I was an iPhone user for many years and often tried Android in that time. This was back when Android was pretty undeveloped (around 2011) and iOS was quite superior.

From 2013, Android caught up and then went far ahead of iOS. Now whenever I try an iPhone I feel just how I used to feel with Android: what does this do for me? And the answer is nothing.

I'm no fanboy. I just can't be bothered with all customisation and stuff. Oh and I deal with both iOS and Android on a daily basis. That's my job. So it's not that I don't know enough about the platforms. I've just gone past the age where you find happiness in nova launcher.

And yes I'm vested in the Eco system and all my apple devices work together seamlessly without me having to touch anything. That makes my life easier and that's what I like.

An Apple device can never truly be a great multimedia media player if it can't truly play several different formats. This has been going on since the iPod days when it could finally play a video but other brands from Creative, Cowon, iRiver, and Archos were just as good at handling any format you threw at it and had longer video playback that the iPod 5th could at only 2 hours. Like Sony PSP, we had to download a program on our computer to convert them the format and resolution they could read. Even iTunes now won't recognize my Game of Thrones 4 in MKV and a couple of my favorite movies in AVI. QuickPic on Android is just as good at handling both my photo albums and videos. I need to use two apps on iPhone for it. Screw iTunes. Drag and drop files into folders is still the way to go for me when handling media.

That's where Netflix and udp come in; don't have to bother loading movies on the device.

I agree with that completely. It probably took me longer to set up my iPhone. Putting each and every single app into folders and in just the right spot on my home screen. Where I just need like 6 folders in Android with my most needed apps and the rest get stuck into the app drawer.
Btw Setup was a breeze, iTunes backup and restore, then change SIM. iTunes makes that part easy.

Why spread lies... Apparently because that's what some iPhone devotees do.

Twice now (this morning) I've been able to get Celtic Tribes to do a full screen ad after going from the map to my tribe on my Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 (Android 6.0.1 - Cyanogenmod). I've never had that happen on my iPhone or iPad in Celtic Tribes.

You clearly don't use both or you'd realize this. Sad you feel the need to call someone a liar at the expense of your own inexperience. Celtic Tribes is not the only app that does this on Android...

Full screen ads exist in some apps in both iOS and Android.

Your problems ill be solved if you simply use an adblocker. I started using adblockers on my iOS and Android devices for the same reason you are complaining about. I got tired if using apps that would show an ad and then redirect me to the app store or force me to view a full screen ad before I could use the app.

Many apps don't offer an ad free paid version so they get around that by forcing ads both on iOS and Android. One good example of that on iOS is a local app here that I used to use called the Denver Post. Every few stories you would be forced to view a full page ad.

I now block all ads on every device I use and I get no more ads in apps. I really don't care if it hurts the devs when they force app store redirects or full page ads. They lose.

I believe it. I haven't seen it on iOS but only because I haven't gotten those apps. My post was in response to someone calling me a liar because some of the apps I do use have full screen ads in Android but not iOS - but I definitely believe what you say is true.

Interesting, I had no idea that the adblockers worked outside of a browser - that's cool - thanks for the info. And agreed 100% - devs who do this make me mad.

On iOS with jailbreaking, you can use an app called Weblock. It blocks ads in apps and the browser only while on WiFi. I don't know of any other way to block ads in apps on cellular without jailbreaking. If you are jailbroken, you simply apply a hosts blocker which then blocks ads in apps and the browser.

On Android, if rooted, you can install Adaway. If not rooted, install Adguard. Both of those block ads in apps and the browser.

Yea, the same app can push ads differently on each platform. It depends what developers feel they can get away with on iOS and Android.

For me: overall lack of consistency in UI design. Depending on which Android device you get, there will be a slight learning curve because of the skin that's put on top of Android. It's just too much going on. I much prefer simplicity.

When I jailbreak or root I just put my own hosts file in the ect folder, just another way of doing it if you don't want to use an app. FYI it can also be done on both windows and macOS (your probably aware of all that though).

My biggest peeve with Android has mostly been the inconstancy with icons some are square some are round, some are big some are small its a mess.

Not sure what udp is, but how does netflix play a .mkv on your device. ? Can you access your gallery via the app?

I agree about the icons and it no being consistent across different phones and OEMs. I switch between phones quite a lot. To make my Android user experience consistent. I use Nova as my launcher. I customize the icon grid and icon size and screen layout and icon and folder placements once......then back up the settings and upload it through Nova to DropBox. Now i can have those same settings on every Android phone I use. It is nice and consistant and just the way I like it......

The different icons can be changed with an icon pack. And MM introduced something that makes icons the same size. Forget what it was called though.

Exactly what I used to do. I miss Nova Launcher. Loved sizing it down so I could put a TON of icons on my screen without need for folders. :p

Yep I understand that it can be fixed and I think Touchwiz offers something like that now but it should be standardized by google. That will be one of the first couple things I do when I get my hands on the S7 tonight.

Not to mention with a Launcher like Nova you can save your setup and apply it to your next phone instantly.
You do realise one doesn't need to setup their iPhones multiple times once they've got it setup as well... Just back it up to either iCloud or iTunes and you're sorted. I don't know why you're even bringing that argument out.
