The thing is the accessories all have to be in separate boxes and then selected by size per customer, so the packing can't be as efficient as it would be were it to simply be a one-size-fits-all device like pretty much everything else Apple sell.

Fair enough, but I hate how they do this with the Apple Watch too whether you already have a million watch bands or not. I wish they would just let us buy the watch itself without all the accessories for a discounted price.

Do you all recall when Apple tried to do away with bags completely, as they handled you a $1,200 phone or $4,000 computer without something to carry it in? This must be one awkward box to carry for them to break down and offer a commemorative bag!! :D

Now I kinda wish I was able to select the Michigan Avenue store (it had pre-selected a store based on my last purchase and wouldn’t let me change it, so I went with delivery). But the 4% sales tax savings (6.25% state tax vs. 10.25% all-in local) are probably worth more than that commemorative bag.

Apple's Vision Pro headset comes in a very large box that uses the company's typically distinctive design language, MacRumors has seen.

Render of the Apple Vision Pro box based on official materials.

The packaging, seen by MacRumors in an Apple employee training video, mirrors the design used across many of its other devices that come in boxes that slide open from the top. Those hoping for an exciting new packaging design for the new product line will be disappointed; the top of the cuboid box features a front view of the Vision Pro headset, while each of the longer sides is simply emblazoned with gray Apple "Vision Pro" text.

While the design itself may be fairly unremarkable, the box's size is immense, almost filling the entire lap of a customer. This is because it contains a Solo Knit Band, a Dual Loop Band, a Light Seal, two Light Seal cushions, a cover, an external battery pack, a USB-C charging cable, a power adapter, a polishing cloth, and the Vision Pro headset itself, necessitating an extremely large receptacle. Until now, the size and design of the box has been unknown.

Customers who purchase a Vision Pro in-store are set to have their device's various sized parts boxed up with the headset itself by Apple Store employees. The device is arranged lengthways in the oblong box and comes pre-attached to the Solo Knit Band. Even though the Vision Pro's box is much larger than that of devices like the Mac Studio, which have a fabric handle on the top to help transport it, there is no grab-handle on the top of Vision Pro's box.

The Vision Pro headset is set to launch on Friday, February 2. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman yesterday said that the Vision Pro, like the original iPhone, will be accompanied by a commemorative shopping bag for those who buy or pick-up the device in-store.

Make you feel like I got something for my almost 5 grand

The commemorative bag thing upsets me a bit. As an avid collector of Apple stickers, I live over an hour from an Apple Store, I chose home delivery for my (2) Vision Pros. I need to find a way to get a bag or 2.

That certainly is some big box!

So they made all the other products boxes much smaller... so they could go "Maxi" on the box for AVP

This is carbon offsetting in practice 😂

I suppose you'd feel better about your purchase... and everyone can see that you have bought an AVP 🤣
Seriously, this is ridiculous. $30B in R&D and they couldn't figure out how to get it into a box as small as MQ? I guess we won't be seeing an Apple exec touting how they reduced the packaging size to reduce their carbon footprint this year.

I don't know how to feel about these. In one sense it's very cool to see Apple to bring this tech out commercially. Biggest company in the world launching into the next big UI and form factor. Reminds me of iPhone. In another, it's terribly disappointing AR isn't better yet.

We've known since at least 2010 what AR will eventually look like, and it seemed like we could get there much faster. We need regular glasses, more or less, not goggles first and foremost. AR needs to go with you everywhere, and this tech is clearly very limited. This isn't the iPhone of 2007, it's something far more primitive. Surprising Apple is launching such a product, and way outside of their normal playbook...they usually put out polished finished products rather than this, which is almost like a tech demo.

AR can't get here fast enough for me.
Apple has disseminated to influencers that tested this device not to divulge it in public or reviews as either VR or AR its “Spacial Computing”. Although its similar to AR its a combined technology of the two sets.

The reasoning for the large box is so very obvious and logical, seriously!

Showed up in my UPS app. Apple website order doesn’t show it yet.
My tracking shows one of my VP 512 headsets just left Changhai China via UPS Worldwide Express Saver - this morning at 10:15am arriving 2/2 and is 4.70 Kgs

This really doesn't seem like an Apple product to me.

It has the aesthetic of a siemens ultrasound machine.

I remember collecting my MacBook Air 15" from the Apple Store and they put it in a nice Apple bag, luckily I had come prepared with a Morrisons (supermarket in the UK) bag for life to put over the Apple bag to make it look like I was just carrying around a box of cereal or something

Worked well for both theft risk and also 'girlfriend finding out I had just spent a lot of money on a new laptop' risk when I got home

I collect Apple Boxes and have about 25 years worth. This won't fit on the shelf I use. They're all HOmePod height and only my PowerMac and iMac boxes sit out in the garage. The AVP box won't fit on my big shelf of boxes so I'm not sure where I'm going to put it. Maybe I need a new shelf?
