Depends. I think $29 is a relatively minor cost. They are also offering this to everyone regardless of if your battery is bad or not. In my eyes, they are absorbing their cost for the mistake they made. I guess I don't get why people are still up in arms about it. Take your battery and move on. Problem solved.
Problem? There was never a problem. Only some cry babies wanting attention.

Apple apologized and is offering a fix for the issue. What else do you want them to do?
That's not a fix, it's a band-aid.

I'm actually more interested in seeing how Apple will address this in future iOS updates and permanent battery replacement policies. The iPhone 8 and X and iPads may not be affected right now but what about future iOS versions? I'm interested in what Apple's plans are for long term.

Why should we cover the cost for the mistake they made? Can you give me a justification?

I was in an Apple Store two nights ago and again today, there are no lines of people getting replacements, no one cares about a few milliseconds to open an app. This thing will be forgotten faster than Antennagate.

Oh don't worry. This will be remembered. You guys said something when Antennagate. Heck, I still remember bendgate

Throttling a processor to 600Mhz... This is iPhone 3GS speed.

Congratulations, your iPhone 6 or 6S just became iPhone 3GS.

Because they can't go through and test every single iPhone and see if it qualifies for a replacement. Instead, in a show of good faith, they are offering it to everyone for the cost of a meal at a restaurant.

Remembered? This is a current event. EVERY iPhone in existence(with certain iOS and after) is throttled or will be throttled.

Oh... Term and condition again. Didn't we went through this again. ToC is not law. Any contract demmed not fair to consumer could be overthrown.

If Apple said on the ToC that your iPhone will blown up in 2 years and actually did implement, would that make Apple immune to lawsuit? No

They should do is when phone randomly shutdown, they should tell consumer that is battery issue. All they need to do is upfront about it. I think all consumer understand that battery eventually dies. When that happens, you change the battery or replace your phone. The choices is under consumers. What people upset about is not battery is dying. It is about why Apple being upfront about it.

Apple's response is too late. Apple only responded after several lawsuit all over the world and several government intervention. This make Apple looks bad, now all Apple is doing is last minute PR.

Yeah...cause random shutdowns would not cause any issues, gripes, or bad press. Good one. Very funny!

For the record: 7 iOS devices in the house, and no (noticeable) issues.

I have an IPhone 6. I haven’t run any diagnostics on my phone and battery, but I know my battery is garbage. Very erratic, and I can’t get it cold AT ALL. Kills it outright.

And I’ve definitely noticed that my phone also runs like garbage. But she is old, so I can’t really say one way or another. It’s frustrating though.

That deals with software. No where does it mention hardware throttling. The phone with CPU is ours, the software is Apple's.

What Apple should do is stop offering iOS updates after 2 years of ownership. No new features, no new Apple app updates, no optimizations, no new protocols, no nothing.

And then all of you will be happy with your Geekfast phones. Oh, but I guess then you would scream about how holding back on all the new iOS innovations is forcing people to buy new iPhones. It's a scam to get people to upgrade! How could they do this to us and hold back iOS 12 from us!

It's always something.

It was iOS that had the code that caused the throttle. So it has EVERYTHING to do with the iOS.

7.4 clearly states that ...APPLE DOES NOT WARRANT AGAINST INTERFERENCE WITH YOUR ENJOYMENT OF THE iOS SOFTWARE AND SERVICES, THAT THE FUNCTIONS CONTAINED IN, OR SERVICES PERFORMED OR PROVIDED BY, THE iOS SOFTWARE WILL MEET YOUR REQUIREMENTS, THAT THE OPERATION OF THE iOS SOFTWARE AND SERVICES WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED OR ERROR-FREE...etc.

You hit the AGREE button.

You didn't need to.

But you did.

Sorry.

No, they don't. This isn't Apple Store behavior which is more like a Rolex store or a Louis Vuitton store. Customers are left alone when they walk in, are given help only when they are asked, and there is no shark-like hard-pressure selling as you are describing it.

This is Apple. It's not the hair extensions kiosk in the mall or the girl with the Chinese ribs in the food court.

And class-action lawsuits are dime-a-dozen. Now there's an industry with shark-like hard-pressure salesmen.

As I said, no point in arguing with you......

You know what... Random shutdown already happened... About a year ago. Apple decided replace some iPhone 6S battery. If you think random shutdown will generated bad press, I tell you it happened one year ago. During that time, iPhone 6 users also experienced random shutdown. You can go back to old MacRumors news.

Apple fixed the shutdown issue with this power management "feature". Then this happens.

Tell me, why Apple didn't replace battery for all iPhone 6 and 6S users?

Okay, they will need to get to work on batteries that last forever then.
Hence, I mentioned battery replacement policies. There's a disconnect when iOS thinks battery is bad enough that it needs to throttle while Apple's battery diagnostics software says battery is still good.

I don't expect batteries to last forever. Sure would be nice, though. Except on the iPad 3. Even after 5 years, battery was still strong on that one even when I was looking for excuses to replace it. :p

You're not arguing. You're complaining. And instead of being embraced in the warm bosom of other unhappy people you're running into happy people who think that one week of this is long enough.

Apology. Check. Discounted battery. Check. No 80% health barrier. Check.

You won. Only you know why you're still unhappy.

Tell me, why Apple didn't replace battery for all iPhone 6 and 6S users?

My iPhone 6, my wife's iPhone 6, and my oldest son's iPhone 6S are all working perfectly.

My daughter's iPhone 6S and my hockey son's iPhone 6S aren't working well at all but that's not Apple's fault, that's their fault. They don't treat their phones properly. Constant backlights from Snapchat and Instagram alerts. Never having their batteries fully charged and plugging in/out all day. Freezing cold conditions and boiling hot conditions. Watching streaming video for hours at a time in bed. That's not Apple's fault. So I don't expect them to pay.

So, that's why Apple didn't replace all the batteries. Most users are happy. Those that aren't mistreated their equipment.

Totally agree with your first point. They screwed up there, and on this whole issue, but I still believe it's overblown. Ah the iPad 3. I couldn't get rid of that thing quick enough haha.

I would actually like that.

I purposely keep devices on older iOS versions when I determine that it's at the limit of acceptable performance. Only annoying thing is newer iOS versions keep nagging you to update unless you don't have any free space on the device.

iPhone 4: iOS 5
iPhone 4S: iOS 6
iPad 4: iOS 6
iPad Air: iOS 9

Thing is newer chipsets are actually fairly capable. Something like the Apple A9 can actually handle iOS 11 well if not for throttling. Even the Apple A8X (with 2GB RAM and beefed up GPU) still offers very good experience on iOS 11. The Apple A8, not so much even with a fresh battery.

I'd be fine with this as long as we received security patches only for a certain period of time like Operating Systems. I'd still be on iOS9 if it was possible and secure. I've never upgraded an iPhone for any specific new feature outside of screen size, it's almost always been cause whatever my current phone was running like crap. I'm still using a crappy running 6 and probably would keep it through iOS 12 if I could get a new battery, but since I can't I may be forced to upgrade sooner.

So you tell me... All the soga related with throttling is because people mistreated their iPhone? Oh well....

Good you and your wife's iPhone is good. My isn't. I put mine I case, I putted screen protector, I never let my phone die then charge the phone. But it is slow.

Oh well... Once I get the replacement battery, I will sell it. Not touching Apple stuff again.

You and iDefense team can have fun. Apple should be glade they have loyal customers. I in other hand, never loyal to any brand.
