I gave it a 9. It's definitely more comfortable to use than the 12.9 inch, despite only playing with it for 5 minutes at an Apple Store.

Also, the smaller Smart Keyboard is a lot better than I was expecting it to be. The keys are well spaced out and it only took me a few minutes to get used to it without making any errors. In fact, I typed this entire post on my Smart Keyboard faster than I would on a touchscreen display.

I'm iffy about the keyboard. What are your thoughts?

Thank you for this information. I just purchased Notability and it is exactly what I was looking for since getting my iPad pro 9.7 yesterday.
If you have any questions, I'll help if I can.

I had concerns that it wouldn't be as good as the 12.9 inch keyboard, but it's turned out to be the best keyboard I've ever used on a 9.7 inch iPad. It takes a few minutes to get used to though, but that's the case for most keyboards. They have demos at the Apple Store also.

You're missing something. It's there.

Am I missing something, or is lock rotation gone? This is a major problem when reading in bed!
The hardware mute/lock switch has been gone since the Air 2. That's one of the reasons I was vacillating on an Air 2 purchase.

I'm coming from the iPad Air 2. The Pro is snappier, for sure. Love that. Love the screen tech (True Tone). Love being able to FINALLY take hand-written notes on the iPad! Nice to have 128GB of storage. Overall I'm happy with the upgrade. Sold my Air 2 64GB for $400...so the upgrade wasn't as tough to swallow. I'd say on a 1-10 scale, I'm a 7.5-8. I'm not jumping for joy, but it's a nice upgrade.
What about USB 2.0?

I had a bunch of a unrelated technical issues setting up the iPad Pro yesterday, so I haven't had much time to enjoy it yet.

A few early observations:

Writing with the pencil is really nice in the Notes app (better than one note). I think it's going to be a great tool for design applications, photo editing & audio mixing tasks that benefit from greater precision, and helping me learn how to draw a little better (because I'm terrible).

I don't feel like the speakers have more bass than my Air 2.. and I'm not sure if I prefer the way music sounds on them.. but the four speaker setup definitely provides a decent volume boost and a much more immersive listening experience. They shouldn't disappoint anyone who enjoys watching movies on their iPad (and probably gaming as well).

True Tone warms things up and makes colors look richer. It's a nice feature and I've been keeping it on.

My fingerprints still build up on the display fairly quick, but it is brighter and less reflective.

So after inspecting mine a bit more, I do have a bit of an issue that will probably result in an exchange. I made sure there were no dead pixels, and no discoloration on the screen anywhere... but I found what looks like a delamination on the black outer rim of the screen. It kind of looks like a greasy mark that won't go away. It might not bother me using it, but it would definitely hurt resale of the device, and GD it, if I'm paying $700-some dollars for something brand new, it may as well look and feel brand new the day I get it. Time to set an appointment.

I have a few marks on my screen too.. wondering if I should do the same.

Does the sound vibrate the screen like it did in the Air 2???
I don't understand why some can't just give you a direct answer instead of rambling on about Apple and physics, basically, yes the iPad still retains the vibrations from the Air 2, if worse because now there's four! But god damn they're good.

I can't decided whether to upgrade my ipad 3 to this 9.7 ipad pro. I kinda feel it's the new ipad 3 and I don't want to get burned again.

I disagree, it's controllable by volume...

The iPP97's speaker vibration behavior is normal, unlike the Air 2.

The Air 2 felt like it had a subwoofer mechanically attached to the screen at any volume level above minimum.

The iPP97 seems to project sound out from the speakers, not into the screen. There's a lot more sound power in the new model and yes, you can get the screen moving at high volume. But it behaves as you'd expect, you can control it with the volume.

So vibration is in no way a deal breaker for me with this model. And I was one who railed against the Air 2's implementation. If I don't keep the iPP97 it'll be more above size vs Mini 4 and not a vibration issue.

Upgraded from a 64GB iPad 3 to a 128GB Space Grey iPad Pro 9.7 and I love it so far. I also got the Apple Rear Cover and Smart Cover in Space Grey and although initially I really wanted a Black One Piece leather Cover like they have for the Air 2 I'm really starting to like the Soft Silicone on the new cover. Overall I'm very pleased.

So many goodies you won't regret if you upgrade. Apple won't be updating this new iPad Pro anytime soon.

If you want to be sure, wait another 6 months and see if you can get a promo/discount on BF or close to Xmas

Aside from faster, can you expand on "much much better"? What exactly is obviously much much better than the Air 2? Because I played with the Pro briefly at Best Buy today and didn't come away with a single compelling reason to upgrade my Air 2, beyond it feeling a little snappier, and not by much.

My wife has an Air 2 and your right, the choice to upgrade from and Air 2 to the 9.7 Pro is a tough one unless the Pro has an upgrade you have to have i.e. Apple Pencil, 256GB etc... The Air 2 Rocks, in my case I still had an iPad 3 and apple dropped the Air 2 with 128GB so I went with the 9.7 Pro. Either Tablet is excellent IMHO

Nice one.

Glad you like it.

Similar boat to me: I upgraded from a 64GB iPad 4 to a 128GB iPP in Silver.

I also got the Silicone Case & Smart cover, but in Midnight Blue. I really like the Stone colour, but that will look filthy after a bit of use.

I've had a Smart Case in grey on my iPad 4 since day one, and it has been great.

What apps have you put on it, thus far?

The speakers are great, right!?

The official YouTube app is horrible.

Download Tubex ... it's the best YouTube client.

Not only does PIP work with it, but it also has on-screen volume controls!

I hate having to reach for the volume buttons when viewing video ...
The official youtube has split screen functionality which I prefer...does tubex have it?

Found some more marks on my display this morning. Two nearly identical circular dots in the corners. This one is definitely getting exchanged.

The 9.7 is a lot snappier than my old Air 2. I notice most playing Infinity Blade and XCom. The 9.7 chews through those games like nothing. The Air 2 was no slouch, but this 9.7 really kicks. I'm glad I upgraded.
