Fix for SMB

Apparently, the release of V0.3 is not about to happen right away. There must obviously have been found several bugs that need to be resolved before release too the public. Sadly.

But I and probably others could really use a fix for SMB, so if there is anyone who has gotten it to work, could post a small guide to the necessary changes to be done in ML, it would be superb. ;)

AFP is already running smoothly, so just missing SMB.

Thanks in advance.

I had a little bit of trouble understanding what "Apply" meant until someone explained it to me.
After you select MLPF from the utilities menu you click "Continue" twice(I think) until you can select 10.8.2 or 10.8.3 and the partition where you installed ML.
After you make your choices and click "Continue" again installation will complete.
Then you quit the installer and select restart, where you will hopefully boot into ML.
If you have already done this and it still doesn't work, maybe someone else can help.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I did all that. Selected the 10.8.0-10.8.2, as it seems you're supposed to start with that and then run it a second time with a combo updater.

I finally did a reset (power button), same hang up, so 3rd time I held option, to select a boot volume. As what happened in the install (the Install volume was labeled EFI boot), now I have 2 volumes labeled EFI Boot, my Lion partition and the recovery partition.(edit, now one says ML) I can at least boot into the Lion partition as usual.

NEVER MIND JUST READ ABOVE POSTS, I AM INDEED RETARDED.

Hi, I tried using this installer but it won't recognise that ML is in the applications folder (see attached).

I'm running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 on an early 2008 macbook 4,1.

Any ideas?

The minimum requirements are Lion 10.7.5.

Well.. You are really retarded then. 10.7.5 is stated as the minimum requirements.
Update: Slight delay for MLPF 0.3 as there are reported issues about SMB (causes KP) that needs to be resolved

Any chance of getting a beta, and providing a known issues list so people aware of the issues? For me I'm unlikely to use SMB, but if Airdrop works, thats awesome.

I realize you want to minimize hassle from people who don't understand or read a known issue list, but would be great for those of us who do.

Also, perhaps people might be able to provide additional insight into the problem or solution if a beta/early release is made available (Maybe you're already getting this from existing beta testers, I don't know?)

I'm running an upgraded Mac Mini 2,1 which a C2D 2.0GHz, 4GB of memory (3GB addressable), a 60GB OCZ SSD, and a genuine Apple Airport Extreme card AR5BXB112, usually connecting to my 5GHz Wireless provided by a Time Capsule.

I'd be more than happy to be a beta tester (Feel free to PM me), but don't know how to apply, and really support your efforts (Included having made a donation via paypal in the past, while small, hopefully helpful!)

Thanks - I've found ML to be running really well on my Mac Mini for some time now.

Edit: Incredibly minor issue I found, btw, bluetooth is always turned on after a reboot, even if it was disabled prior to reboot - perhaps a permissions thing?

Found this- to disable Bluetooth (until you run the opposite command), C/P into terminal this;

# launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.blued.plist

And the restore code is;

# launchctl load -wF /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.blued.plist

Good luck!

This may solve your problem:

Just a correction ... After replacing NetFS binaray with DP1, some of my programs no longer start. According to the report the error was in the architecture of NetFS. I used instead the binary from 10.7.5 and now all programs start again, and AFP still works. :D

success

Just a quick update. I reformatted the 2 new partitions to start over. A few things I did differently this time were 1) pick correct OS ver and 2) be patient at the first Install

Also, here are some posts I found helpful:

•Get the application by downloading it to a compatible computer
•Transfer that installation to from their Applications folder to the same folder on the incompatible computer
•Run MLPostFactor
•Aim it at your install disk (this took >30min for me)
•Once complete, reboot using the 'install' disk (hold option key to chose that disk) - This may appear as 'EFI' or something
•Once the installation program runs, install ML on the disk you wish the ML install to go on
•Once the install has failed go straight to utilities at the top without restarting or exiting
•Run MLPostFactor
•Aim it at the ML disk you just installed ML on.
•Go to the apple top left, go to 'start up disk' and chose the new disk as the one you wish to start up on.

And...

If it's 10.8 2 it's 4.37 gb, if it's 10.8 3 it's 4.46 gb

We'll see how it does when I take it to work tomorrow and hook it up to bluetooth keyboard/mouse and external monitor. But so far, everything is working great.

One thing I thought was interesting was I can still access apps from the Lion partition. I opened the Mac App Store to re-install them, but they were already listed as installed. Spotlight can find them, and most of them can be opened, though they are not in the applications folder or appear in Launchpad. Probably best they be all in the same partition, yes?

Also, can I plug in the old Time Machine drive I had for Lion?

Thanks for all your help. Coffee's on it's way.

10.8.4

Just installed OSXUpdCombo10.8.4_12E52Seed.pkg and got it working.
It has some problems, like no sound and the System Preferences panel quits when you try to select a screen saver.
Not sure if I'll spend much time with this one.

10.8.4 12E52 isn't tested yet. No sounds would be a pretty easy fix. AppleHDA.kext from 10.7. And its safe to bet OpenGL is patched by Apple again.

So could you please explain your steps to get AFP running? My AFP currently only allows read access to the MLPostFactorED Mac.

Thank you!

How did you do your update?
I installed the update directly over 10.8.3 and went back and replaced some files(Boot efi, PlatformSupport.plist, Standalone) with 10.8.3 versions.
My Wi-Fi seems to be working. Will keep testing as time allows.

You must have replaced also mach_kernel because original is only 64bit...
Can you post or pm me and send me your kextstat???
I updated on 10.8.3 then booted up with install usb disk and reapplied Mlpost factor to hdd and rebooted.
the only damn thing not working is wifi....
Forgot to mention that wifi works 10.8.4 64 bit

For those of you with the Intel GMA X3100. Does your Macbook have better performance under Mountain Lion or Lion 10.7.5?

I am afraid that I can't give you much help. I didn't copy mach.kernal.
I just reinstalled completely using your method. So far most things work including Wi-Fi, Ethernet doesn't seem to.
My previous install was so buggy that I couldn't stand it.

Registered here just so I could say that as a Mac Pro 1.1 (HD 5880) owner I thank you for what you're doing. While I am eager to try and do this right now, it seems that the release of MLPostFactor 0.3 and OSX 10.8.4 are imminent.

How close is MLPostFactor 0.3 Wayne?

Does anyone know when 10.8.4 is expected to be out?

Developer Previews of 10.8.4 can be found on some of the less reputable Web sites. I just installed the most current one and so far it works pretty well.

Like ML? It IS ML! Visually it loads identically to as if it were a supported machine.

Ok thanks for clearing that up hearnia, I just wanted to check as with other methods it uses a boot loader like chameleon, which is visually less pleasing while booting.
