Switching to the 4GB Shared Data plan as soon as my company figures out how they are going to let us expense our phones, bc now they pay for voice, txt, and my data plan, going forward it will be tricky.

Shared Data will be $70.00 for 4GB
3X$40=$120.00

So total will be $190 - FAN = 157.70 + Taxes $9.00 =$166.70

Company says they will pay up to $140.00 so Balance will be $26.70 roughly

Man isn't it crazy that is like a car payment? I had $250.00 before my older son left my plan and I thought that was a lot, you are in the same situation as my brother in-law, they have 5 smart phones at $40 per is $200.00 and another $100 for their data plan, so he is at $300.00 for 5 phones?

I think the carriers need to lower the cost of the plans, we all know they make a ton of money, but what is driving their costs up is the iPhone, to me I do not see where they even make money because every 2 years they give you a discounted price, just doesn't seem like it is worth the headache for them, and they pass it on to us.

Right now they spread the $450 per iPhone subsidy out over a 2 year contract @ $18.75 per phone per month.

T-Mobile and Walmart/Straight Talk are taking the lead by separating the service cost from the phone purchase cost. The key piece is that they offer financing for the phone to offset the sticker shock.

AT&T and Verizon are just pushing people to their prepaid MVNOs who want a lower monthly bill and are willing to deal with the device cost separately.

I am on China Unicom using 2 iPhone 5s with my wife.

We both are on the same plan,

¥96 monthly voice/data bill
- ¥36 rebate
+ ¥30 data addon = ¥90 x2 = ¥180 per month

which is $28.8 for both of us.

We each get 240 Minutes, 10 text messages (we use imessage anyways), and 800mb of data.

Its not much, but more than enough for us and dirt cheap to boot.

Charges per month

Unlimited texts/mms

They give you a subsidized phone. They lost few hundred at one time but in a long run they earn thousand.

Unlimited personal hotspot.
£50 or $75 USD for Iphone 5.

Some UK folks with the seemingly cheap deals often forget to mention that they had to buy the iPhone outright for £529 or so, which over two years is over an additional £20 per month on top of what they're paying for the tariff.

Just saying.

In the US, there's still an upfront cost for the newer iPhones. The standard subsidy for an iPhone here is $450, or $18.75 per month over 2 years.

Yeah I know, I am beginning to think it is not worth it to buy a phone every 18-24 months with a sub.

The problem is I have no other place to go where I live, basically it is AT&T or VZ that have decent service all the others stink. I could go to T-Mobile but their data rates are much slower and there is not much difference in the cost of the family plan, so I am sort of stuck with AT&T and I hate VZ left them will never go back.

I figure since I am staying with AT&T why not take the discount every 18 months for my plan, even though I get a new phone every 12 or 24 months, sometimes every year, but mostly every 2 years

Currently paying £10 per month on Tesco's (O2) 500 mins, 5000 texts and 1GB of data 30 day contract sim only, rather pay less a month and buy the phone sim free. If anyone knows any better deal please let me know :)

I did have to pay towards my handset sorry I didn't mention that. I paid 230 pounds so not quite as bad as your suggestion. Plus the question of the thread was 'how much is your monthly bill' rather than asking the price of individual handsets. :)

StraightTalk

My wife has her iPhone 4 on StraightTalk - $45 a month ($49.10 after taxes) gets "unlimited" data, minutes, and texts. I'm on a family plan (AT&T) with my parents and grown sister; my part is $35 a month for the line, my data, and my part of the texting plan. But I'm moving soon and I'm afraid I won't have AT&T signal where my new house is; might have to switch to our local CDMA carrier. :(

(1 iPhone 5)
450 minutes + unlimited nights & weekends
Unlimited Data
Unlimited Texting

On AT&T = $93/month

$30 a month

100min
Unlimited Messaging
Unlimited Data

Guess it pays to cash out up front, and get the non contracted iphone.
