I think you gotta use what just fit you the most for how you use your phone. I love my 6s+ and my S7 edge and my Note 5 and my......
Just use what you like the best. Doesn't matter who makes it......

Right off the bat I miss the today screen and notification screen. Widgets on android are nice but I really don't want to scroll through screens looking for them when on iOS I can just pull down and they are all right there. Handoff is a big one too not being able to switch between android and macOS on the fly like I can on iOS.

I agree with this completely. I love so much of the tech out there right now. Currently using a 6s Plus, but would have no issue using an Android phone. People make one side or the other out to be some God. If it makes your life better or easier, then use it. But if something else makes someone else's life better or easier, then you should support that too. I'm sure 99.9% of us in here get no money from Apple, Google, Samsung, et al. So I don't understand the unabashed love for one side or the other.
Totally agree! I love all technology...it's a beautiful time we live in! :)
Far too often we put ourselves in silos and defend what we have chosen. What is great for me....might not be so great for you. In the end....just use what works for you and go from there.....

KDE or Gnome or other GUIs don't interest me and why when i have OS X and all the command line tools i need are the same on both or if i miss something i can install from macports or compile myself. I don't see a point in using linux whatsoever.

Which brings us for the second time to my original statement and point.

Then you have what works best for you. Personally I love my widgets on my home screen. I just wake my phone and the info I want most is right on my home screen without having to do anything.

I switch between my iphone and android phones all the time sometimes daily. I see the pros and minuses of BOTH platforms...but I just adjust and move on......it not a big deal to me.

I despise this blatant ignorant attitude of Android users that just because they change a couple of themes and install custom ROMs, they're some next level tech savvy hacking gurus.

I despise this blatant ignorant attitude of iOS users who seem to think that a comment made by one person represents the values and views of millions.

Never said its everyone but I've seen good enough number of people to make a general statement. Exactly how "someone" generalised earlier.

So how do you deal with iMessage you just leave it off all the time or do you have separate lines? My issue is I turn off iMessage then switch the SIM I don't think I'm getting all my text. I know I missed a couple while watching hockey last night. Also do you have to turn off iMessage on everything? I have iPhone 6S and 6S+, iPad Air and Macs.

The only issue I ever get from flagship Android phones nowadays is, every once in awhile it acts funny when you wake it up after a long period of time. Kind of the same way after reseting it and waiting several seconds for everything to simmer. Other than that, I have no issues that are not preferenced based.

Two things are keeping me away from iOS as my daily driver. The restrictions and app crashes. I'm personally sick of jailbreaking and rooting, and the cons that come along with it. So the restrictions on the iPhone bother me too much to use as my main device. I don't know if it's just my luck, but apps crash too frequently on iOS for my taste. The app would just dissappear and I'll be right back to the home screen. If crashed apps picked up where the left off, I wouldn't mind that much. It always happens at the wrong damn time too. With Android, apps rarely crash for me(except games), and usually open back up where it left off depending on the app.

When i switch from my 6s+ to an android phone I turn off imessage on my iphone. Then just switch sims to another phone. I don't text from anyother device than my iphone. The other devices ( ipads , imac, rMBP) are shared devices so anyone in the house could use them at anytime. I don't want them to get my notifications. This system works for me so i can switch between devices anytime i want. We all have our preferences and just need to use what works best for each of us.....

When I switch I first turn it off on the iPhone, then turn it off briefly on my other Apple devices. I also go the the Apple site to de-register my phone, as a precaution. I then move my sim to my Android phone. Afterwards, I turn it back on on my iPads/Macs so my kids can still contact me via there iPads.

Sounds more cumbersome than it is--yes, not ideal but only takes a minute. Following these steps I've had no issues to date.

So you've seen a lot of people do this, out of the maybe 4 or 5 billion users in the world and you feel that you can make a general statement about android users.

Yes because that's how people generalise. Nobody goes and checks with every human being on the planet. Please don't get annoying.

I will give this a try I really want to be able to switch back and forth. Want to throw the S7 in rotation with my 6S and 6S+. Yes I've got issues.

Widgets...that's all that really needs to be said. To have the ability to glance at a single homescreen and glean all the information I need is priceless. Every time I use my wife's iphone and have to use that horrible UI, which is just a bunch of pages of icons and icons I cringe. I love Apple hardware, but their software is seriously stuck in the past.

Tried to browse on the iPad 2 last night using Safari and it is painfully slow on it. My sub-$40 local branded MyPhone DTV with an obscure Spreadtrum SoC browses faster on CM Browser or Opera Mini and it is my worst smartphone in rotation with all the weird bugs. So my ancient iPad 2 which is on 8.3 is only really used to watch videos and play songs since the A5 chip can't handle browsing. Even typing on it lags. Battery life is still stellar on it like it is brand new. Those devices released before 2013 really feel ancient to use.

Don't fall into the trap of updating software every single time. I was reading comments on the iPhone 4s which has same SoC as iPad 2 and alot of people wished they were still on iOS7 and regret ever updating to iOS9. Which is why price value makes sense with Android. For the cheapest iPhone (SE), you can buy 10 different Android devices. For a used iPhone, you can still get multiple brand new Androids.

This is why price value plays a part while having guinea pig phones. Experiment the newest software or flash ROMs on the cheapest phones in case you brick them. Because updating can make all your phones unusable like it does to iOS devices beyond 2-3 years. And most people who only use one device like say an iPhone will end up stuck on newer software they wished they never updated to and then forced to buy newer hardware. So for any iOS users bragging they get timely updates than Android... Sure, at what cost?

I probably won't be passionate with phones forever similar to other hobbies. I don't see myself at age 40 or 50 rotating five different phones. Only in the 2010's that smartphones seem to be a fad to me. I will cut my 5 phones down to 2 by the next decade and one of them probably won't be an iPhone. Two Android phones minimum. Always have a spare for extra battery life and cheap phone to experiment with. Android rocks if you know what you are doing.

Gotta be in it to win it
Is the ipad 2 painfully slow? Not at all. Is it as fast as my 6s...no way. Is it at end of life? I think it is.

However the ipad 2 is running 9.3 beta 2. A 5 year old device that is still fairly functional getting software updates with pretty darn good battery life; no wonder ipad sales are down. Apple makes hardware and software support that is just too good. I can probably live with the ipad 2 for another year then I'll see what the landscape looks like.

I like the interaction between my iphone and ipad. Can leave the phone anywhere in the house and get all the notifications, facetime, imessage, icloud, notes etc on the ipad.

You should stick with Apple......for sure.

Android is a real beast - if you don't know what you are doing you are not getting the best out of it. It's not for people who want a device that is straight out of the box functioning as is. If you want that sort of thing go for an iPhone. Android 6 is superior especially an S7 Edge vs any iPhone.

But you are not going to get the best out of any android device if you just open up the box and start using it. that's the problem with Android - there's too many options and people really just want simplicity. The problem I have with iOS is that it's great an all on an iPad but on a smartphone it's just too limiting.

And to add on to that, I'm still not a fan of the iOS widgets in the Today screen. It's so limited and cluttered. I remove all of them and just keep the calendar and calculator.

I agree somewhat, but I think it's more reason than that.

My mother has been using a Note 4 for awhile now and has no issues with operating it. Even though I cringe when I look at her scattered icons and widgets randomly placed on the homescreens. She might not be taking full advantage of what the Note 4 can do, but it works for her.

I know many older and tech illiterate with Android phones, and it's never been too complicated for them. Not saying they don't need help every once in awhile, but that applies to iPhone users too.

I get that and I like my drop down option too. Just wish more apps supported notifications widgets like on android

You just can't beat android for widgets...I'm mad on widgets.

Just scrolling like instead of going to the last page on iPhone is a big bonus. I can see my NBA scores, NBA news from CBS and the score.

What I like on android now on my S7 edge on goal+ I don't even need to go into an app to see the live football scores

For example

I actually can't stand the way widgets work in iOS. I rarely if ever see them or use them in any way.

I'm the same. I use very few widgets on my Android phones because I spend so little time on my home screens. I prefer their implementation on iOS because they're all in one place and accessible from anywhere with I quick swipe down---super easy to get info at a glance or even jump straight into another app without touching a home screen. I use Launcher to quickly launch apps, compose messages or make calls all without having to go to a home screen to launch another app.

I believe there are fundamental, deep problems with android that are not going to be solved unless ... Everyone knows this because as soon as people can afford one, they move to an iPhone. Rarely are there switchers to android.

my only "problem" with android is googles too loose policy providing privacy and devs can changed their apps too much.

afford one? iphone is a "cheap" phone, it is not a luxury device with a high price tag. you can see more expensive android phones on the street. everyone can buy iphone if they really want one, and if they dont have cash they have differend ways to buy it. so the price debate is bs totally - if you have money to buy s7, you have money to buy 6s too.

i think your fundamental error was trying to use android as you were using your iphone.
