I don't know how to feel about these. In one sense it's very cool to see Apple to bring this tech out commercially. Biggest company in the world launching into the next big UI and form factor. Reminds me of iPhone. In another, it's terribly disappointing AR isn't better yet.

We've known since at least 2010 what AR will eventually look like, and it seemed like we could get there much faster. We need regular glasses, more or less, not goggles first and foremost. AR needs to go with you everywhere, and this tech is clearly very limited. This isn't the iPhone of 2007, it's something far more primitive. Surprising Apple is launching such a product, and way outside of their normal playbook...they usually put out polished finished products rather than this, which is almost like a tech demo.

AR can't get here fast enough for me.

If true, I wonder if the box size is a part of the experience, in that it creates an initial perception of the Vision Pro as being "small" relative to the size of the box.

curious when you say "its clearly very limited" and "its not a polished finished product". in what ways?

In reality it is far more advanced than anything even today's iPhones are capable of. The "primitive" feeling is only relative to the fictitious version you're envisioning. I agree when that day arrives, that will be the mass-adoption version of the device. But we're just not there yet, and that's ok. What they've built seems pretty impressive.

Do we get to keep the employee if we decide the Vision Pro is crap and want to return it? They can wave my Mac around in the air and I’ll have the experience without the cost.
The Apple employee, as well as the confetti tube + contents must be sent back together with your iGlasses. Not all employees want to go back into the box, but you have to entice them a little.

Box looks pretty much exactly as I expected, except for the size. I can not friggin wait to lug this giant thing in the house and open it!

Yep, fictitious for now.

To be honest the box for the original Playstation VR was probably just as bad, I guess they have to account for the couriers having a game of football with a ball worth $3499 (then hope the 'goal' is your house rather than 'substituting' for a box full of rocks or something)

OK enough football puns

The eBay resellers will regret having offered free international shipping.

Those who do that will price the shipping cost into the item price. Many of us sold dozens of PS5s which had similarly sized boxes but were much heavier. This will be nothing out of the ordinary.

So much of the Vision Pro release reminds me of the original iPhone launch: huge box (relative to later versions) and lots of included accessories.

It comes with a lot of accessories, but I feel like there's a lot of wasted space. A quest box is a fraction of the size.

The thing is the accessories all have to be in separate boxes and then selected by size per customer, so the packing can't be as efficient as it would be were it to simply be a one-size-fits-all device like pretty much everything else Apple sell.

Doesn't that get really complicated from a tax perspective?

I still remember unboxing my first iPod gen 3. It was almost magical. Never experienced that since and now Apple unboxings are minimal and boring. Hope this is different and for the price justifiably so.

Also may it’s big because of the massive included Apple stickers.

Lol nice box, cannot wait for the tik tok video of the guy complaining he did not get a 20% tip for the home delivery of the Apple Vision Pro.
