Maybe because a lot of people are on the fence and are interested in both the good and bad opinions of a product. If only fanboys hung out singing its praises, that isn't particularly helpful.

I am glad they do express their opinions. It helps me make an informed purchase.

Neither of these quotes really address what I am saying. I will give you an example. I don't care for Android phones; they just aren't my thing. I had a Galaxy 5 so I was informed - much more so than some people that randomly bash an Apple product. The last thing I have time for is to get on an Android forum to say how much I didn't like the Android OS. That may be helpful to one trillion people, but why would I spend the time doing that? Plus, I am just a guy posting on the internet. If someone is going to base their decision on what I say when I don't know them...

Completely disagree. After returning that awful Logitech Create case, and getting a Smart Cover, I have finally started to really enjoy using it. It's the best of an iPad and a MacBook for me.

Clearly other people are more willing to share their experiences than you are, which is fine. I don't base a decision solely on what some stranger on a forum has to say, but I have read many things about products on forums that brought up issues or things I haven't thought of. I was very interested in an Apple watch until I read about how mediocre the heart rate monitoring was, which would have been one of the main reasons for me to pick one up. Sure enough, after some more research it really wouldn't work for me so I am holding off, hoping that the AW2 will improve it. Some anonymous stranger on a forum posted something I read that stopped me from buying and returning a watch.

Me, too, though in my case it was reading a review. I got a monitor with a chest strap instead. Forum posts are not always reliable, but they can raise issues that steer us in research directions we might not have thought of.

Like you, I've gotten useful help from forums like this one.

Get my pencil tomorrow so I'll have thanksgiving break to fool around with it. Right now I'm leaning towards taking back. But I'll wait and see some more. I don't have the Air 2, just the first Air. So the difference is a bit more than those Air 2 posters above.

But still, the games or what I do on the Air aren't really that taxing for it.

I finally got mine last night, Space Grey LTE and Pencil. I quite like it so far. The PEncil is great, albeit a little less impressive than I recall in the store. I think the apps still have to work on responsiveness a bit, but Apple's Notes and Procreate seem to work best. The device itself is definitely big. I was planning to just sell my Air but now I'm not so sure.

Part of me feels like getting the LTE model might have been overkill, not sure how much I'll use this out of the house and need LTE. Plus, the Space Grey looks very big with the black and dark colors, so now I'm kind of eyeing the gold model instead. Something different as I've never had a white iPad, and I think the gold + white looks really nice and slims to the profile out a bit.

What say you, is it stupid to return my LTE model for a 32GB gold iPad Pro? Is 32GB really not enough storage? What do you think about gold vs. space grey?

I look at gold/white Apple devices like I look at tan leather car interiors - looks good sometimes but black will always be OK with me.

I think I am past 32GB being enough for me.

My opinions:

LTE is completely unnecessary if you're not taking it out of the house and you have Wi-Fi at home. Unless your internet fails often and you really need to be connected all the time.

32 GB is not nearly enough.

Color is purely a matter of personal taste. I once bought a lime-green car because I wanted the model, and it was the only color available without a long wait. I hated the color... for about a week. Then I got used to it. Then I grew to like it. Somebody called it "garden-pest green," and I adopted that description. Drove it for 4 years and loved it. Don't worry about the color. You'll get used to it, whatever it is.

These are my thoughts. I finally took the plunge and have a white/gold 32gb on the way. I currently have a white/gold Air 2. It is beautiful, love it. It is also a 64gb. I have 45 apps and over 1700 photos, and I still have 41gb available out of 55gb capacity. My music is stored on my 6S. I've always had 32gb iPads and they have served me just fine. I don't store movies though. It just depends solely on your usage.

Have read all the reviews, every forum and it took me a while to make the decision. Very nervous about the size of the Pro but I want to give it and the Pencil a try.

Yeah I use Spotify for music except for a handful of things that might not be on there, and never really watch movies/TV shows on iPad, much less something stored locally. It would really just be apps and photos I suppose, and not too many of the latter, either. I may return it, not sure. I'm kind of OCD about always getting most power I can out of my tech purchases - in this case though it's my 3rd iPad and I kind of know how I'll use it. Like you I also have a 64GB LTE Air (original Air). On the other hand it's only $300 over the ~2+ years I'll keep the device.

It's definitely big - using the Air again afterwards feels like holding a Mini.

Yeah, I think my issue with space grey is that I'm *already* used to it because all of my iPads have looked more or less the same since gen 1. It's safe, it's fine, it doesn't look bad at all - but I get some kind of gadget lust when I see the white and gold on Apple's main page...

Yep. All very personal. I dislike the gold color so much it would have been my last choice. But even then, I'd have gotten it rather than wait for a different color.

I do think it's bad form to take advantage of their very generous return policy to take it back for no other reason than the color. But if you've realized that you need or don't need LTE, or you need the other memory option, at least there's a substantive reason for the return.

I was hoping the apple KB cover would be black like the iPad Air Smart Cover, instead it's a grey color.

Thing is with even "pro" reviews you don't know the person(s). At least in this area. Its not like say photography where yes I give Thom Hogan some credit on name alone. I have seen his work for years. Blah blah's tech review of the IPP....I know nothing of how they actually work. their definition of work and must have applications and mine probably (more like usually) different. Current applications heavily used on MBP at the moment include GNS3 for cisco studies and R/R Studio and various dev tools (IDE's or "text" editors, text in quotes to umbrella a wide range to include markdown and .xml editors among others) . Stunning reviews of how it replaces word or excel (variants) on a laptop not that important to me.

Sometimes random post from random person just as good. has the same variability really. And can lack reviewer bias/fears. Some reviewers you can hand steaming piles of crap and they'd sugar coat the review.

Why? fear of the blacklisting. they want their advanced copies later on to publish seconds after official release and NDA no longer in effect. Vice being blacklisted for being an unliked reviewer and posting later after waiting like the rest of us release to give it a go then post review.

Also android posting a bit apple orange here. many detractors here don't hate the iOS, they hate its implementation. I'd be among them....I like iOS but wanted more for IPP. I was not asking for mac os x in an ipad (been beat to death as to why bad in other threads, many points valid I will grant even). I'd have happily taken the caveat of a say iOS Pro for the IPP. iOS decked out to be unique for unique hardware. My why I didn't even buy this IPP story.

had the day off, went to the local new mall with an apple reseller (we don't have a real store where I am :( ). IPP on display and was available to play with for a good while. had my latest and greatest mini with me. And side by sided. IPP did not do great things to rate the price imo. Bigger size reminds me of a review with Nigel Tufnel of spinal tap. had an amp that went to 11. Asked so is it better. Well yeah, its like 1 louder isn't it.

the screenshots of the icon spacing do no justice to how off this looks in person, to me anyway. you give me a big screen...let me fill it up. How I want to. An iOS Pro edition, may have given me this. Rescaled graphics effect to have the same iOS work on an iphone as well as an IPP....bad call imo.

I just came off a flight. I not being the richest in the world fly the cheap seats (or its what I cash in miles for). Bulk of my flights tbh are via ANA (edit: major Japan/Asia route airline). I know how much seat room and tray table in front I get. I use the little hole for the cups. Cost of tickets or how mileage use has become a pita......I get my fill of coffee lol. let if flow to get my money's worth . I tbh find my mini to be the perfect size for this on the tray.

Size of the Ipp eyeballed has this almost like my MBP (assume keyboard and all). If because of size I CBA to whip this out on the flight most times IPP would share the same fate.

I kept the IPP for about 2 weeks, really wanted to love it but... (don't kill me Macrumors forum members). I bought the IPP and the Surface Pro 4 to see which one would be a good fit for my schooling. I found myself using the Surface more for my school work and using the IPP for browsing the internet and youtube. For me it just wasn't worth the price for what I would use it for. Just sharing my experience.

Which SP4?

Any bugs or issues?

Did you have the pencil for the iPad Pro and use it for notes?

I got the i5 256gb model. So far I have 2 issues with the Surface. The battery life is supposed to be 9 hours but I can only seem to get around 6 if I'm lucky. This is the biggest issue I have. The second issue is I get a notification about the graphics driver not responding but as soon as I get the notification I get an immediate notification it has been resolved. It's more annoying than anything else. I did get the pencil and it was great but not a vast difference from the Surface pen.

Is the IR Face camera turned off? I think Im going to replace my original SP1 with power cover with SP4 now that I threw in the towel with the iPP.

No I use the facial recognition, which I love. The new keyboard cover is excellent.

I originally bought the black, but remembered how much I wanted a gold iPhone 6plus when they first came out. I ended up ordering a gold 128 to compare, and I have to say that I am very into the gold. The space gray will be going back to apple after thanksgiving. I'll enjoy having two ipad pros until then. Here are some shots of them together, the space gray does look bigger, but then again it might just be the angle.

I haven't used my iPad Air 2 till yesterday since the release of the Pro which I have been using daily.

The iPad Air 2 is now like the iPad Mini, lol.

But going back to the Air was so much more comfortable and less awkward to use and I don't have a keyboard for it, the internal one was fine typing on my lap.

HHHMMMM, I think my Pro is in trouble.

Thanks for the post and pics. I agree the gold Pro appears to have a smaller footprint, which is one of the things I like about it. iOS is also very "white" these days so I think the white border frames it nicely. The gold has a really nice hue and it's just something different. I may order one like you as well to compare, but the more I use it the happier I am with space grey. It's not a huge deal I suppose.
