SE is the ideal size for carry for all occasions. It size offers the ability to take it with you to do athletic tasks like running to pocket it with slim jeans. With an A9 and 2GB RAM, it still fast even for most tasks and still looks great.

It just lacks the up date Touch ID, OLED screen, true tone color and dual camera with 3 GB RAM to make it sell even better still. If Apple included these above, I buy one even for $999!

I would buy one with the newer features, too. That being said, the fact that so many of us are willing to give up the features for size (or price) shows me that phones have really gotten past the point of upgrade excitement. They just aren't improving enough to bother.

The trick for me was to ago into settings and change the Touch ID to activate on finger rest not requiring a full button push. It makes it seem even faster this way.

Where is this setting? I can't seem to find it

Flash is cheap now, for additional $100 more you get 128GB instead of 32GB.

Went out last night with my wife and slipped my SE comfortably into my FRONT POCKET. Haven't been able to do that in years.

[doublepost=1505571405][/doublepost]Don't give them any ideas on that price!! :)

The reason why I love the SE is features at a right price. Make it $1k and you have lost me.

Yes! Here is what I do.

Lift to wake screen then rest to wake and it is instant.
Had NO idea this functionality existed. So if your phone is "awake", you don't need to press -- but if your phone is not awake, you have to press. This sound correct?

Also because the SE has the motion coprocessor it turns on when you lift the phone up.

Its funny I cant put the phone now since its so easy to use! I'm not sure what to do now. I was planning on getting an 8 but might just wait to see what the SEII brings.

It would be great if Apple made an OLED edge to edge in this size. I think eventually we will go back to that point of smaller is better. Just remember the first Cell phones lol

I'd love to see them keep the screen the same size and make the phone body even smaller.

And less wear on the button too. I only press the button now to go home

Activate Assistive Touch and you also get a "virtual" home button on the screen which you can customize. Allthough it takes some time to get used to the white dot on the screen.

It even lets you Lock Screen without using any of the device's buttons.

I hardly ever press the device's home button anymore, pretty awesome.

I just can't get used to the permanent virtual button on the screen. It's pretty cool use of that feature though. When I travel to Asia I notice that everyone is using the iPhone this way. I bet that with the iPhone x this will not be required.

[doublepost=1505576449][/doublepost]Another tip: if you are downsizing from an iPhone 7 or 7 plus and find the mechanical home button loud, clicky or mushy compared to the haptic buttons, try pressing your thumb slightly off center. I've noticed less of a clicky sound and a perceived faster experience.

I can't believe how many other people have popped into this thread saying they did the same and/or decided to do the same AFTER this thread. Truly, I can't get over it. I went out on a limb posting this because I figured I'd be labeled a hater, but I've gotten the opposite reaction. There's also been some great conversation in here without any crap. I love it. And again, I'm not hating on anyone who is on board with this year's release - to each, his own - I'm normally IN that crowd. No hate here, just a different perspective. Guys, I'm so proud of us - we're growing up! Hahah.

Thanks for starting this thread because I was seriously looking into upgrading to an iPhone 7.

I'll now upgrade my 5s to the SE.

Every year for the past 5 years, whether I'm eligible for an upgrade or not, I buy the brand new iPhone. It's become kind of a personal Christmas-in-September for me. About 2 weeks before the new phones are unveiled, I jump over to an older phone so I can sell my current model. It was no different this year; I re-activated an old 5S and got my matte black 7 Plus boxed up and ready to sell. I love all of the hype beforehand, the Apple event, the pre-order, waiting on delivery, unboxing my new toy, and enjoying the "honeymoon phase" for the next two months. I live for this stuff.

Until this year. Everything was on pace to unfold like any other year. I followed along with the rumor mill and patiently awaited for the Apple event...but before I knew it, the event was over and I was left feeling completely underwhelmed. Of the lineup they announced, there is not one device that I'm yearning for.

Where should I begin? I guess I'll start with the price tag of the base model iPhone X: $1000. For that price, you can buy a MacBook! Maybe I could look past the price tag if it weren't for the ugly black notch at the top of the device, the lack of home button/Touch ID (which, in my opinion, is the most natural and efficient form of device security), and the lack of 128GB option. 64GB isn't enough for me, so I'd have to spend $1149 on 256GB. (Sidebar: this might be what aggravates me the most. It's a sales tactic that Apple has deployed for years: take away the middle-of-the-road storage option and force those buyers to either upgrade their storage or downgrade their storage. Most will choose to upgrade and spend the extra cash. Ironically, it hasn't really bothered me until this year - the year Apple priced their flagship phone at and above $1000.)

Having said all of the above, maybe I should just go for the iPhone 8 or 8 Plus. Well, not the 8 Plus...I really wanted to downsize this year. Okay - so the iPhone 8! What new features will I get?? A glass back...a faster chip...a slightly nicer screen...and wireless charging. Well, I'll get wireless charging if I want to spend the extra cash on a Qi charger. I won't get portrait mode since that's still only dedicated to the Plus model phones. And, lest we forget, in order for me to get the appropriate amount of storage, looks like I'll have to drop $849 on the 256GB model.

Although, I have kind of been enjoying the use of my old iPhone 5S. Speed aside, it's a great little phone (keyword: little). Man, if they offered this with an upgraded camera and some faster hardware, I might actually consider it. ***DING, DING, DING!*** The iPhone SE. I almost forgot about the iPhone SE. A souped up iPhone 5S! Feels great in the hand, fits right in my pocket, easy to handle, and...COMES IN 128GB?! Wait, am I about to go COMPLETELY rogue???

YUP. I went rogue. As of an hour ago, I ordered a 128GB Space Grey iPhone SE. It arrives tomorrow and I'm actually quite excited about it. While most of you may think that I took a major step back, I kind of feel the opposite. The iPhone SE feels like 'ol trusty. It's the last of what was a great breed of iPhone - the last sign of Steve Jobs. It's fast enough to compete with today's standards, it embodies the ergonomic form factor, it packs a 12MP camera, has Touch ID, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. As much as I didn't want to admit it, the annoyance of not being able to charge AND be plugged into a speaker or have wired headphones in posed an issue more than I had hoped. The iPhone SE will do exactly what I need it to do...and it'll do it for $449. I'm going back to the basics for a while and I'm hoping Apple will do the same.

I'm in the same boat. I've had every iPhone since the original in 2007 and this was the first year that I didn't feel the urge to get the new phone(s).

I just picked up an iPhone SE 128GB to try out. My biggest concerns are not having a waterproof phone and going from 256GB to 128GB. and yes, I was using most of that 256GB on my 7. I think I can deal with the smaller storage but it was nice to not worry about getting my phone wet.

(Used an iPhone x last year and absolutely loved it but switched over to a 7 plus this Feb)

So I was all set to get an X. What can I say, I'm a sucker for tech. Then I decided to be smart and buy another se for use as a phone and camera, and pick up an lte mini for real work. great place right? Smart. Well. I went to the local apple store today and Holy heck. The SE felt like a little toy compared to the 7+. There's no way I can go back. Size wise I've gotten used to the physical size of the +. No problem even with dress jeans or a suit.

Back it is to the X. Except... 5.8 isn't A true 5.8 since the width is reduced from the plus. Keyboard is absolutely critical for me (I still have a spare blackberry sitting around) so basically I have no effing idea what I'm gonna do. Haha

For anyone considering a switch back to the SE do go give it a try in the store. I still love Thst little thing but it IS little and I really don't think you can go back to that size aftet using a +

love my 64 gig se i bought last year with two exceptions -

1) camera is slow to open at times
2) color gamut sucks hard compared to my old 6

i knew the latter going in, but if they even just updated the gamut to iphone 6 specs, it would be amazeballs

Any way to reply to texts from lock screen without swiping? I guess I used force touch more than I thought!

Good choice!

[doublepost=1505581696][/doublepost]Good points. I still prefer the 5/S/SE design language over the 6/S/7/8 but it does feel like a toy

Ive also joined the SE club. I currently have a 6S and needed to get a work phone. My plan was to to get one of the new iPhones when they were announced and use my 6S for work.

I just haven't been that impressed with the 8 or the X and also feel the Apple are taking liberties with the pricing compared to what you get for your money. I've always my iPhone upgraded to the latest model every year or two but this time I bought an SE and am shocked by how much I love it.

I have just upgraded from SE to a now discounted 7 for several reasons, in order of importance:

1) bigger screen (watching stuff and easier typing with two thumbs);
2) not moving home button (the one on my SE started getting loose after about six months) and
3) water friendliness.

Technically, however, SE remains a great phone which runs iOS 11 GM just fine.

At the end of the day it is how we use it which determines what’s best. I expect SE (and its bigger sibling 6S) to handle iOS 12 quite well too.

I've been considering going back to the smaller 4.7 inch size. I looked at the 8, but I could get a 6S much cheaper if I want to go that route.

There is also 7. :)

I’m a huge fan of the SE, been using it since it launched two years ago. It’s the damn screen quality though. Every time I use a newer iPhone it reminds me how terrible the screen is. My ideal phone would be a SE with an updated sceeen.

Nothing wrong with getting a later phone. A discounted 7 is a great buy. One benefit of the ultra portable SE is I'm using my iPad more!
