I really hope this isn’t true. I haven’t used Safari 6 yet. I found this image on Appleinsider which seems to show them.

Hmm, this is what I get.

Does seem like a weird omission will have to look at my prefs.

Edit: trashed my Safari .plist. Google suggestions work now.

This is exactly the reason why I haven't made the switch yet. Chrome adds .com if I hit Ctrl-Enter. Safari treats the keystroke as a simple Enter.

I like the way Safari does this. The top hit function just seems to guess when I need .com and adds it! There are search suggestions - I don't know why the poster above can't see them. They are in the second section of the pulldown list after the Top-Hit.

The only advantage Chrome still has is its wide range of extensions. But sadly the Mac version of Chrome has always been second rate, uglier than its windows counterpart and can't even display PDFs correctly, so Safari wins for me!

Agreed. I've tried to use Firefox and Chrome but overall Safari has been my choice of browser even before Safari 6. It might have some shortcomings, but it has the perfect balance.

Yes, it did.

The "omnibar" was the main issue I had previously, and the swipe gestures in Safari are just too cool to toss away.

I like Chromes design, and the way it does tabs better. But thats not enough to win me over the gestures now. Plus I am not a fan of Google plan to dominate everything on the internet either. Chrome is still in my dock , but it may loose its spot soon.

I've been using Safari since I went to OS X. However, this is a feature I REALLY would love.

As for plugins, all I need are adblock, click2flash, and the social block ones (FB/Twitter/Google+). All of which Safari has. Any other plugin is meh.

Safari has been my Mac browser of choice since I first upgraded to OS X Panther. Before that I grudgingly used IE and Netscape/Mozilla.

For Windows I was a Firefox user for years even as it got more slow and bloated, then Chrome came along and I switched to that.

Now I use both Safari and Chrome, about an 80/20 split on Mac and vice versa on Windows.

Safari 5 seemed like a memory hog, much like FF when I quit using it. So far Safari 6 feels quicker and isn't eating up 2+GB of memory by leaving half a dozen tabs open for a day. I'll have to use it for a few months and hope it stays this way. I really am glad to see a that it has Chrome's omnibar, which is so wonderfully useful.

the only thing that kept me using safari for as long as I did was the activity window. I stopped using it during the mass exodus a few months ago when safari started going nuts with html5 youtube. Theyve removed the activity window completely now and made all tabs change size, something that has always driven me nuts (not having moving stimuli is like rule #1 in UI design). So no it has not won me over.

Switch between Safari six and Sleipnir Mac browser

I have been switching between Safari 6 and Sleipnir Mac browser although they're both memory hogs , they have their own individual advantages that I like.

Safari 6 has the new tab view, which is similar to Sleipnir's tab view but without the tab groupings I guess the only issue I have with Sleipnir is that the new version has issues with two finger and three finger gestures to close and switch tabs(They don't work), I think it's a bug they need to work on

I will probably switch back to Safari at some point because I'm noticing I am switching back and forth between keyboard shortcuts and using the mouse to close tabs on Sleipnir, Which of course interrupts my workflow and wastes time

I've always used Safari since it came out, before that I was using IE. Now I'm not trolling, but can someone willing to do a screen shot of Chrome? I've never seen it and I will not install it, because I don't think Google needs more then my searches, I even block Google ads with Little Snitch. I know I am a strange one.

As for Safari 6 I can't wait, from what people have told me that it's really fast. I saw the screen shot that was posted, and I liked what I saw. :)

Thanks for the screen post. :)

I personally really like safari 6, yet I use Firefox because it's the only browser that scrolls correctly when using a Wacom tablet.

I used to use Safari for everything, I really like it's rendering etc, however I have moved to Chrome. The bookmark/syncing between OSX/Windows/iOS devices it WAY more handy than my rendering preference when using OSX.

The main reason I like Chrome is the "searchable" url bar as well as the ability to command1,2,3,4 etc to switch tabs.

I don't know if this is possible to change in Safari. Maybe. Either way, I've grown so used to using these that I consistently "go to bookmarks" when using Safari which quickly stops me from enjoying it :( I'll have to use it a loong time before I get over that, and other than flash, I find Chrome suits my needs perfectly fine.

Apple, how about giving us the ability to sort bookmarks alphabetically. IE has had this for a million years!

they will offer it as a feature in os x sea lion in a year or so...

Seriously their dropping development on safari, the memory hog it became, the memory leaks and the inattention to all sorts of little details has cause me to drop it altogether. They should have known better when they were shifting these "small and nimble teams" they are so proud of to ios instead...

There's no excuse for the richest company in the world, or close, to be at this level of performance. Google got a build out in couple of days for retina support for their own mac when they couldn't finalize pages and keynote in time for it, let alone the whole os.

These really, are worse than piss poor efforts for their wealth.

Good riddance to safari, hello opera (big props here guys, give it a go), chrome and firefox.

Apple should be effing developing if they want these 50% margins, not charging another $20 to get a decent build of their browser out, from an installed user base that if only half installs their os, that will mean a revenue of 500 million.... I am working my *** off everyday to make a living, I am not prepared to pay a 50% tax if they are not consistently earning it via their efforts.

I've been using Safari since I got my MBP in 2010. I was considering switching to Chrome for a while, mostly because all my friends love it and it has so many great extensions, but ultimately I was too used to the way Safari looked that Chrome just felt strange. Glad I didn't switch, mostly because Google is scaring the crap out of me with all the insane tracking going on with their services.

What really sealed the deal with me was Reading List. I read a lot of online content, and sometimes when I'm just scrolling around Tumblr I like to save a particular article for later. I'm really excited for offline Reading List. I'm also glad I use Safari since it syncs up really well with my iPhone and iPad.

I'm looking forward to see how iOS 6 and Safari 6 work together.

Does Safari 6 fix this? It's the worst thing about Safari in my opinion.

I LOVE safari when it comes to the multitouch gestures but the memory leaks are completely unacceptable!

I would LOVE to be able to use Safari, however, I can't STAND it's memory management. Barely browsing on the internet, maybe with only like 3 or 4 tabs open will take up ALL the RAM on my 2010 13in MBPro, and I think that's unacceptable considering it makes everything else run really choppy. (I'm on a clean Mountain Lion install btw)

I was using Firefox up until a week ago, but now I'm on Chrome, and loving it. The way it manages memory is AWESOME, and it's speed and extensions are pretty damn amazing.

Chrome is here to stay for me.

What would apple's motivation be to fix the memory leaks, the horrid memory leaks? They are going to obsolete more macs and sell more if users find their soldered ram not enough... That's apple for you these days. The richest company in the word, or close, can't make a decent browser app...

I've always been a loyal Safari fan ever since Apple introduced it. Now with Safari 6, I'm more than happy. I've tried the other browsers out there and it just doesn't feel as integrated and seamless as with Safari.

I used to use Firefox exclusively as I liked add ons like Adblock and NoScript. But those are all available for Safari now, and I prefer that browser. As others have said, Firefox became to bloated.

I installed Chrome and tried it, but ultimately, I just don't trust Google, so I removed it. I don't even use their search engine anymore. Do you guys think about Google and how they are keeping track of everything you search on? Or does it not bother you? If I can't trust them for my searches or even to stay out of my wifi as they drive by my house, I really can't trust their browser.

I'm afraid Chrome is winning me over from Safari. Still no ability to sort bookmarks? Really?

In terms of simplicity and elegant design, Chrome is more Mac-like than Safari.

I went from Chrome to Safari and couldn't be happier. Safari 6 is significantly faster than Chrome and the multitouch gestures sealed the deal. Especially the iOS-like double tap to zoom particular articles or sections of a web page.
