I've toyed around with the larger resolution as well when troubleshooting the White Lightning. I kinda liked it as well. But somehow I found myself reverting back to the default resolution.

Received my iMac with the 5700XT today. Saw one line during setup. Changed the display setting to larger text [2048 x 1152] which I would of done anyway, and have yet to see another line after 5 hours of use, FWIW.

Will report back if that changes.
You will not see the glitch again with a resolution set to anything other than 'default'.

I guess I am being optimistic in thinking that maybe, just maybe, Apple does indeed watch these threads (actually I know for a fact they do) and by not 'rolling' over and settling for 'workarounds', that it might indeed encourage them to do the right thing, and in a timely manner. ;)
I remain optimistic as well: I did keep the machine beyond its return window. It's not a showstopper (as stated) but this is not acceptable. I did not pay almost five grand for a machine with a video card that almost works. It is not what the Apple experience is supposed to be. It's supposed to work. 100%. This falls under "does not work as advertised" and I hope they will remedy it as soon as possible.

Not sure how people can handle a larger relative resolution, I find the text hard to read sometimes even at the native ‘1440p’ style.

Add me to the list with the Mac Pro - the W5700X experiences the same graphical glitches. AMD issue for sure as even the PC guys are complaining about these Navi cards, but because Apple is using them in their products by extension it becomes an Apple issue.

I am not surprised to hear that the W5700X in the Mac Pro also has the same problem but it is good to see confirmation. I suspect the issue is common with all Navi GPUs and is a driver issue. The 5600M is basically the same GPU and the 5700 is almost identical too.

Seems like different regions / countries have different information. Two different co-workers visited two stores regarding this here in Australia. One in Robina and one in Sydney. The technical lead genius (unsure of the job title) in Robina said that they are currently collecting information regarding this for all computers with the AMD 5xxx desktops and laptops since they've had returns of both Imacs, MBP's and Mac Pro's where they all experienced the white glitch.

I got the same answer in Brisbane, where the employee said that they were aware of the glitching for all AMD 5xxx desktops / laptops and were accepting returns if requested but couldn't say anything more.

The Apple employees in Sydney had only handled MacBook Pro's with the glitching and my co-workers Imac was the first Imac to be returned due to this problem with no previous knowledge regarding it and exchanged for a new one (that of course still has the problem).
He referred them to this thread to show pictures and videos of it which they apparently noted down to use as a reference in the future.

There was some posters in the early stages of this thread where the Apple stores in Russia and UK had no knowledge of this either. Is the information shared between stores limited by state / countries? Because that could be a reason why Brisbane and Robina had similar information (Queensland) while Sydney had no information of it (New South Wales).

I am sure the level of knowledge of this issue various across Apple even within the same store. I doubt it is by State.

I was interested to hear what the "technical lead genius" said about the scope of the problem though. That is good news for two reasons, firstly it means this is very unlikely to be a hardware issue and secondly if it affects all Navi GPU equipped Macs, Apple will be giving this their full attention.

I suspect Apple is suffering under the weight of its own success. This is an issue that should have been addressed publicly by Apple days ago. Think of all the customers (CUSTOMERS!) who are being inconvenienced by having to return or exchange their iMacs. That reduces brand equity. I couldn't believe I was seeing graphical glitching during the setup process. It's impossible for Apple not to have seen this in their testing. Because I cannot believe Apple's QC is this bad, the only logical conclusion I can come to is that Apple knew about it and released the produced anyway.

Of course they knew about it. The problem apparently already existed in Navi GPU equipped Macs before the 2020 iMac was shipped. Exchanging your iMac would be pointless though unless you plan to get a Vega equipped Mac such as the 2019 iMac, the iMac Pro or the Mac Pro with one of the non-Navi cards.

Assuming this is a software issue, I don't see much inconvenience at all to be honest. Owning a MacBook with a Butterfly keyboard would be much more inconvenient. If Apple's brand equity can survive that, this should not affect it at all.

Add me to the list. Just got it today and noticed it while adjusting settings. Didn’t see it at startup but it’s there.
iMac 2020 i7 8Core, 5700XT 16GB, 64GB RAM OWC

Hopefully it gets fixed soon though I’ll end up using another monitor anyway when I move it up to my main office.

I switched to 2880x1620 the other day and it hasn't happened since. But I really do prefer the default scale.

Is the line glitch only white for folks? I could have sworn I saw black lines (similar to the white ones) today also though mostly out of the corner of my eye. I also only noticed the line glitches on the right or left panel of the display that the mouse was on, though perhaps just because it was where I was focusing. Also curious if others have noticed any pattern of the glitch occurring exclusively or predominantly on the side and approximate level that the selected window is on.

I wonder if the Catalina supplemental update that was nearly released yesterday was cancelled because they want to include a fix for the 5700xt flickering white lines issue ? (ref: 9to5Mac article)

PS: Black Lines Matter too

I have not seen this occur with mine, and my return window is closing in...

For reference I have the 10-Core i9 - 64GB RAM - 5700XT 16GB - Nano Display

Is there something specific that is done that causes this to happen or is it just a random thing that can occur at any time. I have had mine for 10 days and have not seen any type of white line flash on the screen at any point in time.

It's called White Lightning for a reason.
Glitch happens near the mouse pointer.

It's random. You should watch the videos posted in this thread so you know what you're looking for. It also happens really fast, so you might only see in corner of your eye.

It seemed like I was able to trigger it earlier today while scrolling websites using gestures on the mouse. It happened twice in less than a minute, but I haven't been able to make it happen again.

What I did notice was the line appeared on the same half of the screen my mouse pointer was residing. I was able to make it happen on both the left and right side of the screen and I had purposely moved my mouse from the left side to the right side of the screen.

I’ve noticed the same thing. It usually happens around the area the mouse pointer is in.

DAY 38 WITH NO FIXES

When I see the while lines it always seems to be the same distance up from the bottom of the screen, it just happens on either the left or right side of the screen. I haven't seen the line appear higher or lower when it does appear.

Same here. Left or right of the pointer.
