Tried it for the first couple of days but found it depressing/dull to look at so have reverted to normal.

Cannot see what all the fuss is about.

By the way I don't take my phone to bed so have no use for it there.

However it is available should I ever want it.

Phone (XR) seems much the same after the update after finding out where odds and ends have moved to.

OK, get the defibrillators ready ... I don't like and don't use dark mode.

Don't use it on my iOS 13 phone, don't use it on my Catalina laptop.

I do use Night Shift (the stolen-from-f.lux thing) on both, and love it.

I’d use it if they forced keyboard to be black even in apps that don’t have dark mode. Makes entirely no sense to leave the keyboard gray. Then it’s black. Then it’s gray. Then it’s back to black.

I don’t even care about the interface of non-supported apps being lighter, I get that and it makes sense. But the lack of a consistent keyboard appearance is the deal-breaker for me. Very poor implementation / design choice to make, IMO.

looks quite rough and unfinished... who really likes e.g. message app in a dark mode as it is now? Or files app in a dark mode.. messy!

i quess they only knew a colour called black. and it should be called ”black mode”. but again, the ”dark” mode in macos is such a carbage too so i didnt expect it to be any better on iphone - atleast i can use commands in terminal to make it use ”dark” mode only with menus in macos. Helps alot! but that is not possible with iphone.

I like it. It’s nothing special, and using an iPhone XR I won’t be saving any battery, but I find it easier on the eyes. I don’t think you need to use your phone in bed to be able to enjoy this advantage. Apart from just generally being easier to look at, I find it also makes me more focused on the content. Brighter colors attract your attention so having a dark background to white text makes it easier to read and focus on what you’re reading.

I activated it on the XR and both iPads, will be using it like this at least for a while. We can expect apps to add dark modes soon, as well.

I absolutely love it, it’s very easy on the eyes in the middle of the night or early in the morning. Plus, it just looks a lot better (imo).

how have you activated it on the iPads? I thought we had to wait until ipados?

The black is too much contrast and the bright white splash screens for my mail app kill it when the whole point is to be easy on the eyes. It feels blinding.

I know it’s hard to do across apps and pictures etc.

Dark mode is way easier on my eyes...but nothing worse then using it at night, opening a non-supporting app and being blinded by the light. Can’t wait till more apps start supporting it

What are your night shift settings?

Trying it, again, as I did on my MAC. As I said in another thread I find Maps almost impossible to use in dark mode - looking something up and finding and looking at local streets to find. I wish there was the ability to turn off Dark Mode for a specific application - on by default but ability to turn off for maps, for instance.

You could add dark mode to control centre and when you have maps open swipe down the control centre sheet and tap on dark mode to turn it off.

i like it very much. now... but not at first...

but i should also say however, for the past year, in so many forums, so many fans/posters were so heavily looking to it that i tried it a few times. but thought it looked terrible and i didn't like the aesthetics and my eyes couldn't get used to it.
but now, i have it set to turn on automatically from sunset to sunrise.
and i really love it.
so so so much better (and less disruptive to your partner).

i went through the same thing with the function of being able to make the display a "warm" tinge through Night Shift.
but i decided to turn that function on from sunset to sunrise, since it was reportedly better for your eyes.
and it turns out that i don't recognize the warm shade look now. it looks natural. and it is much much better for my eyes in a less bright environment. and some days i even manually turn it on earlier.

i presume that macOS Catalina will have Dark Mode able to be turned on according to a schedule.
and am looking forward to it.

in iOS 13 there is also a Control Center icon that you just simply can click to turn on/off Dark Mode. so easy.

Dark Mode does exactly what I wanted it to do: reduce eye strain during evening. I never hoped it would be a daytime alternative to light mode.

What baffles me is that so many major apps weren't ready for the iOS 13 launch (Facebook, Snapchat, Tinder, WhatsApp, Instagram, etc.).

I tried dark mode, forced myselft to use it, but it is too dark for me

I love how Discord app did dark mode, it's gray and I like that more than iPhone's dark mode

some text and colours are very hard to see and are strenuous to my eyes

I do like it. Easier on the eyes, especially at night (obviously). That being said though...I don't think it was worth all the hype and people getting so disappointed when they didn't get it over the last few years. It's nice, but nothing that I find worth getting so hyped up for. I'm sure I'll find myself alternating between light and dark as the "newness" wears off.
