Also just had the latest update. I almost found it funny the fingerprint was included to improve it. I've had no problems with it whatsoever.

Bought a cheap gorilla pod type tripod today so I can play around with night mode & zoom more. Although I'm not keen on the phone fixing. It's one you pull apart to clamp on. While the phone is firm and won't come off, I can see it damaging the case because it's too tight.

How are you guys finding the Face Unlock? Yes, I know it's less secure than what we got in the Mate 20 Pro (once again I am posting from the Mate 20 Pro ), but while I charge the P30 Pro I went up to it from an angle simply to check WhatsApps and it Unlocked immediately after pressing the Power Button, I realised that the Camera can still see my face from some angles and distance, which is awesome, I am finding it it's super fast, vs. The Mate 20 Pro's more secure Facial Recognition.

I hope the Mate 30 Pro can put the two (Speed and Security) together to create a fast and secure Facial Recognition, as I really appreciate how fast the P30 Pro Face Unlock is.

Just a question about the facial recognition on the P30 Pro is there any reason why they didn’t include the 3D facial recognition?

Is the mate line supposed to be more premium than the pro line?

Probably to keep the notch as minimal as possible. The Mate line will introduce the new Kirin chipset and most likely other new features and the P30 Pro cameras.

I believe, Huawei tried to keep production cost of the P30 Pro as low as possible on account of the Periscope Camera implementation and their new Camera sensor setup. Typically the Pseries phones are all about the Camera (P is for Photography according to Huawei), and so the Camera takes priority over everything else in Pseries.

But your I guess is as good as mine on the Facial Recognition.

I have to be honest though, I love the smaller notch of the P30 Pro, and don't mind the lack of secure facial recognition, the P30 Pro face unlock is just so damn fast and accurate and when I don't use that I use the Fingerprint Scanner which is superb so far.

Do you guys reckon the P30 Pro is the best camera on the market?

Over on XDA I've read a lot of negwgice fews about the S10 some call it garbage, especially at night and it can't zoom much either.

Pixel is obviously a great camera too.

I've used all 3 and my order of preference for normal everyday shots are Pixel 3 XL, S10, P30 Pro.

The p30 has the crazy zoom and ability to take in the dark but for everyday shots it wasn't as good in my opinion. But honestly they are all pretty close.

I haven't owned it but from what I can tell reading and watching a million reviews is that it's night time photography and zooming abilities are unmatched... but for everyday photos, pull phone out of your pocket and snap a pic, it seems like it falls behind the likes of the Pixel 3 and maybe a few other phones. But the gap between it and the top in this category are so minuscule that it may not matter to most people (or even show up in everyday use)

I've got a P20 Pro at the moment and later in the year I want to get something else.

It will be much cheaper to get a P30 Pro or S10 then so they will be considered.

Your conclusion pretty much sums up MKBHD's from today's review video as well.

TL;DW (watch ;))

He summarizes it's the best and quickest at low-light and most versatile but not universally the best in all capacities.

Best Overall Image Quality: Pixel 3(3XL)
Best Fastest Low Light: P30 Pro
Most Versatile: P30 Pro
Best Video: iPhone XS Max

He also gave the P30 Pro the Battery Life crown in this video.

Don't get why some reviewers are still using the old Android 3 button navigation when, Huawei's Gesture Navigation is so much better.

I nave not used the 3 button layout since getting the Mate 20 Pro and even on that phone I used the 3 button layout for about 2days maximum and switched to the Gestures which save Screen Real Estate and are easier.

to be honest i still use the 3 button method. it just seems faster with less steps. all you have to do is touch the screen. with gestures you have touch then swipe. it's basically a 2 step process.

Kinda agree with that. iPhone still rules for video, while Huawei is tackling low-light like a champ.
Note that there's no Samsung in sight. :D

I can't agree with this.

To go back home you simply swipe from the bottom up in one short move.

To go to task switcher you swipe and hold a little like the iPhone and you are there, it's far more natural, IMO.

When I want to go back in any app or menu I swipe from any side of the screen, no longer have to find a back button at the bottom or around the app, I just swipe from wherever it is convenient. Also in videos when in full screen, I don't have to bring up the navigation keys, I simply swipe from whatever side and I go back, it's made a lot off tasks more convenient and Fluid to do, no matter the screen orientation. With that said, the Gestures do take getting used to as in the beginning you are always looking for the navigation keys

I believe Huawei has done the best job with Gestures in Android, and they actually go well for people coming from iPhone as they work similarly, there's no ridiculous "Pill" at the bottom eating up Screen Real Estate.

Which leads me to my favourite part, which is how Gestures give you full usage of the Display area, as there is nothing at the bottom to compensate for.

But I guess each to their own
I am glad the 3 navigation keys are gone, they are so 2008.

I cannot wait until they replicate the WebOS experience, with more apps taking better advantage of Gestures, because THOSE Gestures were amazing.

The 3 button nav is faster to me too.

If there's an app where you have to go back a number of times, it is no where near as fast to swipe as it is to just tap the button 3 or more times.

A tap is faster than a swipe.

I also think that the on screen buttons make it easier to type as the keyboard is higher due to the buttons always being there. When the keyboard starts at the very bottom of the screen, it becomes cumbersome to use (for me).
So I'm glad they're still an option.

Best thing about swiping to go back is you can do it from any side and from any position. Could never go back to the 3 buttons, feels ancient and a waste of screen space.

I'm guessing you don't use SwiftKey because you can position the keyboard to come on higher up the screen if you want.
