I couldn't be happier to join the S5 SBSS Hermès gang!

It's interesting how some people have no issue with the mismatched lugs while others can't stand it. I'm sort of in the middle, but probably would've tried the SB this year if they'd also upgraded the innards. It feels weird to not want to get a new AW!

Some of the reports I read say there are differences in the series 4 and 5.

The CPU is exactly the same. The S5 has more memory and of course the AOD tech in the screen. But as for horsepower, no difference. Tear downs have confirmed this.

The Hermès is the best Apple Watch, IMO. The Space Black models are stunning this year and I highly recommend them.
I’ve had 2 and really enjoyed them both; but to say they’re the best watch when it’s the game watch is a little much. They have the best bands hands down I agree, but if you’re going to wear a sports band 90% of the time i would just get stainless steel version

I ended up returning my SS SB Hermes and getting a normal SS SB.

Sounds crazy but a big motivator for getting the S4 Hermes for me was the faces more than the bands. I’m a long, long time mechanical watch wearer and found the stock faces unpalatable. I liked the Hermes ones and ended up using the Argent/Rouge face 90% of time. Haven’t used the deployment clasp much, too afraid of getting it wet, it’s a little impractical for me. Used my existing link bracelet from the Series 2 most of the time, bar the gym and a couple of other bands.

This time, I‘m pretty happy with the way I‘ve configured the stock California dial so decided to return the Hermes and buy a SB link bracelet to go along with a normal SB SS. I love it, and it feels sufficiently different to my old SS. Apart from not matching the lugs with my deployment, it still looks good with my orange Hermes sport band, white Nike band and the orange (whatever the official colour was) leather loop.

the watch faces were my big motivator. the hermes ones are just unparalleled to apples for me, esp the two tone color block ones.

but i see the california face is very popular for many here

Got my Noir Hermès Watch but am not sure I’m going to keep it. I think I just prefer the Stainless but also REALLY lime the brushed metal look of the Titanium ones that I say in store.

One thing I will say is that the numbered Noir faces are unreadable they are so dim. And I wish Apple would brighten up the Hermès numbered watch face as it’s not nearly as bright as the California face numbers are. I know it’s not just this model as it was the same on my S4 Hermès but I wish they’d improve the brightness of the numbers.

I still prefer the Hermes ones by far, the California dial is a compromise, but I know I’d end up using the Argent/Rouge face almost exclusively, and I decided the price bump for one face was a step too far for me this time. Plus, I had ZERO expectation to be upgrading from my S4 this year....and then the AOD happened, heh.

I can’t rule out upgrading again next year when, presumably, there’ll be a significant design change and new sensors, so another Hermes this year so soon after the last one was too much for me I decided.

I noticed that before I returned it, thought I was imagining it. The same Hermes faces did seem marginally dimmer than my S4 held side by side, and equally not as bright as the California dial in the always on mode.

Completely agree. If you’re not going to wear the Hermès band 75%+ of the time. The black noir as stunning as it is, is It worth it

I’m really digging the Bleu/Sakura faces. California and Meridian are the best stock faces. Only took Apple 5 years to make a fullscreen dial.

Yeah exactly.

Hated the California dial in screenshots, found the mix of Roman and Arabic numerals almost offensive. Actually like it in the metal, and setting the monogram in the top complication to “XII” adds a bit of symmetry I find. Still prefer the Hermes dials, maybe next year.
