Whats wrong with the "all-in-one" functionality ?

Personally, its better than the separate section for searching on the far right.

I always was constantly typing search queries into the address bar.....Now I can :)

As already noted, you can't just type the name of the place and have the dot com auto entered anymore if it's not in cache. You no longer have a list of your Google searches. You can no longer clear out only your Google searches. Seems like a loss of functionality to me.

What exactly is the benefit? To prevent everyone from those rare occasions when they might type in the wrong place?

I've used Firefox for years and my daughter kept urging me to try another browser because FF was always torturously slow. Never was a fan of Safari, didn't seem as intuitive to me so I switched to Chrome just a few months ago. However, with Safari 6 I am SOLD! It's the fastest browser I've used and having 10 tabs open at once doesn't seem to slow it down a bit. Thank goodness! I've been waiting for something like this for ages.

Now I just have to install it on my Windows machine... when 6.0 for Win is released and it's completely bye bye Firefox.

I like that the cursor is automatically in the search/url field when I open a new tab. I can just hit cmd+t and start typing. 90% of the time I want to search rather than type in a URL directly so it's and improvement for me.

----------

The new Safari is fantastic, although I've been using Safari as my default since Lion because of smart zoom.

Chrome still has the advantage of much smoother JavaScript animations, vastly better choice of browser extensions, and the ability to close tabs with the middle mouse button. Boy, I wish I could do that in Safari without installing Glims. I also keep Firefox around for testing and Firebug. Chrome and Safari have good developer tools but they still aren't quite at the Firebug level yet.

I've been using Chrome exclusively, but Safari 6 on ML won me over. It's so fast and smooth. I do miss the integration between Chrome and my Android phone, but hey, can't have it all.

Nope, still using Chrome for a couple of reasons: the extensions, and syncing with Chrome for Android. I use multiple extensions that aren't offered by Safari (such as Reddit Enhancement Suite and GameWeasel), and there is no way I'm going to give them up. I also use two Android devices (my phone and a Nexus 7), and having Chrome sync everything between all of my devices is something that I would absolutely refuse to give up.

Still with Chrome. I haven't really given Safari 6 a true use to test though. The super large tabs are a turn off for me so far.

Until I can get my Safari setup as good as Chrome, I'm sticking with what's working.

I have Ad Block, a screenshot extension, and most importantly to me: an extension that automatically every Youtube video for me in 1080p HD.

Not too well versed with Safari and extensions, if anyone can help me replicate my current setup, I'd be willing to really try it out.

For screenshots, use Awesome Screenshot.

For YouTube, YouTube5 works and let's you specify a resolution.

I don't use ad blockers but I know they're out there for Safari.

Good to know Awesome Screenshot is also available for Safari. But about Youtube5 if I remember correctly it changes the look and feel of the default Youtube video. Not sure if I can describe this but it the interface just looks different (like fullscreen buttons, etc.)

My Chrome extension just defaults the resolution to 1080p without touching the interface.

I'm picky. Lol. But thanks for the suggestions!

I tried to switch to Safari 6, but after 2 days, I just couldn't take it and had to switch back to Chrome.

Although Safari 6 renders pages lightning quick, the UI is much less streamlined and therefore slower to use than Chrome. It blows my mind that Safari doesn't have the ability to pin tabs, show the favicon, or resize intelligently based on the number of tabs open.

Also, Chrome manages space much better. There is no real reason why Safari should show you the title of the webpage at the top of the browser as well as on the tab. It is duplication that takes up precious space.

Another thing that bothers me about Safari is how dark the silver color of the UI is. You'll notice that Chrome's silver is more consistent with the default color most Mac Apps (and the default OS X menubar) use.

For me, Chrome is the ultimate in minimalist browsing. Your browser should simply get out of the way and put the webpage front and center. I feel Chrome does a better job of that.

Yeah, true, YouTube5 does replace the interface. Do you use the Flash version of YouTube or HTML5?

I'm not sure. I just installed all of the extensions on S6 and Youtube5 is being a little finicky. One of my videos is opening up with regular player and no default quality but most others are opening with the extension interface and quality.

It is worth nothing that with Youtube5 I can't click space bar to pause/play the video.

And the Screenshot extension isn't taking the shots.

Maybe because Safari 6 is so new that these are not optimized yet?

YouTube5 is working okay for me, but Awesome Screenshot isn't. Hopefully it'll be updated soon.

I just got my first Mac and have just been using Safari. I don't feel the need to even try another browser. I used Chrome on all my Windows computers.

Definitely not. Not enough support for plugins. All the best development extensions are for Firefox/chrome. Heck, all the best of any useful extension is on other browser platforms. Frankly I have no idea why apple even bothers with safari.

This might be user error, but I dislike the fact that it keeps resetting my Bookmarks. I prefer the old tabs layout (where they were all one size, instead of changing depending on the amount of tabs).

No other complaints though; the search function is much more accurate to my tastes, which is awesome.

Stupid ultra wide tabs, no middle click to close tab, no in browser RSS, empty cache moved to develop menu.

Safari 6 is making want to change to another browser, it not won me over it's pushing me away.

In fact if it was not so much of a hassle, I dump the whole Mountain Lion upgrade and go back to Snow Leopard, if only Apple would release a "Go Back To Previous OS" app, I buy it in a heart beat.

Been toying around with it a bit the past few days. RAM usage is considerably higher than FF Aurora, and I'm still not totally digging how tabs get stretched out for how ever many you have open. But we'll see...

The 'tab streaching" stuff Firefox 13 and above does too

Its kind of normal I reckon now Safari has it..... as what else are you gonna do with that space if u have two tabs open?

I dunno weather this was possible with other browsers, but now in Safari you don't need to specifity site: if you only want to seach within a particular domain

Its good nether the less.

Might have to give Safari a go after reading this.

My only issue is that when I'm browsing a news site or forum I 'open page in new tab' a lot. And with Chrome I've used Bettertouchtool to assign the middle mouse click to this. It doesn't seem to work in Safari.

Anyone got a solution?

Assign it to 'CMD-Click'

For the longest time it wasn't working for me with but then I realized that BTT didn't support three finger tap if 'three finger drag' was enabled in the trackpad settings.

Yes, but...

I've been a long-time Firefox/Iceweasel user, but was planning to give Safari a good try after installing Mountain Lion. Much to my surprise, Safari crashed each and every time I opened it -- that "proxy bug", wouldn't you know. After I got that sorted out, and after I got rid of that horrible Reading List thing, I must say that Safari is a pretty decent browser. I'm going to stick with it, at least for a while.:)

I made a switch to Mail from Thunderbird/Icedove at the same time, that is taking a bit longer to get used to... so many features, half of which I don't even miss or know about, is starting to become counter-productive in my view.:D
