iMac shipping status?

I have used both and I can assure you that the 24" iMac is just as good. I don't know if they use the same panel, but they do look a bit similar. The iMac display looks a bit better to my eyes. It might be the glass cover that improves the impression though.

It's not a TN display, I can tell you that. I'm not sure if they even make TN panels that large.

I think you will be very happy with the 24" iMac.

Thanks. That's reassuring. I was very disheartened after I made my big decision and then they did that 20" opening and found it had a TN panel. It seemed pretty logical that the 24" would have a panel from the same family.
I guess it was just my natural pessimism coming out.

I'm London based too I have tried contacting customer support for an update to no avail. Why is european shipping taking so long compared to US shipping by the way?

It didn't take long to ship mine to Sweden. About 3 days. 1 day from China to Sweden and 2 days to get it the 200 kilometers to my house :D
 
Well my replacement 24" 2.8 arrived today!! I ordered on the 8th, cancelled and changed (reordered) early on the 9th. I rec'd my original unit very quickly even with ground shipping on the 13th and sent it back due to screen issues on the 14th and today, the 20th my replacement arrived. I had hoped to get it by last Friday but it was too much to hope for. Crossing my fingers that when I get home and set up the replacement that there are no issues. Bummer is I am leaving town on Thursday morning till next Monday, so I won't get much time with it before I leave.
 
Woo-hoo. 24" imac arrived in beantown this morning, after sitting at the airport all weekend :( I'll have to duck home at lunch to start the 'transfer' process...

Take a photo of it so you can carry it around in your wallet ;)

I hope your replacement turns out fine. I ordered my replacement today. I hope that I at least get it by monday and that I won't have to replace it again :)

After much consideration I decided to stick with the 2.4GHz. It is plenty fast and I think that I rather spend that money on a future upgrade instead. Perhaps a good mobile quad core will show up in a year or two. That would be a significant increase.
 
I just got my 24" iMac Intel Core 2 Extreme 2.8GHz w/ 1TB HD and 4GB Ram Computer in the mail!!! (well.. FedEX)

First Impressions...
Wow the screen is HUGE (previously, the largets display we had was 20") and wow this thing is a screamer. Also, I love the glossy display. I am having no problems with mine at all. I had to turn the brightness down a bit, but that's it.

note: FedEx shows it's status as "Package data transmitted". As others have mentioned FedEx has a pretty major delay in their information for tracking.

I'll post more updates as it progresses.

Update (11am):
tracking shows package received but...
something else refers to "received after FedEx cutoff". looks like it won't ship out of China on their Friday.

Update (830pm Eastern Sat 18)
Status: "International Shipment Release" -- Anchorage, Alaska

It's cleared customs in Alaska!!! I should see it here in Atlanta in the next day or so. More updates to come.

Hope all these updates have been of some help. Just goes to show (for us in the US at least) that you will probably get it sooner than predicted.

Good luck to all of you dealing with TNT and others. Hang in there though :):) You'll be glad that you did. As soon as you have it, you'll never look back and think about how long it took to get to you :):)

Standard 20" 2.4ghz model, why the long wait? oh well. I think is should get applecare free as well. who knows!.
 
How many people have actually not had any status updates until the "Ships by" date has reached? I ordered on the 14th, have a "Ships By" of 21st-23rd, and haven't had any status updates (it still says "Not yet shipped").

no status either...but i just ordered sunday 19th off canada education store!
 
My status on apple.com has been updated with the "Assigned Carrier" and is is UK DISTRIBUTION CENTER - can I track this now??

Not yet, but you should be able to very soon when it changes to UPS and there's a long number starting 1Z.
 
I ordered on the 10th. Said ships by 21~24th.
It's the 21st here and still says not yet shipped.
Guess NZ is a long way down the Apple totem pole.

So i called Apple and explained i needed before sept 2! and then they gave me express for free!
