What part of if your battery isn’t screwed, the phone won’t throttle that you don’t understand? If you’re battery is worn out it throttles if it’s fine it doesn’t. Get a new battery through Apple or 3rd party and no more throttling... Easy to understand right?
There are multiple reported instances of Apple refusing to change the battery if it still passes their diagnostics. However, throttling seems to kick in way earlier than that. 3rd party batteries can be even hazardous and wreck whatever warranty you may have left on the device, so it's not really a good option on a phone that costs as much as an iPhone.

So I would have to hope the other person is using WhatsApp too or convince them to download. Sounds like inconvenience.
For a remarkably large percentage of my contacts it's much easier to convince them to install a commonly used cross-platform app. Trying to get them to buy an iPhone for iMessage tends to be quite a bit harder for whatever reason.

For the first time in 10 years of owning an iPhone I feel defensive about owning one. The most expensive phone on the planet should be the best phone too as it has always been. However this time around the competition has significantly caught up and one could easily make the case of the competition surpassing the iPhone X. In almost every aspect the iPhone is behind an Android counter-part

Camera - the Pixel XL beats the iPhone X in most real life use cases - portrait mode, indoor lightinf, low lighting and sharpness. Yes the iPhone X is the only phone capable 4k at 60fps but you would eat up that 256GB fast. The unlimited free storage on Pixel is the added cherry on the cake.

OS - iOS 11 has fast earned the reputation of the buggiest and clunkiest iOS ever. Compare this with the increasing polish and ever improving feature set of Android Oreo - Google Lens, better stock apps, better notification systems, better AR and Google Photos. Having a beast of A11 is of no value of it is hamstrung by a buggy OS

Design - one has to agree the Galaxy S8 is the best designed phone of the year and has been ahead of the iPhone for a few years now.

Assistant - Siri vs Google Assistant - no contest. Google assistant is getting better by the day as more people continue using it

Software innovation - I'll pick Google Lens over Animoji any day. MotionStills and Photos an are a few examples of genuinely useful apps. An average iPhone user is far more dependant on the Google and has at least 5-6 Google apps.

Battery Life - heard instances of far better battery life on the pixel vs the iphone

Payment system - Samsung Pay is a far better and wider accepted payment system globally than Apple Pay and they have been very pro-active in introducing this to countries where Apple Pay isn't present.

Screen - Yes the iPhone X has the best OLED display (made by Samsung) but there are people who prefer the Samsung colour pop and not having the notch is an added bonus.

So in almost every area which matters the iPhone X is second best. Having to pay first class prices for a second class phone makes me defensive. It is no wonder that almost none of the tech publications in the year end flagship smart phone round-up mention the iPhone as the winner.

It won't be long before a single Android phone incorporates all the best features into a single phone for a much lesser price.

Owning an iPhone meant owning the best phone money could buy which sadly isn't true any more.

If owning an iPhone is about status, then you have issues to deal with. I have the X. I don't care what others think. It works for me.

The main reasons iPhone or iPhone X more specifically has advantages over Android Flagships (obviously personal opinion) :

1. Display: No display come close to the X. S8 is closest one but it has that garish saturation which I am not a fan of as I want color accuracy. Even Pixel had the same color accuracy but with backlash from Android users. they had to include the saturation. Color accuracy is absolutely phenomenal on the iPhones. True-tone is amazing and makes the display consistent with different lighting conditions. Pixel 2 XL uses LG display and it shows as it not great compared to S8 or X

2. Performance: A11, as everyone mentioned, is absolutely beast and Android phones cannot even come close. It makes a huge difference as they design their own chips. Real-world Performance implications:

Only iPhone right now can record 4k 60FPS videos and no other android can do it right now. Also read this quote:

"We edited and exported the same 2-minute 4K video clip on the iPhone 8, Galaxy Note 8 and Galaxy S8 using the Adobe Premiere Clip app, and it wasn’t even close. The iPhone 8 finished the task in 42 seconds, compared with more than 3 minutes for the Galaxy Note 8 and more than 4 minutes for the Galaxy S8"

3. Design: Design is amazing on the X with end to end display almost except the notch (which am not sure how can you avoid without advancement in tech). Chrome edges and glass back (may make it brittle) makes it beautiful to look at and hold. (Also as an aside I have dropped it twice on hardwood floor with no visible and any internal damage). It is super pleasant to look at and use and actually feels nice. S8 is again the only one that comes close with Pixel 2 Xdoesn't feel as premium as these two.

4. FaceID: My experience with FaceID has been awesome. I don't need to touch things/perform a separate action to check my bank account, email or buy apps. It learns and I can open it while laying down in bed with or without glasses ..best experience Hey Siri with the phone locked and it opens everything automagically to perform this action. Also like little things like alarms being dimmed if you are looking at it.

5. Camera: Camera is debatable and I agree that Pixel 2 takes better pictures when it comes to certain conditions but overall iPhone X takes better pictures in different scenarios. Verge admitted to this when did a shootout for best camera smartphone even though they gave it Pixel 2 XL. and In video, iPhone kills it and there is no competition there. 3rd party Apps on iOS can make a huge difference and can give you lead over Android camera.

6. Other things: Haptic feedback. If you have used iPhone haptic feedback, you cannot go back..miles ahead of other phones. Bluetooth/ Carrier settings- I have used Android before (nexus series) and even my friends with their S8 complain about Bluetooth not working properly or voicemail not working or lack of visual voicemail on Android. These things may not be an issue for other people but support for iPhone is much better overall in this regard.

Standby battery is so much better on iPhone. (debatable by some but multiple sources points to this)

Cool attention to details Apple pays when making their phones: Try comparing the sound when you are listening to your iPhone between landscape or portrait and you will be able to make out the difference because it switches sound channel based on your orientation. I wish other manufacturers pay this much attention while making hardware as Apple.

Software and security: Apple does a better job of having more secure OS mainly due to their processes. Apps are better vetted and you get security updates. Pixel can give you security updates but Apps are still an issue especially they either demand too much permissions or are outright malware. (Google is making good progress here and hopefully will make it as secure as iOS). Other manufacturers are worse at this. Like new Android phones released with older OSes like one plus 5 or not getting updates. S8 still doesn't have oreo 8.0 yet while Pixel is on 8.1

Apple support is still better and you can walk in and they will replace your phone easily and flawlessly for the most part. One time I got a free replacement even though my screen was cracked without apple care.

Note on Software:
Now the only downside for iPhones compared to Android phones right now IMO is software. Some examples includes notifications, bugs (personally I havent encountered major ones like others) or just general outdated things like springboard. However, it remains stable for the most part and does its job. Yes Android does things better. It still has its disadvantages in other things like not one mute button, smooth scrolling in apps and Android JVM is not great and Google still has to fix performance things in 2017 on flagship phones. (It is much better after 6.0 ) General Apps quality as mentioned is still much better on iOS right now.

In the end, you are paying top dollar for your phone and you should expect top class things and for the most part, you get one awesome phone that does its job ...even though there are other android phones that do things better individually but there is no one phone that will be better overall. (IMO Pixel 2 XL comes close if not for its display and its bezels)

Also, you can always update software through OTA but not hardware. I am sure Apple will do its bit to improve its software to match Android.

You really believe that ****, don’t you?
Saddens me that a Witcher fan would bury their head in the sand. Did you even look at the linked article? iPhone 7s are already showing throttling in that article. You can choose to ignore, that is your right. But belittle others who are unhappy about outright lies(Apple ‘geniuses’ telling people that nothing is wrong) is something else.

There are only three possibilities: OP does not own an iPhone X, OP has an agenda or OP is out of his mind. All his single points are highly debatable and he even has to choose several different Android models to compare individual features, which is just laughable. And of course the features where the X is clearly ahead of all other phones don‘t really matter; well how convenient. Truth is: As a complete package, right now, the X is absolutely unbeatable.

Actually, four possibilities- “all of the above” might apply.
[doublepost=1514337593][/doublepost]
Worse than that: that guy should have just asked "but where's the Apple logo?"
[doublepost=1514324632][/doublepost]

Keep in mind that fake news implies a made-up story.

Apple has admitted to slowing down older phones when batteries have degraded some: https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...g-of-iphones-with-degraded-batteries.2096297/

Thus, NOT "fake news" in spite of your own experience.

I know that many here are programmed to defend Apple against anything that sounds like any kind of slight, but here you are having to call Apple a liar to call their own admission fake (news).

The "fake news" is the implication that Apple is throttling iPhone X, or phones with healthy battery conditions. That is fake news.

For a remarkably large percentage of my contacts it's much easier to convince them to install a commonly used cross-platform app. Trying to get them to buy an iPhone for iMessage tends to be quite a bit harder for whatever reason.
Most of my contacts are already iPhone users. I can tell you one thing for sure iMessage won’t hog your battery like what’sapp and Facebook messenger does.
For a remarkably large percentage of my contacts it's much easier to convince them to install a commonly used cross-platform app. Trying to get them to buy an iPhone for iMessage tends to be quite a bit harder for whatever reason.
i have more friends and clients with iPhones then android. no need to make everyone download a 3rd party app and switch to it. When everyone else has something that works out of the box.

Yawn, so sell it and get one of those superior phones
Then you won't have to be defensive at all, you can be offensive
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Exactly what I was thinking and think every time I see a post like this. Just sell the phone, or better yet, never buy it to begin with and buy the phone that, in your opinion, is the best phone.

Is there such a thing? The long believed conspiracy of Apple using code to slow down older gen devices tends to revolve around major iOS upgrades. I "feel" that myself.

But major updates are once each year. How many iOS devices are NOT going to have worn batteries after a year of use? Then 2 years of use? Then 3? I'm not sure there can be many iDevices with "healthy batteries" when Apple is applying the slow downs. Maybe those who get an iDevice and then mostly leave it in the box or rarely use it?

All good points, OP.

Personally, it's never been about having the absolute best phone out there. I'd gotten used to Apple's quality software/hardware combo & aren't tired of it yet. I also require a smaller form factor for work/play, so I'll stick with them.

However, the price of the X isn't worth it imo. I agree that for that price, the X should be leading the way in many more categories.

Camera: Subjective.

OS: iOS 11 is a disaster but we actually have updates to look forward to.

Design: S8 looks better? Hell no.

Assistant: Siri is siri-ously the dumbest assistant you can get, so I agree.

Software innovation: I've been saying forever that Apple needs to go back to their innovative roots, so I agree.

Battery Life: Ridiculously impressed and it lasts more than 10 hours with me.

Payment System: Absolutely not.

Screen: Roommate has the S8 and the screen/shift is a hilarious on it. Even HE agrees.

It seems like you made up your mind and based on your subjective reviews, you would be better suited for the S8. I've had every iPhone (sans i7) and this iX made me fall back in love with iPhone again. It's all subjective. No need to feel like you must "defend" whatever phone it is you actually have. Competition is good, Apple being kept on their toes is a good thing. It can only get more heated and better for us consumers from here.

Nope, not happening. You forgot the golden rule, again, like so many of the haters do:

Apple consumers wouldn't be caught dead with an Android. You can dress the pig up, put it in a dress, paint its nails, and put on lipstick, it's still a pig. Kia makes a great car, it's cheaper than a BMW, it has more standard features than a BMW.

But it's not a BMW.

I have had the iPhone X for a couple of weeks now. I recently bought the iPhone 8. I am seriously considering to return the X (Apple Store, can still return due to the special Christmas extended return policy)

I bought the iPhone 8 (64Gb) for about €475 less then my iPhone X (64Gb). You can already find some good deals for the iPhone 8.

Just love the perfect portablility of the 8. Its as fast as my iPhone X (same A11 ofcourse), makes nice photo's to ( I am no pro photographer at all). imho,TouchID is still King compared to FaceID.

And to be honest, I do not (really) miss the oled screen of my iPhone X. After over a month using the iPhone X, there's not much difference in displays (at least not a € 475 extra worth it)

Gonna decide this week, which one to keep, either the X or the 8.

For me one thing is for sure, there is no way this iPhone X is worth the € 1159 (after more then 5 weeks of ownership). For this enormous amount I expect a 100% perfection smartphone, which is absolutely not the case (for me).

but then again, YMMV.
Everyone has their own (high or low) expectations for a € 1159 smartphone

Not sure it'll pan out that way, but even if it veers in that direction, it's not necessarily a bad thing.

Competition benefits the consumer. Apple can't be allowed to rest on its laurals, not can their competition.

I wouldn't stress on this so much. Apple still has their most refined older-gen models at a lower price point to cater to those who want to stay with IOS.

2018 should be a good year for those wishing to modernise their IOS smartphone hardware.

Let the big boy manufacturers fight it out while we send them a message with how we spend our money on the wide variety of quality hardware that we're spoilt with these days.

Assistant: Siri is siri-ously the dumbest assistant you can get, so I agree.
Haha, the only objectively correct statement in this post. Siri is awful and hasn't grown up at ALL. But then again the "best designed S8" has Bixby, so not exactly a minus vs. that phone. All other points, if that is your feeling OP, you should buy another phone. Again, nothing wrong with a phone that doesn't make you feel remorse.

Back to Siri rant, if you're going to make that the only voice assistant I can use, for the love of god, put some effort into it.

Exactly the attitude Apple needs to raise prices for lesser innovations

I do own a Galaxy s8 and a iPhone X. Every person criticising you the iPhone doesn’t have an agenda. We pay top dollar for our phones and should get the best In class. Won’t be long before all the areas where android is better come in a single Android flagship for a lower price. Then the iPhone will have to be the best rather than being ‘good enough’ to command that premium pricing.
I do not fear that day. It will be really exciting in the market. I just don't think that day is here yet though, but it's cool if it's here for you. I look forward to better phones and hope a competitor does surpass and offer something good enough to make me switch. The things I care about aren't there yet. But I have no problem if or when that happens. You can give Apple a big "told you so" then. Apple didn't put me through college or anything. Loyalty goes as far as their latest product (I'm enjoying the recent offerings).

Privacy and security. Both are things that Apple has stressed are important to them. As long as they keep this corporate philosophy, I will continue to be their customer. We all know how Google really makes their money...your information.

And why would we care if we can afford it? I decided to take a look at the supposedly best-in-class Galaxy Note 8 and I was shocked by what it couldn't do. Android has miles to go before it catches Apple.

Well that depends on where you live. In the US iMessage can be and often is a dealbreaker and Google’s messaging strategy is a mess (it would help if their attention span with messaging apps exceeded that of a goldfish), but in Europe pretty much everything happens in WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger. I’m third year into having iMessage completely disabled also when on iPhone (as no one I know is using it anyway) and I really haven’t missed a thing. Texts and multimedia get transferred with WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger without compromising on the quality.

Except that those two apps still do not send original quality files.
