Replace "technically advanced" with "best optimized for a given hardware set" and I will be more than happy to give you that without a word of argument.

I think you're giving the reason why the software is more technically advanced. For example, if the games on one platform have a higher polygon count, higher resolution textures, more lighting effects and a more stable frame rate, I would say the software on that platform is more technically advanced.

Now if you ask why, one possible reason could be that the software is more optimized for a specific hardware set.

Just like the Console vs. PC debate. If a subset of software has to optimize for a specific hardware set in order to eek out a level of performance not seen anywhere else, you cannot claim that the level of performance was not attained.

Similarly, if the only reason Infinity Blade was able to use lighting effects never before seen on a mobile device, was because they focused on the iPhone, you cannot claim it isn't more technically advanced than the competition.

I had a play with one of these during lunch.

Man, was I blown away. It makes my 4S so antiquated like something from the 18th century. I'm finding it really hard to hang on to it.

Everything just looks so much better. Layout is nice and clean. It has white background on most of the UI compared to Samsung's black. SLCD is so much better compared to SAMOLED which has over-saturated colours which make me want to vomit.

The only thing holding me back is no 4G/LTE, and the WWDC in June. I have a strong feeling iOS 6 will be pretty much the same with only more new features thrown in. I think this is much more important than what the iPhone 5 will look like.

Well after 1 day I decided to go back to my 4S from the HOX. I'll be the first to admit that I'm very comfortable and familiar with ios and that could be part of the reason for me giving up so quickly. In my brief experience here are my thoughts:

The HOX hardware is amazing. Enought said, I like the hardware better than my iPhone. It's really android where I have my problems. For instance, I can't find a decent twitter client for the life of me, none of the keyboards compare to the iOS keyboard IMHO. I'm not a fan of how the gmail client handles HTML emails and I feel like your constantly looking for good ways to handle basic functions (battery percentage, switching profiles etc.).

I can see why some people love android, the level of customization is great. For me I believe ios just meets my expectations and needs better. Here's for hoping for some nice hardware from apple this year!

I understand what you mean. I recently got an iPhone from work so I sold my personal iPhone and got a galaxy nexus to hold me over until the new iPhone comes out. Visually, android has come a long way but there are still quirks that I cant get past. I hate not having a single unified settings app. It's a pain to adjust settings from individual apps ( simple settings like sound, vibrations and led notifications). I also don't like having a separate email client for gmail and then for everything else. The biggest pain for me is a lack of previews on the home screen when the phone is locked. For an instance, on ios when you get a text, Facebook notification or even an email, an alert with a preview pops up. On android all you get is a flashing light. Then you have to turn the screen on, type in your password and drag the notification drawer down to see what it is. I absolutely hate having to type my password over and over for simple things like that.

I'm on day 3 with my One X, and quite happy with it. As an excellent companion phone to my iPhone 4S.

I must admit one great feature is the wonderful way it feels in your hand. It's so easy to hold and comfortable with it's slightly rounded edges and curved glass display.

The 4.7" display is what makes it so useful for me, since I use a smartphone on the web a lot. My high level of mobility demands a full featured smartphone with ample viewing area when on the web.

After using Androids since Google released the first one on T-Mobile, it's been fun to experience the growth of this platform. Android 4.0 is very well sorted out and meets my needs ideally. With a robust battery, it's up to all I use it for.

Now if only Apple would offer a modern sized display, over 4.0" I'd really be thrilled.

You can pull the notification bar down from the lock screen. If you want to respond to anything just Tap it, input your pin and you are there.

Ill give you the settings in every app. That kinda does suck, but ios has this also. Settings on the iPhone is mainly for the ios stuff as most apps have there own settings menu.

Yes, SAMOLED is disgusting.

I'm in Australia. We do have LTE, but the LTE version (One XL) is still not out yet. It's also only dual core, although from what I've heard it's as fast as the quad core version since the dual core is Snapdragon 4 and the quad core is Tegra 3.

Hey...

Go to your local AT&T store, pick up the One X, go to Settings, display settings, then disable animations.
Now open apps, go back home, ect, ect, and watch it fly. It should be faaaaast.

If you haven't used it yet, go run like the wind!

how is the screen under direct sunlight? I think that was one of the problems with the 1st revision of SLCD, if I remember correctly.

I'm contemplating a phone to play with until iphone "5".. trying to decide between this or the SGS III.

The screen is amazing is direct sunlight. Things are still crisp and clean (that was using a dark wallpaper in my case).

I do not use pin for unlocking my GNex (just a swipe) and I can pull down notification bar (Android 4.0.0).

The HOX has a single settings buttom that pretty much covers everything, apps, settings, etc.

It also notifies you of anything via a widget if you like. Battery indicator, there are plenty of apps that mimic that for Android. Visual VM, same thing. Create folders, yes that too.

Don't like the mail client, use the native Gmail client. Suck you cannot pick out what client you want to use. But each client has a app for that also so not really a problem.

Most of the criticizims on here relate to not knowing Android ICS more so than a deficiency in the OS itself. You can mimic most of the functions if not all of the functions of IOS is you feel that ICS is missing anything. I was quilty of this too after a few days but after playing with the phone some more began to learn little by little.

Don't like a telemarketer calling your phone, block the number from calling you right from the phone app. Iphone cannot do that unless you jailbreak. Don't like the keyboard, install another one, again iphone cannot do this.

ICS can do some things IOS cannot and vice versa. In my opinion the One X makes the iphone 4S feel antiquated by comparison hardware wise. Not only is the screen better, the sound is better, reception is better, the gorilla glass 2 repels smudges better, the digitizer and capacitive display is one unit so the icons feel like they are floating on top of the screen. Amazing screen.

ICS is fantastic. Intergrates well with Mac's and every apple product you might own. Want a remote for apple TV, just down load it.

Will I switch back to IOS? Maybe when the iphone 5 comes out. But that is the beauty of trying something else, you have a choice. How many people (me included) got the 4S because they already have the Apple eco system in place? Even the 4S was disappointing hardware wise.

The screen is what really makes the device. I don't even pick up my ipad that much since owning this phone.

Give it a try your mileage may vary, but in my case I am liking this phone more and more every day. Nothing wrong with trying something different. ;)

You can even disable the pin, and just use a swipe to access you phone ala iphone. Want to take a picture from the lock screen, yes you can do that too. Notification bar is accessible in the One X from the lock screen, and you can even pick what you want to access from the lock screen. Ios cannot do that.

I need the pin for my exchange account so I don't have the slide option. I guess having a pin disables pulling of the bar.

I don't have a one x but it looks like htc went ahead and unified the settings. Wish my stock ics gnex had that. I'm sure you can mimic everything iOS has and then some, I'm not arguing that. Once you have it set up, you are good to go, it's just the setting up part you have to get right.

^^This^^

I am blown away by how phenomenal this device is. I have been an iPhone user since day one of the first iPhone and swore I would never leave iOS, but after getting bored with my 4s, I decided to dabble with this and can't believe what I have been missing.

The 4s truly seems like an antiquated device compared to this...as a matter of fact, it's silly to even compare the two devices, the iPhone 4s is Atari, the HTC One X is PS3. Sorry for the video game analogy, but this is what comes to mind when comparing the two.

I find your video game analogy ironic, considering the iPhone 4S has a much faster graphics processor and has much more graphically advanced video games :p

In real world application, there is no comparison between these two...the HOX is a far superior device...at least in my opinion.

Hey, if you like the phone better that's cool. It's just funny that I'm playing games (real world applications) on my iPhone 4S that are graphically in another generation than what's available on your device, yet you compared the iPhone 4S to the Atari and your phone to the PS3 :)

When it comes to in-game graphics with real-world applications, there is no opinion involved, the iPhone 4S wins.

IMO games on a 3.5" screen is just silly regardless of how good they are. I paid for a few infinity blade etc and after a restore I haven't bothered to redownload them even though I paid for them. Lol

Even games like angry birds are difficult for me and I make dumb error. My thumb can cover 20 birds! Lol

iPad is a different story, but even then I'd rather use an android tablet cause it's so easy to plug my ps3 controller in, or Bluetooth a wiimote (never tried bt on iPad) or run an emulator to play old school games. I don't have either my iPad or tablet jb or rooted currently.

My problem though is I like to hack and have the latest updates. With android I HAVE to root to get the latest OS, but with ios I can't have both. Old version of ios with jb or new version without jb.

I'm tempted to try the AT&T model now after reading about the battery life but for the life of me can't figure out why they decided to go with such a paltry amount of internal storage? I'm underground or in the confines of a hospital a lot and currently love how comfortable I am storage-wise with my 64gb 4S (with 20GB free). And it's not just music, etc. I have a medical app that, with all references and graphics downloaded for offline viewing (ie if in the OR), takes up over 1GB alone. If it had either 32GB or an SD slot, I could see myself taking the leap, but for now it's a frustrating temptation at best.

Too bad, you're missing out on some great gaming experiences :)

Unless you play them on your iPad of course, but some games I prefer on the phone. Oh well, to each his/her own.
