In my opinion the aluminum looks and feels cheap. The screen scratches almost immediately even if you are super careful.

The stainless is more durable, classier, and works with almost any band. The screen is almost impossible to scratch (it will if you are hard enough on it), but it’s difficult. The stainless watch will get surface scratches but those can be buffed out if you want to. I think the surface scratches look great personally...

I wouldn’t even consider the aluminum watch but that’s just me.

I don't agree with you about how easily aluminum face scratches. I had three aluminum watches and only one of them developed a small scratch. The other two were pristine when I sold them. I agree the stainless looks classier, which is one reason I now have ss

I was also surprised and impressed by durability of my Alum S3. perfect when sold and replaced with Hermes SS S4 just because I could this time.

Same. Makes me not use the orange Hermès strap as much as I’d like. Maybe I’ll start doing a two tone or something so I can use a S/M sport band

Also looking at doing the same, what about getting the Apricot Apple Sport band is it not quite close to the Hermes Orange.I did manage to punch an extra hole in the Hermes band but the overlap is now just reaching the edge of the watch.

Will try wearing it over the weekend and see how comfortable it is and if the fit is OK as could only punch one hole due to the overlap length. But as already mentioned by so many here we shouldn't really have to do this, both Hermes watch sizes should come with the 3 piece set up like the Apple bands.

I picked up a S4 44mm Fauve Barenia deployment over the weekend but need to return it now. One of the straps lugs are not right. It rattles so bad when I get haptic alerts. Sounds really bad. Sucks that there isn't any stock right now so I can't exchange it.

Anyone else have this? The strap is perfect but the apple lug is defective. At least it clicks and locks in. Just has way too much play.

LOS ANGELES BABY!!
Hermes has stock on them. Return it to Apple and buy directly from them. If you know that this is what you want, then I would get it from Hermes. I bought my series 3 from them with no issues and am waiting on delivery of my clown strap on Monday from them. If something is defective with that purchase they will replace it for you. If you can order for them I wouldn’t delay because they have been selling their watches out pretty much the same day they list them on their website. If they’re on the website that means they have them in stock and are ready to be shipped

Yeah I just checked and will do that. They didn't have any this past weekend when I checked. Might call the local Hermes store in Miami as they may have stock as well if the online store sells out.

Yes they were out of the watches all weekend. Just added them today. I love my deployment buckle. Good choice and comgrats.

Finally picked up my watch yesterday, and went straight ahead with my saddle soaping on the new band. As promised, I'm attaching some before/during/after pics. I do think the band got a shade or two darker post-soaping, but it's very much to my liking, and as you can see from the comparison with 20 year old Barenia, it's still got a loooooong way to go before it's the deep russet of fully-patinaed Barenia.

Before:

With soap applied. I used a soft wet sponge to pick up the soap, applied it, snapped this quick pic and then rinsed right off and dabbed with a soft cloth and let dry overnight.

After:

And next to much older Barenia:

I intend to wear this watch strap with total abandon and will post again if I encounter any water spot issues like Boardiesboi has experienced. We'll see if perhaps the soaping helps with that.

Thanks for the pix. Definitely a touch darker after (though I guess that perceived difference could be due to camera, lighting, etc.)

I look forward to seeing how it holds up to your abandon!

Looks great! I plan to do the same once I return my current watch due to a bad lug. I am still 60/40 if I get the Fauve Barenia deployment again or go with the Ebene Barenia deployment. I think the Fauve Barenia with years of patina is the way to go.

Thanks for this! It looks lush!

Your strap somehow looks thicker and sturdier than the fauve barenia that I have. Mine seems flimsy and thin in comparison. It also hasn’t aged well around the hole where I use the most (leather is fraying).

I wish I knew about this soap when I first got mine.

Yours actually looks gorgeous to me! Rich beautiful color.

Funny you say that about flimsiness— my first thought when I pulled the strap out was that it seemed a bit anemic. Now that it’s attached to the watch and around my wrist it feels luxurious, but my first impression was definitely: “Oh. Is that it?”

Anemic hahaha that’s actually quite a good description.

I suppose all leather straps will fray at the hole where it’s most used.

I quite like the darkened colour of mine. It’s not even though - you can see areas of lighter colour where the two small hoops sit

One of the benefits of the deployment buckle is that it eliminates this. Only downside I see is that if apple ever releases the AirPower you can't use it with the deployment strap.

Your post made me chuckle, because I had the exact same thought when I opened the box containing a Constance Belt (42mm wide) Strap I'd been eagerly looking for, for sometime not so long ago. It is made out of Fauve Tadelakt Leather on one side, and Craie Epsom on the reverse. I had been looking for that color combo in the 42mm wide strap, in my size for about a year. Perhaps it was the anticipation of finally fulfilling my desire, or whatnot, but when I opened the box, lifted it out, and felt how light, and flimsy it was compared to all my other straps, I thought, "Really?! Is that all?!" Sometimes the mind builds higher expectations than get fulfilled :)

By the way, I love your bag. The color is wonderful, and is quite similar to how my Fauve Barenia items have developed in patina. I think the cuff band for the original Hermès Apple Watch that I have most closely matches the patina of your bag. I'll dig it out tomorrow, and post a photo.

I wanted that band so badly but my wrists are too small for it.

I got a replica on the way though :D

I fully understand. When I'm in jeans, and casual sweaters, etc., that is my go to band for my Apple Watch. I'm glad you were able to find an aftermarket one that will work for you. I'm often dismayed by Apple/Hermès and their decisions not to offer more size options. The world is filled with such varied bodies, their one size fits all/most just doesn't fly for me. The cuff band, for instance, should have been offered in a smaller size for people such as yourself, who can't wear the size that was offered.

Could finally order a fauve barenia. No more deployment for me. Have a new one left from Series 3 but still use Series 0 strap which aged very well :)

Here is a photo of my well-worn cuff band from years ago. It’s been through rain, sweaty walks on the beach, and all sorts of environments, yet it still looks pretty darn good. It’s a testament to how well fauve barenia holds up when cleaned properly, and cared for.

It's absolutely beautiful! There is just something so special about saddle leathers.

I would love to see a photo of this band style being worn if you have the time and inclination. I've eyed them on eBay (although none as uniformly and nicely patinated as yours), but it's so hard to tell what type of wrist it might flatter.
