I cant get it to work on Vista, I get it to work in CMD but I cant change the file type when I hit shift and update, I only have the option to go with .ipsw...any suggestions?

This work great for 3gs on OSX. Also i used a ben something or other carrier file before this real one for tethering. And i still have tethering!

I followed the instructions for mac and it worked flawlessly.

*download the carrier
*run -( defaults write com.apple.iTunes carrier-testing -bool TRUE )- in terminal
*open itunes
*hold alt while selecting update
*select carrier file
*turn off phone
*turn on phone
*done.

IPCC file not selectable

I've followed all the instructions on OSX, but when I get to the point where it asks me to select a file, the IPCC file cannot be selected through the interface. It's greyed out. I'm pretty sure the command line when through okay, terminal said that the "Process completed successfully". So, is there a step I'm missing? Did the Terminal command not go through appropriately? Something else in my iTunes mucking it up? I mean MMS is not that important to me, but I want to know how to do it for my wife who would LOVE to send me nothing but picture messages all day. I'm on a jailbroken 3GS, would that have something to do with it?

Thanks in advance.

I'm on a jailbroken 3gs so that's definatly not your problem. Here's what I would try....

Try restarting itunes. if that doesnt fix it....

Try redoing the terminal command, then restart Itunes & Alt (option) click update. There should be a little box where you select the file type your looking for, set it to ipcc. then click on the .ipcc your trying to install.

correction to my earlier post... i just got it to work on vista

click start and type cmd in the search box if you cant find it anywhere else
click on cmd
copy and paste the instruction and it worked for me

I update to 5.5 from here and tried to enable tethering. The option was there, but when I plugged it in it disappeared. Thank god for benm, now I have tethering and MMS.

Anyone know of a hacked 5.5 ipcc with tethering?

Nope, still doesn't seem to fix it. I can't select file types through the Update menu, even after re running the code. I double checked the command, and made sure and put a space in front of it the second time, and all it did was open a new terminal window. So, I figure this ain't gonna go through. Sucks, but I'll live...

and you are holding the alt option key as you click update?

Yep. But when it asks me to select a file, the icon for the .ipcc is greyed out and unselectable, and there's no drop down menu to change the file type selection. So I'm a bit confused. It's almost as if iTunes 9.0.1 doesn't recognize the file type.

Instead of using the command option in terminal, I just typed it into the terminal window itself (no space at the front of the command line), and then restarted iTunes and it then was selectable. I'll have to see if it works... I'll keep ya posted.

Need some help guys! I followed insturctions, installed the carrier update fine, but when I am trying to send a MMS message, its just gives me a red exclamation point and never goes through? Any ideas on why and if I can fix this?

I was using the 5.0.ipcc and just downloaded and shift clicked update, selected the new 5.5 .ipcc file and it update fine WITHOUT typing ANYTHING into the Command line.

I think the majority of the problems are coming from people downloading the .zip file and unzipping it. You CANNOT unzip the file. You must download it as an .ipcc file and for windows users you may see ATT_US.ipcc.zip JUST REMOVE the .zip DO NOT unzip it. Not sure how the Mac guys do it but I can bet that some of those having the problem are unzipping the mac file as well.

Mine is working just fine, however, it did disable my tethering. I have PDANet so I am not concerned with that.

Hope that helps some of you.

P.S. Some of you may not have ACTIVE MMS packages...this is a must for it to work. After installing your 5.5 ipcc do a HARD RESET and send a regular MMS first then try with a small picture. NOT SOME high rez conglomeration. Remember the system is being taxed. I am using edge and it works just fine.

Just adding a little extra info hopefullyto get some help, I have a 3G jailbroken iphone running 3.0, I installed the carrier update fine following instructions, but when i try to send a MMS, just gives me exclamation point

i just updated and the "about" part says that 5.5 is installed but the little button to add pics in sms isnt even there. ive restarted and resprung multiple times. i have a theme installed that changes the little edge and wifi icons. do you think thats the reason?

Not sure if this will help anyone but 3.0.1 on vista. I did everything as outlined above and it didn't break my Benm hack for internet tethering. Am using it to post this message... :D

Also a slight modification you can type CMD into the search box on Vista to go straight to the prompt, instead of typing run.

MMS is working in the Tulsa, OK area

I finally got home and was able to install the carrier update on my phone. The teathering option showed up also out of the blue. I have a jailbroken 3GS with 3.0.1 firmware. I'm on a PC with Vista x64. I followed the following instructions. Instead of typing in the command, I copied and pasted the command as instructed.

Let us know when you get MMS going..... I am not the original poster of this workaround, so I will not be able to troubleshoot the procedures.

Install MMS on jailbroken iPhone 3GS (3.0 - 3.0.1)

I can't seem to find the icon for Make it Mine. I went into cydia and it's installed so I went to spotlight search and it's not coming up at all. I haven't used the program since I changed the carrier name about a month and a half ago so I don't remember where it was exactly. I have categories and have folders for Settings and Apps. I'm pretty sure it was in one of those before but it's nowhere to be found now. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it in cydia and no luck. Anybody have any ideas?

Edit: Nevermind, I had to search for "MIM"

Hey guys, iPhone newbie here, just got mine the other day so I'm new to all of this and in need of some assistance. haha. I'm on a 3G v3.1 off of Tmobile. Here's what I tried. I downloaded the carrier file, ran the command, opened iTunes, held shift-update, selected the carrier file and clicked open. A window popped up saying it was updating the carrier file and then went away after a few seconds. I turned my phone on and off but no dice. I don't know what happened. I'm thinking maybe the update didn't finish or something of that nature. Can someone help me out?

**A thought came to mind that I did install the carrier file with internet explorer...I will get it with firefox and see if I can update again.
