I'm on my second 2020 iMac 27 inch 5700XT. First one had the screen line glitch and was also shutting off without warning. This video is the replacement Apple sent me and out the box even before migrating my information I captured the glitching on video. Called AppleCare again and they wanted me to do a third exchange. Not sure if I should go through the hassle or just do a full refund. The lines appear very randomly and sometimes not at all for several hours while I am editing. Also, fan is always on even in idle or doing small tasks. Is this normal? my room is very quiet so I hear it. Not loud, but I hear the air coming out the vents.

I cannot believe they want to swap the machine a 3rd time. ?‍♂️ Talk about a case of the right hand not knowing what the left hand is doing! What in the world, Apple? What are you telling your people internally?

Please share this video with Apple. Ask to speak to a senior advisor and have them escalate it to engineering.

Re the fans, it’s not just you. I suspect if you look at idle temps you’ll see them quite high as well, maybe 50-60. The air blowing out the back is noticably warmer than my 2017 iMac.

However, although I have corroborated this with other people, on the other hand some people report idle temps closer to 30-40 degrees and total silence, so I don’t know what’s going on there.

So apparently the 5700 GPU is giving Apple fits in general. It’s not just wonky on the iMac. It is also a mess on the Mac Pro. Issues have been hanging around for many months. I don’t know who’s dropping the ball the most, AMD or Apple? Either way, they should be devoting a team of engineers to this. If AMD can’t get things straight, Apple should lend them a hand!

I suspect Apple is suffering under the weight of its own success. This is an issue that should have been addressed publicly by Apple days ago. Think of all the customers (CUSTOMERS!) who are being inconvenienced by having to return or exchange their iMacs. That reduces brand equity. I couldn't believe I was seeing graphical glitching during the setup process. It's impossible for Apple not to have seen this in their testing. Because I cannot believe Apple's QC is this bad, the only logical conclusion I can come to is that Apple knew about it and released the produced anyway.

Dan Riccio is Apple's senior vice president of Hardware Engineering and leads the Mac, iPhone, iPad and iPod engineering teams. He is the person the media and customers should be looking to. His email address cannot be difficult to figure out, I say all of us with this issue email him directly and start a campaign.

I think you are right that they have known about these issues all along. The infuriating part is they play stupid when you call in. And not only do they play stupid at the low level support tier (which I’ll give the benefit of doubt to), but they also play stupid all the way up the chain of command. That’s been my personal experience anyway. It’s quite insulting for them to keep asking customers to pile on the info that we all know they already have. It feels dishonest in an almost mocking way. How about you do your job Apple and earn the BILLIONS you’re making?

Imagine this seeing every day , seven days a week, 7 years long.... that’s a lot of glitches ?

That would be driccio@apple.com BTW ?

This is so sad. Swapping for a new computer will produce the same result.

Why hasn’t Apple sent an internal memo to all employees regarding this issue? How is low level/high level tech support unaware of the issue?

Tim, if your reading this......the ship is sinking!

These ‘no’ votes on the 5700 XT are seriously making me question people’s vision/attention spans. ?
I'm one of those no voters. I thought I saw it once, but turned out to be an ad in the corner of my screen. I honestly haven't seen it yet, though I haven't been thinking about it during my time on, so it's possible it's there. But I also think this speaks to how trivial this issue is to me. Not everyone else, just me. I've been in Windows 10, gaming on both Mac and Windows, using a variety of apps and still haven't noticed it. I also haven't noticed anything about the corners of my open windows either.

So for me, two takeaways: it's not worth losing sleep over, and it will likely be patched - one way or another - and until such time, I'll be fine.

What screen resolution are you using?
I saw it when I was running default (2560x1440) resolution but switching to 3200x1800 has made the issue go away (I think).

Oh it’s there. And you’re a lucky one for not being ‘sensitive’ to it. I hope you’re right about a fix, but I wouldn’t hold my breath. Apple has never addressed the issues with the 5700 in the Mac Pro. That’s been going on for many months.

It's known that changing the screen resolution makes the White Thunder go away.

Just received my iMac and it won’t even boot. So much for testing the graphics card. It just cycles through low fan speed and high fan speed, no other alerts or anything on screen.

I've been working on mine since I got it at launch. Zero visual issues. And before you accuse me of "not being sensitive to it", graphical glitches like that drive me nuts. I had a MacBook Pro that suffered something similar to what has been shown and I couldn't even use it. If I hadn't seen it on the initial boot video, I'd question if it was a priority thing in the drawing routines between an app and the OS, but happening that clean it likely isn't.

Fan idle speed is 1200 rpm, but yours sounds pretty loud on the video. I hear the high pitched buzz someone else recorded and posted.

Right, then Apple has released a huge batch of machines with ‘faulty hardware’ that will all have to be recalled and replaced...

Despite this graphical glitch, one thing does at least work on the 5700XT - output over Display Port to a 144Hz monitor in Windows. This refresh rate is smooooooth!

Maybe AMD’s driver focus is all on Windows. ?

Arislan, are you saying that you're not even seeing the corner glitch? Also, how long have you had the iMac?
