Just wondering where do I get a .mkv file?
Same place you might get a .avi from, just different forms of movie format.
[doublepost=1465495196][/doublepost]
I don't load movies or music on my device because I have Netflix and siriusxm.
Always so avasive with your answers, nothing changes I see.
So you've made a rip off a bluray disc, copied it onto your iPad, how do you play it.. thru netflix?

Another poster has finally answered the question you are avoiding for some reason. Vlc for ios. Sorted.

Yeah I can use a Plex server and with VLC player I'm pretty sure I can download the movie diectly to my iPad/iPhone. I'd have to double check that though can't remember for sure.

I addressed this in a prior post; I don't load movies or music on my iPhone or iPad because I have paid subscriptions to streaming services that are all I need. Not sure why the reality of this simple concept is being misconstrued.

And thus I don't know about apps to play said files.

You shouldn't need to change it that's the point I'm making. A lot of Android users don't do the whole customization thing they use the phone out the box.
But the absolute worst position to be in is to have ugly iOS icons and not be able to change them at all. So unjailbroken iPhones are the ugliest UI out there.

Have you seen themes that are available for touchwiz? They are worse than horrible. If you want some decent theme ,that covers the UI deeper, to install you have to root the phone as far as i know. Installing launchers? No thank you.

From that point it's not hard to just jailbreak an iPhone.
There is no jailbreak for 9.2 and higher. There doesn't appear to be any hope for a jailbreak any time soon since the devs finding the exploits can now sell them to the NSA, Russians, Israelis for beaucoup bucks. So why release a public jailbreak for free when you can get hundreds, yes, hundreds of thousands of dollars by selling it? Right, you wouldn't release publicly, you sell. That is what the devs are doing now.

The harder it is to jailbreak, the more valuable the bugs become and the less likely that a public jailbreak will be released.

So keep hoping for your jailbreak, but you will be waiting a looooooooong time for one.

Nope not to me
There's no accounting for bad taste.
[doublepost=1465501267][/doublepost]
I've been smart enough to figure out how to jailbreak iOS 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9
And tell me, when was the last jailbreak for iOS? 9.2. And the prospects for any more are dim for the reasons I stated above.

Actually the last jailbreak was for 9.1. 64-bit devices only. Still nothing for 9.1.2 and above.

As to the prospects, they are the same as they ever were. Jailbreaking was declared dead three times that I know of. iOS 7, 8 and 9.

It's possible that a jailbreak will be long in coming as you state. But it's equally possible that it's right around the corner.

In any case, I don't believe the timetable for a jailbreak is relevant to the actual discussion here. Your original comment was about my technical smarts - or lack of them as you stated.

My rebuttal was simply to deny the validity of your comment. I.e., if I can jailbreak, I have the "technical smarts" to customize an Android device.

I simply choose not to. Because I am not interested in Android - for all the reasons I mentioned in my original post. Customizing Android does not remove the problems I have with the functionality of the OS.

I have a jailbroken iPhone on iOS 9.0.2 and I'm good with what I have. But if jailbreaking ever does die I will go back to Windows Mobile from whence I came in 2011 - I will not migrate to Android.

You do realise one doesn't need to setup their iPhones multiple times once they've got it setup as well... Just back it up to either iCloud or iTunes and you're sorted. I don't know why you're even bringing that argument out.
I know that, i said this because the of the comment about spending hours setting up an Android phone. I just pointed out how quickly you can actually setup the homescreen.

Another fun little thing I used to do with my old HTC One M7 is have it play two videos simultaneously like say Gotye's "Someone That I Used To Know" with "The Stars Wars That I Used To Know". Have them run nearly the same time with the lyrics.

The trick?

Use QuickPic to play one video and use MoboPlayer mini player for the other. Most quad core phones should be able to do it. I just stopped using Mobo even though I miss the mini player because my LG can do it and also I just prefer using MX Player more with the right settings for it. The key to Android is customize the settings to your liking. I mean that for every app. It is why I always have another Android phone around to copy in case I forget the settings for each app.

I treat owning multiple phones like a game of Final Fantasy. I go through the settings option alot and menu to customize my team. You learn to be a micromanager with multiple phones and Android. Whatever weakness one phone has based on a certain scenario, you have another device that can make up for it. I own FIVE phones including a local branded Android Lollipop with DTV, and I go through all of them. They each have their talent and flaws. Like The Avengers. You just need to be aware of all their strengths and weaknesses. Make them all work together like each family member doing chores at home.

Unlike the OP, I can never stick to one daily driver. One iPhone? Two? So boring! I was platform agnostic a few years ago before committing myself to the green little robot from Google. Not since 2010 have I really been wowed by Apple with an iPhone announcement when Steve Jobs was still alive. Even the initial excitement for iPhone 6/6 Plus and SE faded fast for me. More of the same with Apple running out of ideas every year that they just follow others.

"Be together. Not the same." That's Android for me. While Apple tries to be uniformed but always feels the same...

The biggest thing I miss about Nova Launcher, was the ability to remove all labels from icons.

It should be an option on all devices, text on icons seems superfluous to me.. Big green phone icon and it says "phone" underneath, are we really that stupid?

Another thing I love with Android are all the maintenance apps. I tried three apps today -

Trimmer - Nice. Simple to use.

L Speed - Didn't know what was going on so I uninstalled.

Roost Booster - Isn't exactly free for the extreme modes on every Android I have and worried it messes up things I don't want it to like closing apps I don't want hibernated.

Of the three, I only kept Trimmer. Android has TRIM since JB 4.3, but like to see an app trim for me and do it weekly with a notification.

Android v iOS seems reversed with me the more I use them longer. Everything on iOS is spoon fed to users. Then the software updates eventually slows down our iPhones and we are forced to update so we can download apps or buy a newer iPhone to keep up with the newer software. Android isn't really built for idiots. It can be slow and laggy at first compared to the other OSes, but with simple tweaks it can get faster and smoother with the proper settings than the others.

Out of curiosity, do you work savour? I'm amazed to find the amount of time you spend behind a phone which is supposed to enhance your life. In this situation it feels like your life revolves around your phone.

Well said.

Its like you enjoy modifying your car everyday, rather than actually enjoy driving it which is the main purpose of having a car.

Well well.. that's definitely some fun .. I am glad I will never try doing that and happy that my ios devices are not capable of doing that. So are you actually sharing your old M7 to view multiple videos with somebody else? Just kindly share the purpose

Slow and laggy at first? Maybe if you buy a cheap one, get a decent one and they fly....

Not sure what you are doing to need all this maintenance.. I have one ram buster widget which just cleans out all old ram caches in one go. Bar that it's as it came out of the box, just as fast, just as smooth , and to be honest I don't even know if the ram widget does anything, it's more force of habit tbh .

I don't know, i pick up my phone and use it. No maintenance required.
I despise this blatant ignorant attitude of Android users that just because they change a couple of themes and install custom ROMs, they're some next level tech savvy hacking gurus.

It all depends on the stage of life one is in. I used to be a mod nerd back in my younger days but I just don't have the time or the energy to go through this now. I need a stable system that works for me predictably and always.

Most if not all people that have technical jobs also scientists will be using iOS devices, because at the end of the day you want it to just work which iOS still does much better.

Exactly... And guess which field I'm in.
Best example. I jump into my car, drive to a store and buy a Time Capsule. Come back and 10 minutes later i have a router setup with Time Machine backing up. How long does it take to do that for Windows and Android user? As far as i know you have to have a router setup which is not very user friendly quite often, then buy some personal cloud storage thingy from Seagate or WD, then setup that and probably install some apps. Then configure Windows/Android part. I'm probably guessing, but that takes more than 10 minutes.

There are all different types of people in the world. I don't want to just pick up something and use it I want to build what I want. I work on a Mac all day I don't want to use a Mac when I get home so I don't. There's no right answer that's why threads like this turn into a flame war.

One of the best reasons to use Android has not been mentioned so far. Automation. You and other iPhone users like to mention you want your phone to make your life easier. With automation on android you can literally sit and watch your phone do whatever you want it to do without touching or saying anything to it. It doesn't get easier than that.

One example is I can set my phone to do the follwing once I enter my car:
open maps
turn on location
open Google play music
Start playing from a playlist
...WITHOUT touching my phone.

But as per usual you're going to find an excuse as to why you wouldn't want your phone to do tasks without being asked.

That's strange. I don't start using my left hand just because i was using my right all day. Makes no sense. If using Mac annoys you then just say so. That i can understand.
