For me SE was hard in the eyes when browsing and even facebook the keyboard takes a lot of it tiny screen and i have perfect sight! One year and i was ready to move to the best size for me ever 4.7 screen no planing to go back

Hmm... To each our own.
I honestly don't browse much on my phone and don't use FB at all.

To me I simply want the smallest, lightest, most pocketable iPhone so I can hail a ride, message, make a call, take a photo, check a sports score, etc..

I really wish Apple would realize that some of us just need the most pocketable iPhone and that's all we want from our phone. I use my iPad (or Mac) for when I really want to dive in to content consumption or more task oriented things.

I read numerous Guardian articles, CBC stories, MacRumors, NHL news, the Verge, and emails daily on my one and only phone, the SE. I also use the camera daily and on trips. This computer/camera/telephone/music player fits easily into my front pocket and can be used one-handed. I also have a 2013 MacBook Pro and have no interest in replacing either of these well built quality products with anything Apple is current selling.

@Northern Man

I hear ya'!

I'm really bummed that iPhone sales on the whole are down and Apple is now tripling down on "Services Revenue". To me it makes it less likely that they'll expand the lineup of hardware to cover our interests ever again, as I'm not sure they'll see the financial picture makes sense for them.

I think they'll play the game of "if they want to stay on iOS, eventually they'll buy something we sell, even if they don't like it".

That's an interesting game of "chicken" to ponder. I've done literally no exploring on Android hardware for a couple years, but I'm not nearly as tied to iOS as Apple may think -- assuming I could find smaller than 4.7" iPhone size hardware on that side.

I have never had an Android phone. I had a Blackberry for years (work issued) and three iPhones over the years. Unfortunately there are no smallish phones on the Android side (perhaps Sony but not sure about those). I think there are two main issues: One being that most people will buy what is offered without demanding other sizes and many of these buyers are young and a phablet size phone is all they know ; and the second being that a substantial number of purchasers (perhaps mostly young) use the phone as their only IT device. No laptop, no desk top and no tablet. As a result they want the phone as big as possible so the screen is good for movies, YouTube etc.

I sold my XS about 2 weeks ago and ugraded to the SE! It's been an absolute joy to use. I commute by bicycle to work and do a few 30+ mile rides for fitness each week and this phone is the perfect companion. It does everything I need from Apple Music to Gmail to Messages.

Obviously the screen and camera quality are much better on the XS or XR, but I've found that my quality of life is better with the SE.

Without the draw of the large screen I've found myself on my phone less and reading books more, excercising more often, and getting better quality of sleep. I'm averaging about 1 hour 45 mins of screentime per day.

While it might not be for everyone, I think the SE is all I really need.

If only we have a SE without the forehead and chin/home button. I wonder how the X stack up? The problem with X is the weight.

I tried an XR for a day. Couldn't deal with the big size and heavy weight so I returned it and went back to the SE. If I was forced to buy a phone that Apple sells today, I'd probably get an 8, but I wouldn't be happy. Definitely prefer SE feel and weight. Apple needs to bring it back.

I went to an 8 before the 8 plus I currently have. The 8 lasted a week. It was great to begin with but I’ve always had plus phones

After my 6s I got curious with bigger phones and went through the S8 Plus, 8 Plus and Pixel 2 XL in the space of a year. By the end of it, accidental presses on the edge of the screen on the Pixel constantly got on my nerves and sold it. While the bigger screen made manga a little easier to read, it still wasn't great and would use my iPad or desktop. The vertical scrolling 'webtoon' style manga is fine on my X.

Other then that, I didn't really gain from the bigger screen on the other apps I use. I remember back with my 5, I found a translated novel series, spent over 3 weeks glued to my phone reading through all the volumes. I'm currently planning on replacing my desktop with an iPad Pro as my usage has changed and I think I can get by fine with it, a new updated SE would compliment this well.

When I'm out and about I only use my phone to message and scroll through social media/reddit if I have to wait around, I miss having a small light weight phone that fits in my tiny hands and pockets..

I could never use a 4" screen ever again. There is a 5.4" iPhone coming next year that should satisfy SE fans. A shame it will take Apple that long to offer a proper small phone again.

Based on what you have read, do you know what the rumoured dimensions of the actual phone will be? If the screen is larger than the current SE and the body is the same size or not much larger, that would be great.

Suppliers. Depending on what specific chassis/display/internal parts, Apple needs to align the appropriate suppliers to manufacture the phone. A large part of the iPhone organization is conducting business through a myriad of suppliers, which obviously they have plants in China, India ect. .

The rumors appear to imply that it will be 5.4 inch edge to edge screen similar to the design of the X/XS. If true, it would be great news for folks that don't want a large phone.

is the XS and X same size than iphone 7 or 8?

I miss my 5 and 5s, almost picked up a brand new SE, but found a X for 500 less unused. If only they would make a flagship level SE..

A pipe dream I made up, moved the speaker grill to the bezel, under screen sensors, XR camera setup, USB-C, logo is the dango sweet haha.

Since it’s a pipe dream, why have a protruding camera?

My 2 1/2 year old SE is still going strong ( battery might need replacing, eventually, as it’s finally blipped down below 90%) I was lucky enough to pick up another one recently, with twice the storage capacity as the original, to which i ported my landline number. Love these little phones. I have an iPad, so their small screen isn’t an issue for videos, reading, etc. Hope these and my older MacBook Pro (late 2013) will last til the new keyboard arrives ... I used to upgrade religiously, but the last few years’ products haven’t been compelling so I’ve been holding off. Would love to see a newer small format phone, but for now the SE is just about perfect.

Was thinking I was defying physics enough cramming the X inside :p (keeping force touch, taptic engine). The SE feels perfect in hand, I don't think I would mind having the bump to keep the thinness. But with a full front OLED screen and how ever much smaller they can make the PCB compared to the SE one, if the battery was too small to last the day then I could go thicker.

No joke..
There's an XR in the house and the thing is a frickin' brick

Hmm. Thats' disappointing.

To an SE fan, the X/XS size is still huge

Incorrect. Still a huge size disparity between SE and X/XS and even iP8 physical sizes.

Fully agree with all of this..

I wish Apple would understand and even market the fact that a new "super small" SE sized device, edge to edge screen, could be the "I want to use my device less but still have an iPhone" option in their lineup.

Someone posted a render on Reddit (actual size of an iPhone with a 5.4" screen and no bezel, with the SE body inside of it, I wish I had saved it). It's essentially a little wider and taller than the SE. I don't know how it compares to the 4.7" iPhone's. I'm gonna say maybe a touch smaller than the 4.7" iPhone and a touch bigger than the SE. Essentially the perfect size for one handed use.

The 5.4" iPhone should essentially fall right between the sizes of the SE and the 4.7" iPhone. I'm confident most SE fans will happily embrace a 5.4" iPhone.

It sounds like you’re a little fuzzy on that

The SE (and earlier) screen size is perfect for one-handed use (it was designed specifically with that in mind—not watching videos, etc). If the screen is any bigger, even if the overall device size stays the same, it becomes less perfect, because the thumb has trouble reaching the entire screen while the hand grasps the phone.

I have no idea about most fans but I know this fan wouldn’t.

I agree with you, but what if this was the best choice, with everything else being even bigger?

Well yeah if it’s the best, then it’s the best, but I wouldn’t be happy like I used to be with iPhones. It would be something I have to live with, like a wart.
The real uniqueness of the SE is true one-handed use, which is due to the screen size as well as the device size. Change any of that at all, and it’s no longer unique. It’s just a bit smaller version of the existing iPhones, but still not a true one-handed device.
If people want that, and Apple gives it to them, I’m happy for them, really. But personally, I care nothing for a bigger screen. I just want a true one-handed iOS phone.

What I saw on Reddit was essentially a render of the dimensions of the phone with the SE on top of it. The render suggested the 5.4" iPhone will be slightly wider and taller than the SE. Given the SE is essentially 5" corner to corner diagonally, that render makes sense to me. No there were no exact dimensions on the render.

I have normal sized male adult hands. I can easily reach the top bezel area of the SE body. Obviously the bottom bezel area is easy to reach with a thumb. The 5.4" iPhone should be only slightly wider and taller than the SE. I'm confident that any adult male at the very least will be able to easily navigate all dimensions of this phone with one hand.
