Zach from Jerryrig said he used his shirt to clean off the back , like normal, and it left a scratch :eek:

I'm guessing those clear skins will be the way to go. And be crazy careful on that first gentle wipe with a soft cloth :)

Naked, with Applecare+ coverage and OCD turned off. Both the 6 and 6s were too slippery for me to use naked, but the Jet Black is grippy enough for me to want to risk it. It is the last version of this design, so I'm in a IDGAF mood this time

Yep. I'm on the apple upgrade program. I'll enjoy it for a year then return it next year. I used to be a OCD but now I don't care.

Hello Guys,

I'm Steve from Nanostate, the makers of Onyx the nanotechnology coating for the jet black.

The Onyx coating will be fine for light users, if your a heavy or rough user then we would not recommend it. We have received a lot of emails from people who think the product is bullet proof, Onyx is limited to what it can do, if you get a key and scratch hard then it will penetrate the coating or if you dig a coin in to the surface it will do the same. This product is really for people who take care of there devices.

For the more rugged user we have Alien Skin which is a Nano film like no others on the market, it's super clear and almost invisible and can only be seen on close inspection, from our tests the gloss finish is not effected once the film is applied.

I would love to answer any questions people have if it's about our products or others as protective surfaces is my field.
I would like the coupon code. I'm going to try your product. Thanks!

How does you product stop micro scratches? Give us some details.

The coating creates a hard invisible protective barrier, as in the post @cmfilms it won’t stop all micro scratches if it’s sand type material, sand has quartz in it and it’s very abrasive.

@Texxy
I am doing this with BestSkinsEver. Xtremeguard to me was never that good.

These skins are PET from China ours is a PU nanotechnology film from Germany top coated with our own technology for self healing also other features are shock resistance, anti yellow, and much much more. Please check out the features of Alien skin against these products and you will see ours are superior quality and have a lifetime guarantee to back it up, I guarantee you if you use Alien Skin you will see a massive difference. The gloss finish on the iPhone 7 jet black is not effected by the skin. (the coupon is below)

@mandurz
what about for the matte black. Would you recommend onyx? Or the liquid sapphire. I was thinking in one of these or the alien skin. I am very interested in your products

We have a product called Titanium which is for Anodised finishes, depending on how you treat your device would depend on the products you would choose. Our products are not wonder products some have limitations on what they can do. If you want total protection then Alien Skin is the best option. For example I have the iPhone 6s+ and used titanium I have 0 scratches on the back of the phone but I have dents on the corners where I’ve dropped the phone where is if I had used Alien Skin they would of been protected. So it’s swings and roundabouts.

@iphone4life6901
I have a question for you. When applying onyx to my jet black 7, do I need to avoid getting this coating over the camera lens and flash? Will it make a difference?

Hello and thanks for ordering with us and starting the post on the other thread about onyx.

You don’t need to worry about that as it will only stock to the surface of phone, not on glass or plastic, if you do get it on there just wipe it and it will be fine.

@Marco123

From experience a case is inadequate since particles accumulate in-between and scratch the phone. Skin seems best with thin bumper case.

Already ordered my Onyx.

Curious. Why would you need Onyx and the alien skin on back?

Was wondering the same thing.
Also curious about the answer to this, I thought Onyx was the part that goes on back, and Liquid sapphire when on the screen, so wouldn't you use those together?

EDIT - Just saw this on their website: "If you want double protection you can apply Onyx first then Alien Skin."

Interested in the Onyx and Alien Skin on the jet black but there are no pictures or videos... not even any reviews online of the products on other phones except for the installation videos. I really want to see how it looks before I drop all that money on it.

Hey, looking at the nanostate US website, Onyx is not listed on there. Should I just order from the nanostate.co website which shows UK prices and have it shipped here or should I be ordering from somewhere else?

Will use this case as a start
a70f0d4f79f09def3f4cc2ac5a1bdb23.jpg
I got that case too and the spigen tempered glass 2 pack. I am looking for a skin just for the back. You won't see it in the case but it will prevent dust from running up against the phone. Car wax sounds interesting.

Hi Mike, if you read through the posts some people were concerned about micro scratches, with some types of sand it contains quartz and this can give Onyx micro scratches. So lets say you are a builder for example there is a very good chance you would come in to contact with that, or if you were at the beach etc… Onyx is not a wonder product and has it’s limitation, so in to response of those worries I offered a coupon where people can get the back piece for free as a Mac Rumours member, so that way it’s not something that concerns them.

All our products have videos, It will be done shortly, it’s to early for any independent reviews people are still waiting to get hold of the phones !

It won’t be in the USA yet, we are a UK company and everything starts from here, if it goes well then other distributors will take it on.

We received 100's of emails asking, can we scratch it with a knife, can we scrape keys down it, if I drop it is it ok
so we have to cover all these angles, some people don't read the information that is already written, we update what we feel is important for people to know that we might of missed, for example : Is it fireproof if my phone falls in a fire? And that was a serious question.

Liquid sapphire is a liquid screen protector and Onyx is for the back of the iPhone 7 jet black only, if it's a normal anodised finish you will need Titanium.

It may seem strange that you think well why would you need it, but our orders tell a different story, 62% of people for the iPhone 6 & 6s purchased Titanium, Liquid Sapphire and Alien Skin all together, after poking around we found that they want a guarantee that the device will be like brand new in all incidents bar getting hit by a truck and it beats having an ugly case stuck on the phone. Lets face it why would you do that on the jet black it looks awesome and thats why apple made it like that.

My suggestion was maybe try using Clear Coat Plasti-Dip? You can peel and reapply after any scuffs.

I ordered the Onyx and I ended up getting a matte black instead of jet black. Can I still use the Onyx on the matte black?
