The fact they struggled to even flesh out 10 minutes taking out smartband & vr says enough. If they can't get excited, why should we.

Ya. So much for HTC's tweet about how we haven't seen nothing yet. No, we saw it all. Shame.

The s6 is going to own the m9 in sales.

The first all-aluminum HTC One is now two years old. The lineage it began in 2013 has been successful in earning plaudits and sales, but the old formula of high-end design and materials can only work so long as it’s regularly refreshed with new ideas. HTC openly admits that it’s combining the strengths of 2013’s One M7 and 2014’s One M8 to create what it believes is the best One yet. But remixing the past is not a sign of innovation, and neither is the addition of a fast new processor just because it’s fast and new, or multiplying the megapixels of a camera that’s still not good enough.

HTC can do better. I want to see it do better.

Vlad from The Verge is correct esp with the part - "old formula of high-end design and materials can only work so long"...

Yeah, alot of people love great design esp Apple fans. I do too. But it can only work for so long until you realize its shortcomings in certain areas. I owned many beautiful phones before only to be disappointed later on by certain areas in performance. It is like trying to marry the most beautiful woman who shows her bad personality after the honeymoon. It might sound corny and cliché, but it is what inside that counts.

HTC One M9 = HTC One M7/M8 Remix?

Mixing the past is NOT innovation. Third time is not the charm here as the best smartphone will NOT come from HTC for 2015 unlike the freshness and critical acclaim in 2013. Now HTC is starting to get lazy with the incremental upgrades like Apple.

HTC really needed to knock it out of the ballpark this year. HUGELY disappointed in them with the M9. With the S6 announcement at the exact same event, the M9 looks like it should have never even arrived.

This is a cool looking case, and the M9 does still have a premium design, and nice feel in the hand I'm sure. I just want to know if this thing is a battery beast ? it does have a bigger battery than the M8, now being 2,900mAh, and still a 1080p screen. So hopefully the M9 is on par with like a OnePlus One battery stamina.

I personally prefer vanilla stock Android, but of any other UI, Sense does it best.

Thing is iPhone gets away with it because only Apple make iOS devices -'you don't have a choice of iOS device manufacturers.

Android market is far more competitive in that regard. There was a tangible difference between M7 & M8 that felt like evolution of an idea. M9 feels stuck - even if they had only made small changes to screen (dropped the HTC area) by extending it or doing something it would be better.

With M8 owners getting Sense 7 in the future - if camera hasn't improved in the M9 - is there any reason why a M8 owner would upgrade. Performance was never an issue with the M8 - only camera.

Wow I know I'm catching up in the news but early impressions from the verge about the camera says its still disappointing.

And wirh nearly the same design, HTC is going to hurt this year I predict.

Well said. And with Samsung's marketing push, the m9 will go largely unnoticed. The every day consumer will choose either apple or Samsung.

Funny thing is I bet a lot of people, when they thought of the HTC One, were thinking it (the M8) would be great, IF, they did something about that camera.
What we've got here is basically an M8 with better camera, but somehow the M8 look isn't so great anymore when you compare it to those renders or concepts that were floating around.
Those looked great, and now the M7,M8,M9 series looks a bit crappy in comparison.
But yeah, count me as disappointed/underwhelmed as well.

And if you ask me, they really deserve it, a new (better?) camera, processor and 1 Gig additional ram.

Oh and different color schemes

Sticking with the Iphone 6+, I'm not an Apple fanboy as you folks well know I have and had plenty of Androids.

I think most folks here were being cautiously optimistic with the HTC M9 but deep down knew what the outcome would be. I think most M8 owners would agree upgrades are incremental and not enough to throw one over the fence or go back to HTC if they had the M8 but eventually sold it and moved to something else.

BTW, with that battery size what is the weight of this smartphone?

If I had stock, I'd be selling it on this news.

Well, I'm slightly disappointed too, but I still think the M9 is better than the S6.

Touchwiz hasn't changed enough IMO. Both phones have 3GB RAM, but guess which one will have better multitasking?

I also think the M9 is better than the M8. Hey, it's got more RAM, more battery, the new Snapdragon 810, new camera... What more could they have added?

I do agree that design is repetitive though.

If they can fix the pre-release camera software then this phone is better than the S6 IMO. It even still has microSD while the Galaxy doesn't anymore.

Do I prefer glass over aluminum? Never. Do I prefer Touchwiz over Sense? Never.

I think Samsung and HTC are trying to emulate Apple which isn't exactly the best thing for the majority of consumers who look for flexibility.

Samsung removed the swappable battery and sd slot.

HTC used the same design with incremental upgrades. Might as well call it the HTC One M8s.

I give kudos to HTC for at least not upgrading the screen res to 2K and not removing the memory slot. Investments on microsd slots won't go completely wasted with the M9! And 1080p for a 5-incn screen is beyond good enough for me.

HTC is my first love with Android being the pioneers of it but isn't my fav OEM anymore. Xiaomi is. Why? Price, value, specs, flash sales, Facebook interactions and contests, and most importantly they really do support users into flashing custom ROMs. Their MIUI site actually have it avail to download on their site including older ones in case you hate the newer one. Android is about flexibility and versatility but Google and many of these OEM's are starting to remove those hardware and sometimes software options. They are almost forcing us to upgrade as often like iOS fans when some look for a much longer term commitment beyond just two years.

The excitement of the s6 edge alone overshadows the m9.

HTC in trouble this year, I predict.

I wonder what HTC is thinking right now...

Feel kind of bad for them but at the same time they only have themselves to blame.

Yes the m9 is a better m8, but the average consumer will not know how to appreciate that. Especially with redesigned s6 and the edge. Then you have the number one most tempting smartphone of all time, the iPhone.

I wonder what HTC is thinking right now...

I imagine damage limitation and re-issue statements that this is pre-release software and the camera performance will be better on final release ......

The only way they can really salvage not being overshadowed utterly is if they announce that it will be priced at €499 making it €200 cheaper than the S6 standard

If HTC exec's are reading the tech forums, they must be quaking in their boots and second guessing themselves. I have read like a dozen different tech forums and it seems like 75% are very disappointed in the M9 not being a bigger jump, or looking like the leaked renders from last month. Even FaceBook posts are bashing this M9 big time.

But it is funny, the iPhone S versions, are exactly what the M9 is to the M8, and the 'S' versions somehow sell like hot cakes with record breaking sales, better than the year before.

So why is it ok for Apple to just make a better camera, and faster hardware and more RAM, but keep the exact identical design for two years and get away wit it ? But HTC does it, and people say their done, this thing won't sell at all.

Apple has an established model that the industry and consumer understand.

S model every other year. It's like clock work, so no point is being critical because you have no reason to expect otherwise.

Also, Apple's biggest competitor is Apple since they are the only one's doing iOS.

HTC has to worry about LG, Samsung and whomever. The landscape is way more competitive.

You read the feedback and the most common thing is Samsung knocked it out the park, HTC is meh. Apple isn't even mentioned.
