LOS ANGELES BABY!!
Hi everyone

I lucked out yesterday!!

I decided to cancel my series for order that was the gold stainless steel with the gold band I decided to get the Hermes edition AW 4. I was trying to place my order on their website since they had them in stock, and their two step bank verification process kept rejecting my card because I was doing it from my iPad. And just for the record I had a zero balance on that credit card so it wasn’t that I didn’t have enough available credit.

So then I was going to see if I can get it at the Hermes local boutique because Apple wasn’t shipping it for like a month and a half because I decided to get the indigo Swift model. Last year I purchased the Ebene barenia deployment Buckle AW series 3 and I’m a big fan of the deployment buckle. So if I couldn’t get it in store at the local Hermes boutique I was just going to order it on Apple‘s website.

I decided to check stock here in Apple store in Los Angeles and lo and behold like around 830am and they had it at The Grove. Only the Grove and the 3rd St., Promenade carry the Hermes edition watches, but I think the third street promenade location is still under construction and is closed presently. My dilemma was that my iPhone XS 10 max was not delivered on Friday as it did not make it’s connecting plane from Kentucky to Los Angeles so I had to wait at home for that to be delivered and I didn’t know what time to do my pick up window to get the watch. I had waited all at home all Friday morning only to find out that my phone wasn’t being delivered as it didn’t make its connector flight.

Well it just so happened my housekeeper came yesterday and I had her on the lookout to listen for the doorbell for the UPS man. I flew off to the Grove to pick up my new addition to my family the indigo blue 44 mm. Wasn’t till I left the store with my purchase in hand, that I found out they also had a clown face in stock. I just never bothered to check for it because I had decided that I would get the indigo blue. I feel series 4 is not as thick as the series 3 and it feels lighter. I also love the larger size I had the 42 mm before but I can definitely see the increase in the screen real estate on this one.

I came home and set up my new phone paired my new watch and I love it. I don’t know which toy to play with first. I sold my Hermes Apple series 3 but I sold it without the deployment buckle because I wanted to keep that for my new series 4. So I slapped it on there and I love it it fits perfectly!!!!

I am going to pick up the blue horizon silicone because that looks like a really nice combo with the clown face and I’m very satisfied with the two leather bands that I have in the indigo Swift and Ebene barenia deployment buckle!!!

Anyways for those people in Los Angeles that I’m looking to purchase it check out the grove location because they had stock when there are no other stores around in LA area.

It’s only Day 2, and I have been babying my watch and strap, but the threading on my double tour looks like it is slightly fraying almost across the entire length of the stitching. Is this normal?

Did you buy it from apple? I would return it and get a refund and buy a new one.

I did and would certainly seek a return, but if all their straps fray in this manner I’m reconsidering paying a premium for the Hermès ones as it doesn’t really inspire confidence in the longevity of the straps :(

If anyone wants my 42mm colvert calf leather band let me know. Don’t need the extra one and will help me get a series 4 Hermes :)

Awesome! Where do I find the message? Lol
The top right hand corner of your screen, you’ll see an envelope and a flag. You’ll want the envelope for messages;)

My single tour’s threading does that too but I think it’s just one of those handmade qualities of the strap. It’s not fraying, more like a few strands that hung back when being saddle stitched. I’ve worn mine all over the place and never had a thread break.

Both my Fauve Barenia and Indigo Swift bands are like that in places but they have been fine. I don't think it's anything to worry about.

For me, I say last hole to mean the one to make it smallest around.

I’ve found the double tours work well. Since I have the clown strap, I doubt I’d go for the double in orange. I really want that single to work. Maybe if it allows for extra holes? If you have a store nearby, do let me know.

What really works well for smaller wrists is the Modern Buckle. I have that coming in red on Monday along with the Lavender Grey Sport Band. Oh and if you like the link band, it’s fantastic. I tried almost every knockoff available and none would convert to a small enough size but the Apple. It’s actually worth the price imo.

Yep also a huge fan of modern buckles here! Got the forest green and peony pink coming in a few weeks :) i tried the pink band a few years back but even after removing all links it was still very loose on me somehow!

Think I’m going to order the single loop and then try and get another hole added in, sounds like Hermes do it if you manage to find a store!

I’m sort of torn. I had the Hermès series 3, really liked the Hermès faces, and now I LOVE the new two-color faces. I’d ordered a 40mm non-Hermès Series 4, but missed the faces so much I went to the Apple Store yesterday and grabbed a 44mm in the dark indigo band. Now, that size feels a bit large to me since I’m used to 38 (and now 40), but the Hermès band selection in the smaller size is just so much more limited this year (no dark blue or black in single tour!).

I want to stick with Hermès, but honestly not sure if the 44mm is too big on my wrist. Here’s the 44mm alongside the 40mm (with my old Hermès strap put on it). Thoughts? (EDIT: the first one, with screen on, is the 44mm, the second with the screen off is the 40mm.)

  1. It actually looks quite good in the off mode, very proportioned but then when lit, does seem a bit big and damn that bezel isn't the edge to edge I was hoping for. I really wanted the double tour 40 clown but I'm 6'3 and thought the 44 would be better especially with single bands, but your photo gives me pause. Overall though it looks good, how is the accessibility versus the 38mm, decidedly better or not that much?

Oops, probably wasn’t clear enough in my post. The one with the screen on is the 44mm, the one with it turned off is the 40mm.

IMO, THE 38 might look a little better but by no means does the 44 look bad. And honestly, other than the double tours, the best bands are for the 44. Not to mention getting the extra screen real estate and battery life.

I’d keep the 44.

How’s the text legibility on the Infograph corner complications on the 40mm? On my 44mm it’s already pretty small.
Remember we used to be 38 so the larger size is appreciated. But I can’t do a quick glance for corner info; it takes a moment to read. Originally I wanted the 44 but no way did the bands fit and it was wider than my wrist. I envy you guys/gals.

I didn’t have trouble reading the small text on the Infograph corners on the 40mm, though sure it’s just a BIT more legible on the 44mm. I wouldn’t say that alone is a deal breaker (or maker), at least for me. In fact, sometimes content on the 44mm display feels TOO big to me, which I realize is a weird thing to say, but there you go.

One thing I’ve noticed, and I’m sure others have mentioned this plenty on these threads, is that the watches always look bigger when photographed with the iPhone camera. No doubt the focal length of the lens is contributing. Looking at the two images I posted above, BOTH watches look bigger in the photos than in real life.

I’m gonna keep living with the 44mm a bit longer to see how it goes. Right now I see the 44mm as just SLIGHTLY too big on me, and the 40mm just SLIGHTLY too small. Haha. One thing I AM decided on is I’m sticking with Hermès for this generation. Those faces are just too good. Now, there are better bands in the 44mm line for me, so that may be a deciding factor ...

So, I'm thinking of picking up one of the double tours in swift leather. I love the colorways and watch face (although I really wish they didn't feel the need to put Hermes branding in the center). The only thing stopping me is that I've had leather bands before for watches, and from experience they only last about 1-2 years at the utmost before they start getting natty or smelly if you wear them daily.

Has anyone used some kind of heavy-duty protective/waterproofing coating on their bands and has trip reports? It would be nice not to have to baby the watch or be terrified of drops of water when washing hands.
