I have to say my all-time biggest mistake was selling my old 2015 before the new one arrived. It was flawless, and while I didn’t need a computer for the less than two week downtime, I certainly will feel the emptiness waiting for another BTO.

I got a good offer, but it wasn’t worth it!

Are you ordering another machine?

I've been working on mine since I got it at launch. Zero visual issues. And before you accuse me of "not being sensitive to it", graphical glitches like that drive me nuts. I had a MacBook Pro that suffered something similar to what has been shown and I couldn't even use it. If I hadn't seen it on the initial boot video, I'd question if it was a priority thing in the drawing routines between an app and the OS, but happening that clean it likely isn't.
Are they all made in the same factory? Mine shipped from Cork Ireland and has an occasional glitch.

I’ve had one from Ireland and one from China. Same issues. There are no exceptions, contrary to what some would have you believe.

Managed to get a video of it yesterday. I count 12 glitches in just over 90 seconds:

If you manage to catch it again using a similar window on top of another one, could you try to move the frontmost window up / down the screen to see if the white line changes its position?

What screen resolution are you using?
I saw it when I was running default (2560x1440) resolution but switching to 3200x1800 has made the issue go away (I think).
Default, Automatically Adjust Brightness, True Tone
I did note that changing resolutions might help, but so far I haven't noticing anything so I haven't bothered. I did play around with the scale, but ended up leaving it at default.

Oh it’s there. And you’re a lucky one for not being ‘sensitive’ to it. I hope you’re right about a fix, but I wouldn’t hold my breath. Apple has never addressed the issues with the 5700 in the Mac Pro. That’s been going on for many months.
I don't for a second doubt it's there. I just haven't seen it.

You might not be sad. Depends on your tolerance level. Personally I can’t stand the random flickering white line and the square corners. It’s ugly and Apple should be ashamed.

Not due to arrive until 9/23, maybe there will be a driver update.

For me, the computer has been amazing. I haven’t been so productive in years. I do have an external 1440p display connected but that’s been my plan all along. With the display connected, it’s literally flawless. I am glad I ordered day 1.

Packed up and shipped the DOA model as a return before dinner tonight.

Making my new order now…

I’ll be in trouble if I have to go all of September without a proper computer. Going from the perfection of my max spec Late-2015 5K iMac to my base model Early-2011 13-inch MacBook Pro has been a bit of shock.

I've been following this post since Tally Ho Tech's video came out. Coming from the Mid-Summer 2011 top spec iMac with the Radeon HD 6970M (and baking it in the oven to keep it going with diminishing return), I've waited a long time to upgrade from an older system and was pretty excited about this one until realizing I ordered the 5700 XT that would also have GPU challenges.

Finally got my iMac today and got things set up with as a new machine (no migration or any file transfers yet).
i7, 5700 XT, 1 TB, 8 GB RAM (will add more tomorrow but wanted to see if it made a difference to start with), shipped from China, True Tone enabled.

As expected, I saw several (3) white line glitches during setup. None since but I haven't spent enough time on yet. I suspect more will be forthcoming. I see the corner issues as well but I probably wouldn't have noticed had I not read about it here. I'll be reporting to Apple tomorrow. Along with everyone else here I'm hoping for a SW fix. I've waited a long time to upgrade and another iMac with HW GPU issues would make me pretty sad. If nothing else, knowing there were issues before my system arrived took some of the edge off of my excitement.

I'm coming from the same mid-2011 iMac and same spec 2020 iMac as yours.
I've switched the resolution to smaller text (as I personally like more desktop space) and have not seen the white line flashes. I think the overall improvements over the 2011 is substantial that I can overlook this initial software issue for now. It runs much cooler than the old design and I think it is quieter because the vents are all on the rear instead of on the top edge. Anyway, I'm going to keep this unless I confront new issues that points to hardware defect.
On the other hand, I'm having a hard time getting used to the new wireless rechargeable keyboard (w/ num pad) and trackpad. The older keys and trackpad had more tactile feedback... but the battery life majorly sucked.

I’m going to put my new machine through its paces a bit more before I decide anything one way or another but I’m a bit boxed in because my old system is no longer reliable for even basic tasks without the screen crapping out. I was thinking about turning the 2011 iMac LCS panel into a second monitor to begin with but maybe now is an even better idea what with it being a potential glitch ‘fix’.
The new mouse and keyboard feel ok so far, but I did just recently have to buy a big batch of AA’s to feed the old ones not knowing how long it would take to deliver the new iMac so I might play with both.

Why don't we write an e-mail right up to Tim Cook stating our glitch issue and ask for his help out with the problem. We have spent thousands of dollar for our iMac's and we are loyal customers to Apple. I think this is our right to send such an e-mail. With the names of ours listed on e-mail.

My Imac arrived on Monday the 7th, from Ireland. Configuration: i7, 5700XT, 1TB, 32gb crucial.

No white line problems so far (only in the initial setup I saw a quick flash on the left, but I never saw the white line again). Default resolution always.

Silent doing normal tasks: Browser, Youtube, watching images, listening to music, etc. (Typing this, cold air comes out from behind, lol).

I sometimes see (when I move the windows) the square corners of the top of the bar, but if they don't say it on the forums, I think I would never have seen it.

I played LoL once at 2k resolution with 220-240 fps all the time and the fan was a bit audible but nothing outrageous.

All the most perfect.

So you saw the white line issue during setup? Therefore you HAVE the problem.

Any theories on whether the White Line of Doom appears more or less after restarting the computer or rebooting from a cold boot?

In the alternative, if the computer is on for a long period of time, does the white line happen less or more?

Re the fans, it’s not just you. I suspect if you look at idle temps you’ll see them quite high as well, maybe 50-60. The air blowing out the back is noticably warmer than my 2017 iMac.

However, although I have corroborated this with other people, on the other hand some people report idle temps closer to 30-40 degrees and total silence, so I don’t know what’s going on there.

Maybe it’s 50-60 while the iMac is indexing when first setup and then settles down to 30-40 when the indexing is finished?

Exactly. It does not ‘go away’. There are NO exceptions. It makes me chuckle just how high a threshold some people have to call a flawed machine from day one ‘near perfect’. Talk about letting Apple off easy. To each their own I suppose.

Yes, it’s indexing. Totally normal.
