I was a little surprised how easily I noticed the difference because I always used the S10+ in the same FHD+ mode. Not a deal breaker though and no doubt helps give the P30 Pro it's outstanding battery life.
I am actually not too sure if it is the Screen Resolution or the EMUI9.1 optimizations that are giving the P30 Pro it's great battery life.

The new EROFS File System has give the P30 Pro quite a performance boost over the Mate 20 Pro, but we will need to wait until the Mate 20 Pro gets EMUI9.1 to confirm, hopefully I will still have both devices to give a thorough comparison.

Each time I use the Mate 20 Pro and then come back to the P30 Pro I am shocked at how much more fluid snappy the P30 Pro is, yet they are both on the same Kirin980 SoC.

So just had a strange issue with WhatsApp - notifications not coming through.
All of a sudden, 12 messages came through on WhatsApp from like 3 hours ago.

Not sure what has gone on there.
Isn't it a known issue with some notifications not coming through with Huawei phones?

Bit concerning.

Maybe it’s the aggressive memory management?

Edit: I think what’sapp is experiencing an outage at the moment.

Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp down across US, Europe

Nothing to do with Huawei, all to do with Facebook, WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram being down today.

Hmm so I know there was an outage earlier but it is all resolved now yet FB is behaving strangely and I have had this before.

I tagged my sister in something half an hour ago and she instantly responded which I got notified of, but then loading the app and I don't have any notifications ?
So I force close the app, refresh then 11 pop up on the bell icon in FB but these are all weeks old. This happens a lot too.

I had my XR next to me and that notification was present and correct. What's going on there then I wonder.

Could it be the agressive app management in EMUI?

Have you gone and unticked Facebook under App Launch?

I typically have my Facebook notifications off as they tend to get a bit much, buty Twitter ones are On, and they come instantly, I have turned off the Automatic Management of apps in App Launch.

I don't even really understand what that means. I'll Google it lol.:D
Watch mr mobile’s review video. He talks about the podcast app closing whilst he was listening to a podcast. He said it was due to the aggressive ram management.

It’s basically how they keep the phone running smoothly. They kill all back ground tasks and apps aggressively.

If it killed all back ground tasks and apps, we would not be able to multitask at all.

I usually have Apple Music, Slack, Tapatalk, Skype, Gmail and WhatsApp going. Very odd though that that happened to him.

Exactly...EMUI is famous for killing apps in the background and putting them to sleep. It has very aggressive ram and app management.
So of this is very good in that it keeps some apps from using to much systems resources. This saves battery and ram. But sometimes it is too aggressive and kills apps and notifications from those apps from working in the background.
This has been my experience with Huawei phones I have had in the past.

All easily solved here...

Settings - Battery - App Launch, set which apps you don't want to be Automatically Managed and which you do, Battery Life barely changes though, still get 9-10hours SOT over 24hours off charge

Turned it off on a all most used apps, and this is copied over with Phone Clone from my Mate 20 Pro to P30 Pro, so you do this once and never again

This.
The Chinese phones get pretty good battery life because of this. EMUI, MiUI, etc, they all have more aggressive background app killing than stock Android.

I will just say that my notification problem is Facebook specific. So it isn't showing in the Facebook app - I still got notified by Facebook on my phone though and apps have never died on me or closed themselves both on this and my P20's.

I have read about this aggressive app management thing but I've never had any effects from it before personally.

Indeed, same here with the Mate 10 Pro, Mate 20 Pro and P30 Pro, but then again, much like on Samsung phones, I have always gone straight to the options to turn off the App Management from day1, so I am always like WTF when people go one about Aggressive Memory management when it can be simply turned off anyway..... But it seems nobody wants to hear that part here, goes against the agenda

No refreshes here for the P30 Pro

How's everyone using their P30 Pro in terms of the Notch? On or Off?

It's weird, on the Mate 20 Pro I did not mind the Notch being On, it looked better with it On, but on the P30 Pro I like the way it looks with the Notch Off however I love how small the Notch is when it's turned On....so each day I am trying the 1 way or the other

How to fix Huawei P30 Pro notification problems

Huawei's EMUI skin has come a long way in the last three years, but there are areas where it falls short. Push notifications in particular have been an issue for some time now, with EMUI's aggressive memory management to blame. There are times when notifications from a particular app just won't show up, or instances where all background services are disabled if the screen has been off for a few hours. Here's how you can manually fix the issue

I know I keep harping on about this since the Mate 10 Pro, but the battery life is just ridiculous.

I am often going to bed with anything between 40-50%, like today, basically 7 hours SOT yet still just over 40% battery left. Screen brightness set at 70%,madness.

I have a tendcy to think back at my early days on Android, with the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10i and its large (for the time) 1500mAh battery requiring me to sometimes charge twice a day if I left Location, WiFi and BT on, lol, and how far things have come, where I can mow have my phone running with Bluetooth, WiFi, Location, all sorts of apps using these connections along with a smartwatch connected and yet I can easily make it through a day with heavy usage and enough to spare for the next day, ridiculous.

My "personal record" so far, is easily 2 full days from 100% and that's just like you with nearly all sort of connections (WiFi, Bluetooth, Location) turned on.

There's no (modern/high tech)smartphone out there with this kind of incredible battery life

Absolutely insane

I would love for someone like Gary from Gary Explains to take a deep dive into the Kirin chipsets and EMUI to figure out how Huawei gets such amazing battery life, the "Aggressive Memory management" does not seem to be it as when you turn it off you still get pretty much the same Battery Life. The Huawei Memory Management seems to be built for dealing with Android when there is a "runaway app", most average Huawei, OnePlus and OPPO users who leave the Memory Manager on will never know what apps misbehave on their phone as the "Aggressive Memory Management" will take care of the issue long before it becomes an issue which is absolutely brilliant.

Have you tried running this phone in Performance Mode? I tried running the Mate 20 Pro in Performance Mode daily, battery life was still amazing, I still need to try this on the P30 Pro.
