Thank You!

followed the instructions and they worked perfectly on my JB iPhone 3G on 3.0.1. I can now send and receive MMS without going to 3.1. Thank you so much. :)

confirming benm tethering hack still works

Confirming that I updated to the 5.5 carrier file following instructions at the top of this thread and the benm tethering still works - I'm tethered now on my Windows 7 PC and have confirmed that IP traffic is actually going through the tethered connection.

iTunes 9.0.1
iPhone version 3.0.1
Carrier AT&T 5.5
Windows 7

using the easy benm Profile tethering hack still works fine. Again, it is actually working - I'm using it now. I'm not seeing any difference in how tethering works before / after installing the 5.5 carrier file.

Also confirmed that I have the ability to send MMS - although I haven't seen the message come through on the receiving phone yet, but that's AT&T's issue :).

Reset Network

I followed the instructions, rebooted and was still getting the red !. I verified that my carrier settings (settings>general>about) were 5.5. I then reset my network settings (settings>general>network>cellular data network> reset settings), then rebooted. MMS now works.

Not seeing “Cellular Data Network”, let alone “Reset Settings” Sure you’re on 5.5 and not 5.1?

I must be really dumb, but... :)

I download the file, it saves on my desktop as a zipped folder, so, I extract and save the extracted folder on my desktop. Then I run the cmd prompt, no problems there. Then I open itunes, shift/click update, change the file type, but here's where I have trouble.

I find the downloaded folder on my desktop, and open it, all it does is open the main folder revealing subfolders, the first of which is called Payload. Then I open that, it just keeps opening sub folders, until I end up with a group of files with different languages. Nothing I open actually installs the carrier file. I could swear I'm doing everything mentioned in the instructions.

Any suggestions? Thanks, Ari

Ok, once you save it, try NOT extracting it. and try using the file itself. (I'm thinking you might have your zip program set to open .ipcc files)

I tried that, but when I leave the folder intact, and zipped, which is the way it saves on my desktop, when I go to look for it in itunes, it doesn't show, it only shows once I extract it to an unzipped version of the folder. My computer is not an old one, so, it should be working pretty much the same way most PCs are. Any further ideas are most welcome! :)

Why would anyone install the 5.5 carrier and expect not to loose tethering?

I stayed on 5.0 and I have MMS and tethering.

Until someone comes up with a carrier 5.5 replacement...install 5.0 manually.

Yes you are doing something wrong. Majority of people in this thread have it working perfectly.

What exactly isn't working for you?

Anyone know if this will work in safe mode? I just plugged in my phone and it isn't showing up on the side bar.

Well, when you shift click the ipcc file in Itunes, and the ipcc is stored to the iphone, It doesn't look like it does anything. Then you have to reboot your iphone and you will see the difference.
