HOW TO: Install Official MMS on Jailbroken iPhone 3G/3GS (3.0-3.0.1)

I update to 5.5 from here and tried to enable tethering. The option was there, but when I plugged it in it disappeared. Thank god for benm, now I have tethering and MMS.

Anyone know of a hacked 5.5 ipcc with tethering?

Unfortunately it's not that simple.

AT&T's has the ability to control your phone's tethering option through the Visual Voicemail server. This is what will allow them to turn it on for people who pay for it. Correctly define the visual voicemail server, and your tethering option will disappear as soon as you try to use it.

When you download the profile from benm.at, it incorrectly defines the voicemail apn as "wap.cingular". This breaks visual voicemail notifications, but also breaks AT&T's ability to shut your tethering off. For now that's going to remain the best method.

What we really need is a jailbreak app that forces tethering to be enabled regardless of the profile setting.

just wanted to say, works perfectly....

i dunno if anyone else did this...but when i first cut and paste the command line, i didnt copy the first " which messed up running it....noticed it and did it again with the " in the begining, works perfectly..

Now swirly MMS is acting weird....it shows up as there is a new message, but when i open it up, it says the message is NOT found...even though its in my stock SMS app.

I was making the same mistake. Working perfectly now.

make sure to hold the alt (option) key when you click update.

Running OS3.0, Jailbroken, 16GB White Iphone 3G, Logo is nothing more than the AT&T text between the bars and the wifi symbol. Nothing in Cydia to suggest that I have any other logo installed or something to remove. I have Winter board but no themes, I have SBSettings installed but deactivated all but the main toggles, no extras in the status bar. I had benM's tether hack and tried your first version and it didn't work. It installed 5.5(or so it said in the About page) but under Settings>General>Network> there was no Cellular Data options page. I do have the camera icon in MMS and it takes pics and wants to send but all I get is the red !. I've rebooted, Win Vista, running Itunes 9.0.1. I tried installing IPCC 5.1 and got the Celluar data page with settings from another forum but it still didn't work, nothing but red !. I just now tried the Stealth IPCC 6.0, and I get the Cellular Data page in Settings>General>Network and have the following settings for MMS

APN: wap.cingular
Username: (blank)
Password: (blank)
MMSC: mmsc.cingular.com
MMS Proxy 66.209.11.32
MMS Max Message Size: 614400
MMS UA Prof URL: (blank)

Still only get the red !

Oddly enough, while writing this post, I just now got a text message from ATT (a day late?) saying;

"AT&T Free Msg: Picture & video messaging (MMS) is now available for
iPhone. Txt, pic or video msgs you send/receive are included in your
msging plan and subject to the limits of your plan. To enable MMS,
connect iPhone to your computer and click "Check for Update" in
iTunes, then restart your iPhone."

I tried to send MMS after this message, using IPCC 6.0 and it didn't work

I did what the mssg said and of course it didn't do anything so I went and held Shift, then UPDATE and tried what I gather is the official IPCC 5.5 file from your OP and restarted the Iphone. When I do this, I lose the Cellular Data page again and still get the red ! when trying to send. What should I see between the bars and Wifi symbols? Why isn't the Cellular Data page showing up with 5.5? Do I have a bad Jail Break? I used RedSn0W .7 something right after it came out, shortly after the 3.0 OS came out.

I don't have BossPrefs installed, I do have Icy installed, but rarely ever use it. I also have Appulous from Hackulous installed and have installed hack App Store apps. I do have the 5 row Icon dock app installed. My winterboard settings are as follows,

No Docked Icon Lables
The Simpsons - Ha Ha (text message sound replacement)
Transparent Dock
Black navigation bars

All other options are not checked

I'm at a total loss at this point and if it wasn't for the fact that MMS isn't all THAT important to me, I'd be forced to restore and update to 3.1. As it stands now, unless there is something here thats obvious to someone else, I'll forget about MMS until the jailbreak for OS 3.1 and Windows is available.

I was just told to "reset all settings" not just "network settings" by a facebook user and now my MMS is working just fine.

Tried this and it didn't work for me, but it did rearrange all my freaking Icons.... grrrrrrr settled on IPCC 6.0 (the stealth model) because at least i get the Cellular Data page in Network settings. I'm starting to think this is an AT&T problem and some will just have to wait. So maybe we should mention where we are experiencing the problems? I'm in the Detroit Michigan metro area.

*** For Vista/Windows 7 users with the filename or directory error***

Here is a better fix than "try to copy/paste it again"....

-Navigate to your iTunes directory in windows explorer (usually C:\Program Files\iTunes)
-hold Shift and right click anywhere in the folder
-Select Open Command Window Here
-Type (without quotes) "itunes.exe /setPrefInt carrier-testing 1"
-follow the rest of the guide as normal

Well after I deleted my carrier logo in Cydia it worked.

BUT.. Now my sounds are all f'ed up. every sound is muffled. Typing, Lock, unlock, new message. sent, recieved. all ****ed. it sound like theyre underwater.

What does it show between the bars and the WiFi symbol now that you deleted your carrier logo? What program name or option in Cydia did you modify to delete the logo?

Hi, I have a jailbroken iphone. I did the hack introduced last week and installed the carrier update 5.0. My mms is working just fine. Does anyone know the different in 5.0 and 5.5? Should I install the att released 5.5?

I was wondering the same thing, as I installed the 5.1 patch earlier in the week and mms began working for me on Friday. This evening I noticed that I could not get tethering to work and my visual voicemail seemed to not be working properly. After installing the AT&T stealth carrier file my voicemail came to life with several new messages and I was able to tether.

I'm having the same problem. and i know its not an outage. i just installed the 5.5 carrier file on my dads jailbroken 3g 3.0 and it worked fine

I've seen people on the AT&T Facebook page mention that after calling AT&T Tech Support, AT&T had a different IMEI# or ICCID# recorded (located in the about page under Settings>General>About), different than the caller had on their phone, and after matching up these numbers, their MMS worked. I won't have time today to call, so I will personally goto an AT&T store by tomorrow to have them check this out. If anyone tries calling AT&T today and finds this to work for them, please post your results.

just did a fresh restore to 3.0.1 and updated the carrier file before i jailbroke and it still doesnt work..

I try downloading the 5.5 file but it is a zip file and cannot locate the correct file. Can someone help..Thanks

I've seen it reported that it was named incorrectly, if your zip file is named, ATT_US.ipcc.zip, just delete the .zip from the name and try installing it.
