Three apps onscreen matches the iPad.
No. Not without one covering another. On OneUI you have have one in one side and 2 in the other, or one in the top/bottom and 2 on the other half (and you can choose your proportions, not fixed as on iPad), plus a 4th resizeable slide-over that can be placed anywhere in the screen (and this is without even starting DEX).

Good points, and good for those folks that need to work that way. 👍

Android has figured it out. My Galaxy Tab Ultra is a multi-tasking beast. Three apps can be onscreen, and you can save tons of open app combos, so I can instantly choose my Clip Studio/Chrome/Notes space, then flip over to my NomadSculpt/Clip Studio/File Explorer space, etc.

Switching to a “pro” Android tablet just brought into stark relief how much of a joke iPadOS is. It’ll be interesting to see how Apple does at rectifying some of that tomorrow. I’m set for the next few years with the Galaxy Tab, but I’ll always keep my eye on the iPad Pro to see if Apple ever decides to bring it back to relevance…

I take it you have the 14" S8 Ultra - does the multi-windowing work well when attached to a monitor?

You are kidding, right? Android has mediocre tablet apps. It is really sad that there is zero competition in the tablet space for the iPad..

yes, agree but i agree with him when it comes to Dex system on the tab s7 or newer
I mean ipad has one pf the best keyboard and tackpad thanks to the magic keyboard...its better than any offering from samsung or even better than the surface pro keyboard accessories , so it will be a-shame if ipadOS doesnt come with a more input UI for the keys+trackpad usage

The best thing to do, when using a monitor, is using Dex on the monitor, and OneUI on the tablet. Dex works pretty well on external monitors. Personally it's the only way I use it. I don't see the need for DEX on the tablet when OneUI is already so good at multitasking.

I think the on the fly scaling of the display might actually be for the pro apps... think about it...

The more I watched the keynote, the more I thought that Apple is now laying the groundwork for better, full featured apps. They increased the memory a single app can use to 16GB. They gave us more multitasking options, including the ability to have resizable windows. I am now sure that Apple will be making some Pro apps for the iPad at some point, probably next year I guess. The new iPad Pro whenever it comes though must be customizable, like a Mac is. People should be able to choose the amount of RAM they want and starting RAM should be at least 8GB with options going up to 64GB (by using a M2 Pro/Max chip).

the likelihood of iPad Pros getting RAM higher then 16GB is extremely slim. These are iPads. Not Macs. When your pushing past $2,500 for an iPad, your in MacBook territory.

with full monitor support, iMovie and LumaFusion are going to be a dream

Agreed. For me the big deal will be remote desktop. Now I'll be able to remote desktop on the external monitor and still use the iPad.

Well, if the new iPad Pro gets the M2 then it could get up to 24GB of RAM. Also do not forget that iPadOS supports virtual memory for the first time in the history of the OS.

24GB RAM is indeed a possibility although not a guarantee that it will happen for iPad. 64GB is still many years away as an option for the base MacBook, let alone iPad. But indeed swap can be a game changer depending on how it is implemented.

Exactly. Nothing more to add here. No FCP on WWDC, as expected.
First Apple needs to lay the foundation for supporting such apps. This is what iPadOS 16 is doing. I guess that we will be seeing much better apps in 2 to 3 years from now, especially if Apple brings better iPad Pros on the market, supporting more RAM. These things take time and you cannot expect them to completely change what an iPad is faster.

Someone using the beta just said you can have reference display going on the iPad while you have Lumafusion or something else on the external display.

Mn Pro & Max SoCs require active cooling, highly doubtful they will ever show up in an iPad Pro tablet...

M2 SoC will allow up to 24GB RAM; as for the price comparison with an Apple laptop, the laptop does not have a touch screen with stylus support...

I had no such expectations in the first place. The iPad is a dozen years on the market, anything missing now is simply a sign of where the priorities are at for the product.
