The 3 button nav is faster to me too.

If there's an app where you have to go back a number of times, it is no where near as fast to swipe as it is to just tap the button 3 or more times.

A tap is faster than a swipe.

I also think that the on screen buttons make it easier to type as the keyboard is higher due to the buttons always being there. When the keyboard starts at the very bottom of the screen, it becomes cumbersome to use (for me).
So I'm glad they're still an option.
The swipe you do to go back is very short as it's from the side of the screen, unless you choose to drag it, but for me it's a quick move from any side, and if you use the built-in SwiftKey you can adjust the keyboard position.

But yeah, different strokes and all that

Best thing about swiping to go back is you can do it from any side and from any position. Could never go back to the 3 buttons, feels ancient and a waste of screen space.

I'm guessing you don't use SwiftKey because you can position the keyboard to come on higher up the screen if you want.

Exactly this.

I simply cannot go back to the 3 button nav keys

SwiftKey. Awful keyboard.

Biggest downside to this phone is I'll also be looking at the Mate 30

Each to their own but I'm wondering what makes it awful for you?

Well I've actually just downloaded it to see and the depth of customisation is actually really impressive.

My take of SwiftKey has only ever been the stock version of it on Huawei devices, which I really disliked. Way too many keys and it looks ugly as hell. But with all the themes and options you can make it look like GBoard.

I still think I'll stick with GBoard though as the option to search for emoji is the main reason I love using it. I couldn't see an option for that in SwiftKey.

Not quite sure what you mean by searching for emoji? There's already tons built in, can't be that many more that people need to use?

When you click the emoji button it brings up a search bar so when it's someone's birthday for instance I can type birthday and it gives me relevant emoji. Rather than scrolling through endless lists to find the right ones.

It's a feature I want Apple to introduce as with all the new emojis that keep being added it's a really handy function.

Hopefully that makes sense to you.

Yeah, I get that. When I type on my iPad though, emojis pop up relevant to the word. Just tried it with birthday and 3 choices came up.
[doublepost=1556477233][/doublepost]That’s with the default iOS keyboard.

SwiftKey does indeed allow searching for GIFs

I just cannot get over the battery life. Full day at work, I played music via Apple Music to and from work (2hours in traffic in total streaming to car Infotainment system), have multiple groups constantly going in WhatsApp, got Slack going for work, Skype going for some service providers I am dealing with, 3 email accounts (2 Personal and 1 work), I check Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Browse the web quite a bit especially when testing our chatbots at work, got my Huawei Band 2 Pro connected checking my heart rate, step counting etc... Google News is always going, Location is always going on High Accuracy etc etc etc.... Yet I still get home to 81%. Absolutely loving it.

What’s the actual screen on time? Can’t be over 9 hours from 19%.

Not at all, was around 2 hours SOT at that point.
I doubt I'll see more than 5 hours SOT today, I will be in bed soon after watching Game of Thrones, which is right now.

Still got 73%

I'll probably get to bed with it at 70%, watch some YouTube and passout.

Slightly (lots) off topic the latest episode was epic.

Oh, Huawei

First you dim phones and I don't want that.

Then you fake the moon landing.

Now this.

Still love my Mate 20 Pro, tho .

A guy came into work last week and I exchanged a few words. Then around 5 mins late, up popped a Google maps recommendation for his restaurant. That was a little creepy!

Vodafone Found Hidden Backdoors in Huawei Equipment

https://www.bloomberg.com/
Not much to see here it seems
Giving cover to Huawei’s assertions of innocence is Vodafone itself, which said that the problems were eventually fixed and that there’s no evidence of data being compromised. The British company went a step further:

“It is not uncommon for vulnerabilities in equipment from suppliers to be identified by operators and other third parties … If a vulnerability exists, Vodafone works with that supplier to resolve it quickly.”

The witch hunt continues!

Hope they find something soon on them, it's getting boring reading these anti-climatic findings, that are reminiscent of things Facebook keeps getting away with.

I think there is enough smoke to choke on at this point.
then the difference between Huawei and Facebook is...
Whether you use FB or not is a choice you make and you agree to their EULA about your data and privacy.

If a company is using Huawei equipment with spyware vulnerabilities the end user does not know or is involved in the choice. The choice was made for them by another corporation.
Huge difference.

Whether you buy a Huawei is your choice to.

Did you read the EULA?

I don't remember seeing anything about leaking passwords as far back as 2012, but they did.

Let's see what happens, but Vodafone are already making excuse for Huawei. I see nothing to choke on here.

Gosh this thing was in 2011/2012 and even Vodafone doesn't seem worried.

Vodafone denies Huawei Italy security risk
In a statement, Vodafone said: "The issues in Italy identified in the Bloomberg story were all resolved and date back to 2011 and 2012.

"The 'backdoor' that Bloomberg refers to is Telnet, which is a protocol that is commonly used by many vendors in the industry for performing diagnostic functions. It would not have been accessible from the internet.

"Bloomberg is incorrect in saying that this 'could have given Huawei unauthorised access to the carrier's fixed-line network in Italy'.

"In addition, we have no evidence of any unauthorised access. This was nothing more than a failure to remove a diagnostic function after development.

"The issues were identified by independent security testing, initiated by Vodafone as part of our routine security measures, and fixed at the time by Huawei."

A Huawei spokesperson said: 'We were made aware of historical vulnerabilities in 2011 and 2012 and they were addressed at the time.

"Software vulnerabilities are an industry-wide challenge. Like every ICT [information and communications technology] vendor, we have a well-established public notification and patching process, and when a vulnerability is identified, we work closely with our partners to take the appropriate corrective action."

Whether you buy a Huawei phone or device is completely up to the consumer. Whether or not you use Facebook is a choice. Simply uninstall it and your data is protected.
But what a company uses for its infrastructure is not up to consumers. Such as routers and switches that have spyware and leaking private information. So if your ISP or Cellular company uses Huawei routers and switches on the back end ...the consumer is not involved or even aware their data could be leaking.
