a better place
So the past few days I've only been getting a little over 3 hrs of battery life for SOT. Stark contrast to the close to 6 hrs I got when I first got the phone. I've noticed that my cell standby percentage has increased. Also I haven't been able to get LTE to stick. Is that the issue?
That indeed looks like the issue in your case.

How old is your N6? Could it be the battery degraded?

Are you two running stock ? Not rooted or ROM'd ?

I root my all Nexus phones before the plastic comes off out of the box, and start playing with ROM's within the first couple of weeks.

My point is, custom kernels and ROM's the few good ones at least, can really do wonders for performance and battery life. I'm talking night and day difference.

My wife and I both have a Nexus 6, and both running the very popular Chroma ROM. I get 5.5h Screen On this every day. I probably really get 6h On, but I plug on the charger when the red battery light alerts me of low % left, and that's typically around the 5h 30m mark.

On some bad days or crappy cell coverage days, some days I may only get 5h Screen On time. But thats been very rare.

Right now it is 8:00pm here in Chicago. I unplugged my phone off charger at 6:00am, so that's 14 hours, and mostly heavy workday use, hammering the phone all day long, with a million texts, tons of phone calls today, used GPS Navigation for an hour+, surfed the web a ton, e-mailing a lot during work, etc... And my battery right now after big use today; 24% left, with 4h 37m Screen On time.

But my OnePlus One blows the Nexus 6 out of the water in the battery life department. I'd guess by 1/3rd better.

I bought the phone brand-new so it's not a battery issue. I did flash to Chroma but I'm not on a custom Kernel. Maybe i need that also.

I think I'll also change my mobile service back to T-Mobile prepaid again. Better LTE coverage in my area.

If you're running Chroma and never flashed a kernel after installing Chroma, you're already running a custom Franco kernel (built by Zephik)

I'm not sure when you last updated Chroma but Zephik did release an update today.

How difficult is it to root and ROM it? I have never done either on any of my android phones. Honestly though I am getting through the day on what I use. I don't use my phone much at work because I have my computer. Its when I am at home, and need to use exchange email. I have yet to run out before I go to bed, but it still seems rather low.

Cool I'll download it today. Question, when I'm doing a new install is there a way to keep my apps and settings?

With Zephik's Chroma, you usually can dirty flash. UNLESS, the update jumps a whole version (e.g. 5.2).

But with this current version, feel free to dirty flash. However, just make sure to wipe Dalvik and Cache after flashing the ROM. And you must flash GAPPS and SuperSU after every flash as well.

If my instructions aren't clear, check out his first post in the Chroma thread, he has instructions there.

After a few weeks owning my Nexus 6 now, and running Chroma and some cool Layer themes, really liking this phone a ton. Even the size has become comfortably normal to me now.

If there's one drawback whatsoever, it would be battery life, and not that it's bad, it's not, but coming from a OnePlus One and iPhone 6 Plus, which both had amazing battery stamina, the Nexus 6 is not as good. I would put the Nexus 6 on par with like Galaxy S5 or or One M8 battery life, but the Nexus 6 having a bit longer battery life, compared to those two flagships.

I am averaging like 5.5h On Screen time with my Nexus 6, which IMO is pretty good :) But I am used to my OnePlus One, which could easily give me 7h to 7.5h On Screen time. That would allow full heavy nonstop use all day, and still have juice to last till bedtime, and not worrying about the battery during a night out partying. With the Nexus 6 on workdays, for me around 8:00pm I really need to start babying it.

I am back on my OnePlus One today, just for fun :p I stuck my SIM card in, wanted to test out battery life for the day.

Right now, unplugged off the charge at 6:00am, it is 3:00pm and have 80% battery life left after 9 hours of use. Screen On time is a little bit, only have 2h 3m Time On, but shocked that I still have 80% battery left to go. For comparison my Nexus 6 with similar usage would be at about 65% battery life left.

OnePlus battery was so beast. I am anxious to see what they come out with next, only for it to be ruined by the invite system.

Naked with no case, the OnePlus One does feel very good in the hand, thin and lightweight, and a pretty snappy fast phone, and the battery life is off the charts amazing, one of the best Android battery life phones ever.

But the screen is so washed out looking, with a major bluish tint compared to the more vibrant and much nicer quality Nexus 6 display.

And the camera sucks balls on the OPO ( OnePlus One ). And size wise, yes the Nexus 6 is a larger phone, but footprint wise it just feels a little bit bigger, but you get much more screen real estate on the Nexus.

IMO, the only thing going for the OPO is the battery life, and maybe the easier to hold form factor, but that's it. All other categories the Nexus 6 destroys it.

Minor correction. With a dirty flash, you typically don't have to re-flash SU and GApps (depending on which package you use) as they are system apps.

These are some of the reasons why I am more satisfied with the S6. The only thing I miss is the battery life of the One Plus.

However, I'm hoping once I get a wireless charger, it'll mitigate the battery life shortcomings.

O Yeah I wish I would've kept my OPO but I think I switched it for a HTC M8 GPE Edition and then I was in love with the stock android all over again. The first OPO had the yellow tint issue and they sent me another one that was perfect and I did enjoy the device when I did have it.

If the OnePlus One had a nice AMOLED display, maybe just the Galaxy S5's even, and a camera as good as the Nexus 6's. This phone could be a super beast.

I am hoping the OnePlus Two uses an AMOLED display, with a much nicer camera, if so, could be the best Nexus type of phone ever.

LOL I also had both phones last year.

In 2014 I owned in this order;

- Galaxy S4
- HTC One M8 ( Converted to GPE )
- OnePlus One
- iPhone 6 Plus.

Of those four phones, the 6 Plus had the nicest screen, very crisp and accurate. The most comfortable phone to operate goes to the One M8, was easy for one handed use. Best bang for the buck, no question the OPO, for $300 nothing comes close. The S4 sucked balls.

Now I have the Nexus 6, and I quite like it a lot, just two gripes; the battery life is jut ok, it's not bad at all, pretty good actually, with my custom ROM and kernel, but nowhere near the OnePlus One battery. And the size, it's just too large, I am fine with the OPO size, that's very easy, but the Nexus has crossed the line of just too large.

But I do like my Nexus 6 a lot. Only other phone that will get me to change away would be the OnePlus Two or the Nexus ( 2015 )

Really?! I feel like in the past I dirty flash and SuperSU wasn't being recognized... I guess I'll try next time.

Thanks for the heads up!

OPO was one of my favorite phones last year.

I eventually sold it when the 6+ was coming around. Crazy how good it was for the price and then I shelled out over $900 for a 6+.

My tech purchases are really ridiculous sometimes.

Yes, it essentially depends on how the system partition is handled; a well built ROM should only patch its own system files during the install and not touch anything else. Think of it like an OTA update. If you stick to a big name ROM (e.g. CM, Chroma, Slim) you shouldn't have to re-flash.

I have used some ROMs in the past that wipe the system partition during install, but I think those are few and far between today.
