient...
I've updated to iTunes 11.1 while running MLPF 0.3 on 10.8.4 myself (2006 MacBook Pro 2,2).

I'm a little disenchanted with my MLPostFactor installation. From what I've read, it seems MLPF uses a hacked kernel, and this means this isn't "really" Mt. Lion at all, but some kludgy hack that back-pedals Mt. Lion to something more akin to Lion. I think I should probably install Chameleon, and try to use the 10.8.5 Combo Updater to update my MLPF kludge 10.8.4 installation into a "real" Mac Mt. Lion 10.8.5 installation.
What would be the drawbacks if I have a Mt. Lion supported graphics card? I think there are only small risk, and big rewards, like having Software Update work again, and getting updates when Apple releases them.

The ONLY reason I can see for MLPF is for older laptops & iMacs that have graphics cards that aren't supported. I think my Mac Pro 1,1 with upgraded CPUs, firmware (2,1), and graphics card (HD5770) should run Mt. Lion perfectly in a "clean" state, only needing Chameleon to "allow" the boot process. This is true, isn't it? Isn't Chameleon a better solution for all unsupported Mac Pro users IF they have a Mt. Lion supported graphics card installed?
