I see the flash - is it a software or hardware issue? Anyone have a cause for return?
Depending on your disposition what you’ve already experienced would be cause for return.

Please contact Apple and inform them about your experience, and let us know how they respond.

Update from some of my continued "experiments" with my own 5500m MBP and some updates from the people I'm in contact with.

- All users with the multi-display setups connected to their Imac has still not experienced any glitching
- Two users tried exchanging their Imac's but the new ones still experienced the same glitching.
- I got 3x new 5500m MBP 16" users that have contacted me with pictures / videos of the white line glitching that they are experiencing only on external displays (No one has reported it on the built in display)
- Big sur on Imac didn't resolve the glitching as reported in the thread
- No glitching on Windows 10 for both the MBP and Imac users.

Its very weird that for iMac's the glitch only occurs with the built in display and with the MacBook Pro it occurs only when there is an external display connected. Maybe someone with the hardware knowledge of Louis Rossman could explain what happens on the hardware level and what the reason could be? x)
There’s someone who is now saying they’ve seen the glitch in Windows. I don’t know if it has been confirmed, but it has been said.

It would be awesome to see Rossman get involved. He’d probably have some informative insight that we aren’t going to get from Apple... Ever...

I dunno man. Maybe they’re different issues? Like I suggested pages ago?

When you guy say "glitch in Windows", what does that mean exactly? Using a program like Parallels? Remoting into a Windows PC using a Remote Desktop type program? Not sure how Boot Camp is different than Parallels because I've never used Boot Camp.

I've had my iMac since August 17th. I haven't seen this problem at all with my 5700xt until today I just saw it for the first time once. But I've had a second display hooked up the whole time (until today). I honestly wouldn't of even noticed it if I hadn't read this forum previously Lol. But I have had the display disconnected a few other times before and it either didn't happen or I simply hadn't noticed it

100% of the customers with 5700XT have the White Horizontal Line of Doom (whether they know it or not).
I applaud you for coming back to this forum to report it.

I agree. It’s awesome to see people come back and admit they too have the issue when they finally notice.

I am certain as well that it affects all 5700 XT machines, but remember that ignorance is bliss and some people will point blank fight you on it. ?

Okay something truly odd is going on here.

Last night, 4+ hours of usage, no flashing white line. This morning I use it for a couple hours, nothing. I'm out all day and get home about 3 hours ago and have been using the iMac since, again no flashing white line. Then as I'm using my iMac and playing around, I wanted to see if the Aerial screen saver would look any different if I change to a scaled resolution.

I typically stick with the default, but decide to change it to More Space (3200x1800) and then this happens (forgive the horrible quality and lighting conditions):

View attachment 947264
I have True Tone off and have Night Shift enabled, which has been on since sundown. Upon changing the resolution, half the screen is still in Night Shift, the other half not. My display is having an identity crisis! It persists this way until I change the resolution back to Default, then back to More Space, and it's back to normal.

Unable to duplicate this random occurrence anymore no matter what resolution settings I pick, if I enable/disable True Tone and Night Shift, etc.

This may or may not be related to the flashing white line that seems to pop up for us 5700XT owners. Has anyone heard or seen this happen on any previous generation of 27" 5K iMacs?

My iMac 2020 has 5500 XT, not 5700, it has the same issue as yours when I was changing Night Shift and resolution. I took this screenshot.

Curious to hear if the same is happening on yours.

It definitely looks like a driver or macOS glitch to me. I had hardware issues with another AMD card many years ago and it was pretty obvious because it went from full screen glitches in any app or situation to outright freezes.

This is obviously an iMac-specific card from AMD but I was reading about Windows users having driver issues with another 5000 series card from AMD (I think it's the RX 5### XT) and it took AMD forever to fix it, it looks like.

Because it seems to be this specific, I was also wondering if the macOS pre-installation done at the factory in itself is somehow corrupted.
I have the 2020 iMac i7 with the 5700 and it also does the flickering on the corners

The user "John90976" wrote that he experienced it on his 5700XT Imac with some performance degradation over time in video games (Has anyone else experienced this?)
link to his post in another thread:https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...c.2248978/page-22?post=28856572#post-28856572

Hes the only one that has reported it so far that I've seen. It seems that nearly all of the users (both Imac and MBP) that has tested Windows 10 boot camp has experienced no glitches.
They’ve responded in the meantime: https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...rks-the-last-intel-imac.2248978/post-28861941.

Also on the Apple Support Communities the number of complaints are significantly increasing and more and more writers are postponing and returning their machines. Come on Apple, give us a shout !

I’m just wondering, of those who are returning their machines, what are they buying instead?

On the Apple Support Communities on this post :
( Sep 8, 2020 12:52 PM ) airpoint seems to expose a "patch" with success.

While I wait for the iMac fixes or perhaps discount prices later in the cycle, I bought one of these instead so I can get about the city without using buses or the metro.

Yes we know about those ‘workarounds’, but that is not a “patch”. We are all waiting for Apple to make a move.
