Just a question out of curiousity. What will you do with all your Hermes watch bands if Apple change the connector next year? Are the connectors of the Hermes band exchangeable?

"Normal" bands have the same problem of course.
Lugs are sold by Apple. The assumption is if lugs ever change, they will still sell new lugs. I would swap mine over.

Members on here have bought used bands for their SBSS lugs and swapped off their SS lugs for the SBSS lugs. So the community is already familiar with lug swaps.

Plus, Apple has shown that the current lugs work at least up to 49mm (ultra watch) and they kept the same lug shape with the 49mm watch.

I don’t think we have anything to worry about and if we did, we are smart enough to figure out new lugs.

I’ve never expected my bands to be flown on a private jet, driven in an armored car from the airport to my house, protected by a team of elite army men, and delivered by a Hermes rep wearing white gloves and kneeing on one knee as they ring my doorbell. It’s my usual FexEx/ UPS dudes. Right now, they both are good but when they’re on vacation or sick, their temps have been seen throwing packages or leaving boxes with $10k goods on the step and not ringing the doorbell (even though I have a note kindly asking to ring the doorbell.) The posters expectations have far exceeded reality. A reality check and some fresh air is needed. That’s all I am going to say on this matter.

That‘s exactly the point. What was Apple supposed to do? Is there a „middle ground“ service between regular UPS/DHL/DPD/FedEx delivery and some sort of bespoke, decadent billionaire-level white-glove bull****?

If someone who works for you does a bad job, you have a conversation with them, no?

If Apple is using a supplier who is doing a bad job (a) I suspect they want to know about it and (b) I suspect they want to do something about it.

There is nothing special about the Hermes Apple Watch. It is exactly the same as the regular stainless steel AW. Except it has Hermes etched on it and has different software that allows different faces.

Yet here we all are paying a premium for it. Sure the leather bands are better than anything Apple produces. But now we’re all transitioning to plastic and cloth. Or whatever.

What exactly are we paying for? The regular plastic sports bands are £49. The Kilim has a fancy mechanism that costs pennies to make. And the strap is a bit fancier and says Hermes on it. For an additional £250.

I think I’m entitled to expect a slightly better delivery experience than “we literally don’t care”.

We teach people how to treat us. If you’re fine with shoddy service then shoddy service is what you’re going to get.

Apple and LVMH are as successful as they are because they typically give outstanding service. I think they want to know if a supplier lets them down.

Drivers screw up. Sure. But there are good ways to deal with that and bad ways. DPD chose a bad way.

You can be very sure that if a significant amount of folks have a bad experience with a specific courier Apple uses (and tell Apple about it), Apple will talk to that courier. But not if it is just a single (or rare) unfortunate event.

Edit: this is not about you in particular, but not everything „costs pennies to make“. If it was so, third-party copies of Apple bands would be identical to OEM ones, which they are certainly not.

Edit 2: and what about the „middle ground service“? Does a thing like that exist? Or do you think if Apple eliminated DPD that UPS/DHL/FedEx do not also have the odd lazy driver?

It’s becoming weekly at this point. Honestly, I don’t think we’ll see a lug redesign anyways, even if they do a new watch. So lots of questions about something that has a small probability of happening.
Every massive new expensive lineup of bands makes it hard for apple to create a cut-off point. Too bad for all those people who want the sliver of extra battery afforded by the rumored magnetic band attachment.

Apple uses very premium shipping boxes for their products.
Apple uses cardboard.

(And I keep my Apple Watch Series boxes as I resell my watch case on eBay each year. Having the original shipping box increases the final price from my experience of selling 8 generations.)
Product boxes are different. We're talking shipping boxes. You can pack a band in a $50 cardboard box for all I care, it's still getting thrown away.

They all use cardboard. I think hes talking about the "presentation" of the cardboard? You pull the little tab and it opens up like a present lol.

Can’t you just go to a Hermes store instead to see it and if you want to buy it.

There isn’t one anywhere near me.

I have listened to the responses I’ve got and accept that I might have been, erm, overzealous.

I did give Apple some feedback — they asked for it — but I did also re-order the band.

Some premium brands are expensive because they use premium materials and their products are genuinely more expensive to make and they make a better product.

My suspicion — based on no evidence — is that the profit margin on the Kilim bands is pretty high.

Ok, so got the Kilim Orange band I ordered last week, skeptically so. But man does the rubber (combined with the deloyment buckle) has heft and quality. Probably the best rubber I’ve ever seen. The band is hefty for a rubber/sporty band but it is definitely comfortable. Being the only deployment buckle I’ve ever tried, I have to say I’m a fan of the deployment buckle. Truly impressed how effortlessly the watch goes on with the deployment buckle, always thought it was a gimmick but I can appreciate it now!

I have 14 d to decide but so far leaning towards keeping it, I do love the design and the quality and the ring of “H”’s that run across as the main pattern.

Also, the Kilim band has a rugged look to it that goes well with the rugged look of the Apple Watch Ultra, it actually suits it better than the simple/smaller appearing regular sports band! I also ordered a Navy Kilim from Apple that should be delivered in Nov, so will wait on that. But if Navy has similar pizzaz as I’m seeing with the orange, but just a more subdued option that may match night outfits more, that may be a keeper too…sigh. Wife not going to be happy w/ this new Hermes pickup.

I also attached a pic of the Orange Kilim next to the band that really made me a fan of wearing orange! The Kilim orange is denifitniely a bit lighter shade than the jumping band, but still very attractive as an Hermes Orange.

I’ve been similarly on the fence about the Kilim on the basis of this forum, so your post is… helpful? Depending on how I look at things?

Also an Ultra wearer, also felt like the chunkier appearance would go well with my watch. I own a handful of Hermes bands - a few leathers and two jumpings (which are amongst my most-worn bands, especially the Kraft/Orange), but I haven’t paid full price for any of them. So the idea of paying more for the Kilim than I did for, for instance, my Noir deployment leather is hard to take.

That said, everyone here is very convincing about it and I would definitely wear it more often than I do my leather ones… especially coming into the Australian summer…

Agree with your assessment of the Kilim band. It’s why I bought them all and am wearing navy today!!!!

If it helps, great! I would recommend definitely trying it out yourself and see how it suits you. I agree, I’m still on the fence given the price though. I have sold nearly all my non-Hermes bands once I started collecting Hermes ones, given the non-Hermes ones just aren’t very unique, where regardless of the materials used, the Hermes ones do stand out in the crowd of what seems like everyone having an Apple Watch these days.

I definitely love my leather bands, and a big fan of leather in general! I cant say these Kilim bands are going to make me a fan of future rubber bands, just that they do appear to stand out and are very sturdy.

The 14d return policy from apple (once the orange came in stock) is what made me pull the trigger. Will try it for a few days and see if it appears to be worth it or better to return.

I feel the same except for the Apple Link Bracelet. By far the best watch band Apple makes and in my top 3 all time.

Working in an office setting all day with meetings and tons of stuff that can be done over emails, no band has ever received more attention than the silver link bracelet. Space black second.

I 100% agree that the Silver link bracelet is a staple! That is my oldest band I’ve had ever since Apple Watch series 0 and it is still my go to band for meetings, weddings, any other formal events…looks great even with the Ultra. Of all things, that band definitely appears timeless.

How were you able to get "HERMÈS PARIS" centered on 2 lines on the Ultra watch face?

I tried to find an Hermes face to use on my ultra and ended up finding the “Facer” app which had this as one of the selectable downloadable faces. The mechanism is likely how mikedop described it, just the app sets it for you. Closest thing I found to having an “Hermes” ultra.
