This PDF business would be very alarming if true! By the way, does printing to a USB or WiFi printer work as expected? Thanks.

The PDF-Problem is already left behind and is back working. AFP on itself currently only works one way. I can connect to my AFP-Shares and can read, browse and copy whatever I want. But writing files always asks for Authorisation, then creates a 0byte file and fails. Deletion of the 0byte file (or any others) works.

Due to a bad headache I delayed my further "research" untill tomorrow.

AFP access

When I try connecting to a working afp on my network, it gives me an error to check the settings and IP address. They're correct. In console it gives me this entry:

Can't load /System/Library/Filesystems/AppleShare/asp_tcp.kext - no code for running kernel's architecture.

This is a clean install of 10.8.1 then combo upgraded per the directions to 10.8.3. I also tried this on an identical machine pre combo update to the same message.

Any ideas?

I'm still using a 98% 10.8.2, waiting for the 62 bit 10.8.3 installer to come out. My question tho was really about your RAM. Does it work with the full 12 back in now?

OK.

Well I had a problem with 2 x 2 Gb they have died on me
So I'm back with the 8 Gb and that does not give a problem.
But I believe the 8 Gb limit has been cleared.

Hat's off to you fantastic developers

Just took the plunge with your program for installing 10.8.3 on a Late 2006 iMac with the 7300GT Graphics Card, 2.16GHz Core 2 Duo, and 4GB Memory.

I installed fresh on an external harddrive. Used the Migration tool to Migrate all my programs from one drive to the other. Tested it out a while. Replaced internal drive with drive from external case.

Now my system runs "snappier" than before. No more spinning color wheel.

Just as responsive as can be. Never been this responsive for the two years I've had this machine.

The funny thing is that apple restricted an os from running on older hardware when it could have been a huge success there are still lots of owners of those machines. People are saying it is FASTER!

That's what I like to hear. I'm going up to 10 soon.

It still limits at 8GB. We haven't touched Mach_Kernel since... February 2012?

AFP now works both way.. Fix coming in V0.3 (32-bit)

Umm.. No, they wanna "force" these users to buy new Macs. Or.. Lazy to rewrite 64-bit kexts for them. (well, the use of "64-bit kernel only" was a complete BS anyway lol!)

----------

Just to double-check it's telling the truth, if you open System Monitor and find kernel_task is the 'kind' Intel or Intel (64 bit)?ImageImageImageImage

Intel

OK, here's what I think are the relevant changes. Running 10.8.2 BTW. A couple of the DP1 files may just not have changed between DP1>10.8.2 but I don't have the orig 10.8.2 files to compare against since they were overwritten. Also mucked around with swapping various kerberos files and swapped boot.efi, but doubt they were a problem, it always seemed to be OK in console other than no ability to mount AFP. Hope I got these right :)

Code:
acfs.kext > kext from 10.7.5
acfsctl.kext > kext from 10.7.5
ALF.kext > kext from 10.7.5
smbfs.kext > kext from 10.7.5
/System/Library/Filesystems/AppleShare/asp_tcp.kext/Contents/MacOS/asp_tcp > just the binary from DP1
/System/Library/Filesystems/AppleShare/afpfs.kext/Contents/MacOS/afpfs > just the binary from 10.7.5
System/Library/Filesystems/NetFSPlugins/afp.bundle/Contents/MacOS/afp > just the binary from DP1
/System/Library/Frameworks/AppleShareClientCore.framework/Versions/A/AppleShareClientCore > just the binary from DP1
/System/Library/Frameworks/NetFS.framework/Versions/A/NetFS > just the binary from DP1
/System/Library/CoreServices/NetAuthAgent.app > DP1 version
/System/Library/CoreServices/AppleFileServer.app/Contents/MacOS/AppleFileServer > just the binary from DP1

now EVERYTHING working!

ps-haven't tried SMB nor was that my focus, so likely a change to smb binary in NetFSPlugins would still be needed to connect to Windows PC

Sadly I dont have DP1 of ML...

Besides torrenting DP1 where can I get these said files?

I think all DP1 kexts are in MLforAll's original hack.

there are no standard DP1 kexts used to fix AFP (i.e. kext files from DP1's S/L/E folder). It's Frameworks, CoreServices and FileSystems, some from DP1 and some from 10.7.5 along with a couple 10.7.5 kexts. Again, it will be released as part of standard 32bit installer soon, so best to wait if you can.

I'm going to install 10.8 on my outdated MBP.

I have a late 2006 MBP A1211. It has an ATI X1600 (so I'll be using the 32 bit installer).

I'm taking out the superdrive and using a hard drive caddy. Ill be moving my existing 500GB hard drive into the caddy. Ill install an SSD in the Hard drive slot in the MBP.

Question is, do I have to have all three partitions on the SSD or can I have the ML and the Install partitions on the Hard Drive and keep one partition: Macintosh HD on the SSD? Also, any other tips or tricks I should be aware of? Should I jump on right now with V0.2.2 or wait for V0.3?

Thanks, keep up the good work!

You should be able to use a partition on any bootable volume. I'm not aware of any step that requires them to be on the same spindle. I've got a MacBookPro2,2 and 0.2.2 is fantastic for my needs. There are the few defects people have been reporting and Wayne has said are fixed in 0.3, but if you can live without the fixes, go ahead and give it a shot!

My motivation for upgrading was for iCloud features: iMessage, iCloud Tabs, and Notes. I could never justify $1800 for a new laptop just so I can have those trivial features.

Awesome! From my understanding the shortcomings seem to AFP and other network situations that I barely use.

Is it hard to upgrade from v2.2 to v3.0? In the interim, Ill retain Lion on the 500GB just in case the SSD w/mountain lion decides to act funky.

Like you, I'm actually interested in iMessages so I can message all my friends on their idevices.

V0.3 will support direct update from V0.2.2 & V0.1. As always, clean install is always recommended.

Thank you sir! Ill definitely will have a clean install. I was going to wait for V0.3, but I think I won't need to. (I won't bug you by asking you about the ETA for v0.3)

Keep up the great work!
