It worked, thanks. I have attached a second screenshot. I did get another error (a different one than the first), so it made me reboot. But when I ran the script again after the reboot, it worked perfectly.

Thanks.

We were a few testing it for days before it launches, i got no error in less than an a week. So glad it worked, it has been a 3 months job to come to this.

Sorry if asked and answered, but I did a thread search and no results came up.

So: does Handoff work over ad-hoc (also called Direct) Wifi? Or is it only with full-fledged wifi networks?

I'd be willing to Try this on my 27" iMac (2011).

I found the card on eBay, but I read in this thread I need some sort of adaptor(?), but couldn't find any more info on what kind of thing it is ;)

Also this machine has two cards (separate BT and wifi). If I unhook the BT, install the new card I can use both its wifi and BT, correct?

Awesome work by the way.. Love it :)

I think this adapter could do it, but I'm not shure:

http://www.osxwifi.com/adapters/apple-wifi-bluetooth-4-0-card-to-minipcie-adapter-for-macpro-2008

But how do I connect the BT antenna to the new wifi/BT card? Are there any extensions?

OP Table not completely accurate for MacBook Pro models

The OP says (fantastic work, by the way) in the table:
MacbookPros: Mid 2009-Late 2011 (excludes 17" Models except Mid 2010 17") - Requires new bluetooth/Wifi card and Modified Kext.

...

MacBook Pro/Mac Minis: Apple Broadcom BCM94331PCIEBT4CAX Gives BT4.0LE

There is no available BT/WiFi card with BT4.0LE for some of these models.

For the 13" unibody MacBookPros, the mid-2009 and mid-2010 models have the card in the hinge, and will not work with the BCM94331PCIEBT4CAX.

For the 15" unibody MacBookPros, the 2009 models also have the card in the hinge. I suspect this is true for the 17" as well.

However, for the 15" mid-2010 the card can be replaced with the BCM94331PCIEBT4CAX. But this is not true for the 17" as the OP already indicates.

So 2009 or older MacBook Pros: no card available.
For mid-2010: use the BCM94331PCIEBT4CAX for the 15", no card available for 13" or 17".
For early or late 2011: use the BCM94331PCIEBT4CAX in any model MacBook Pro, 13", 15", or 17".

This is based on looking at the iFixIt repair instructions for the above models, which are fairly complete for the different 13" and 15" models, not as complete for 17".

Thank you, I was looking into iFix its teardowns for these and then I got reports from people telling me otherwise so it became unclear with the Macbook Pros.

Still no luck for me :(

MacBook Air 13" Mid-2011 (MacbookAir4,2) (base one, with an upgrade from the original SSD to a Transcend JetDrive 500 240GB) (My system is in french)

- I tried the manual steps first of all but forgot to backup the original Kexts and screwed up the edit part of the kext, so I formatted it with the Yosemite installer on USB stick with DiskMaker X.
- I tried again the manual steps, re-read 2-3 time each steps to be sure I wasn't doing something wrong, with every permissions repair, dev mode, deleting old kexts from the system folder, every reboots, everything. Everything worked fine but no option to check for enabling Handoff in System Preference -- General
- After that, I followed the steps to revert to original kexts :
1 sudo nvram boot-args="kext-dev-mode=1"
2 reboot
3 delete old kexts in /System/Library/Extensions/
4 sudo kextcache -system-prelinked-kernel
5 sudo kextcache -system-caches
6 repair permissions
7 reboot
8 used kext drop for the backed up ones
9 sudo kextcache -system-prelinked-kernel
10 sudo kextcache -system-caches
11 repair permissions
12 reboot
- I tried the Continuity Activation Tool (the fixed version), everything was OK on the checklist of the tool, everything was patched fine. I followed all the steps at the end of the tool but still doesn't have the option to check in System Preferences, General.

Does someone have a clue about this?

- Handoff works over Bluetooth 4.0, not Wi-Fi. :)
But in the first post, under Troubleshooting, it says:
4:Make sure they are on the same wifi network and bluetooth is on on all devices.
Additionally, Apple's official page says:
Now you can make and receive phone calls on [supported] devices as long as your iPhone running iOS 8 is on the same Wi-Fi network.
It doesn't specify which connection is necessary for receiving texts on a Mac.

All I'm aiming for is the ability to make/receive calls from my Mac, and send/receive texts.

Those features are available to anyone with wifi. Just make sure FaceTime and iMessage are logged into your iCloud account. No extra cards/kext edits needed.

Continuity uses Wifi, Handoff uses BT. Its sort of assumed that they are the same but they are not.

Sorry for posting this , I couldn't find it on the threads.

My macbook pro early 2011 but it's LMP version is 0x4. I'm wondering how could I possibly use handoff feature?
Changing the built in card ? or a simple bluetooth dongle would to the job ? Or I should totally forget it ?

With Macbook pros its not just the year but size. Read the OP to see if yours is eligible. if it is then change the built in card, while people are working hard to make a bluetooth card out of the built in ones that work its a slow tedious process.

It's a Macbook pro 15" early 2011. As far as I understood I should change the card with the model you specified (BCM94331PCIEBT4CAX) first then do the activation?
And also if I could have the card, is it easy to replace it ?

Yes - what I'm passing along is only as accurate as what I'm finding on iFixit. I have a few of these machines, not all of them.

Here's what I'm seeing with the MacBook Air on iFixit:

The '08 and '09 models have a very different card from the late-2010 models and later. So, yes, you should be able to replace the late-2010 MacBook Air card, but I doubt that there is a BT4.0LE replacement card available for for the 2008-2009 models.

Continuity Activation Tool 1.0.1

A quick note to inform you that I published an updated version of the Continuity Activation Tool with stability/reliability improvements.

Link

v.1.0.1 - Changes
  • Fixed a boot arguments overwriting bug, that could lead to a system failure specific cases
  • Fixed a kext-dev-mode bug that prevented the OS to disable its drivers protection
  • Fixed the strings utility presence check, to run as well from if the script is run from the command line
  • Added a disk reparation step at the start of the patching procedure, lowering failure risks on disks with permission issues
  • Added a verification that sudo is still active before patching

Handoff works off of bluetooth 4.0 so that means even if you're not on a wifi network you can still use handoff (i.e. starting a project in iOS then finishing it on the Mac)

Have you tried to edit the kexts before running this tool?
And does your new card show up under system report?

No. Thought the tool did all that for you. Can you copy/paste the instruction I need before I run the tool? Thanks so much!

There isnt anything you have to do before I was just making sure you hadn't tried before because that causes conflicts.

Does your new card show up in system report under bluetooth?
