I am wondering why this is!!! My package is already in my local Denver sort facility, so it should be delivered tomorrow, however, my commitment date also says Tuesday. Why does FedEx waste my time?

I don't get it either. Must be something to do with Monday backlog.

BTW, my iMac, which arrived in Mississauga on Saturday morning 7am, didn't go out on this morning's truck, so I have to wait to tomorrow even though it's sitting 28 km from my home. :-(

I wonder why I paid for expedited shipping ... even though they're technically fulfilling their 2-5 day policy, it's still frustrating to be able to see it just sit there. Me thinks FedEx needs to learn something about LEAN processes (ala Toyota).

My iMac is in the same shipment as yours, I also live in Toronto and all our fedex updates have been the same. I called fedex and asked why it didn't go out. They said they seem to have a problem and said they think it should be delivered tomorrow, but that they will call me tomorrow morning to let me know whats up. Perhaps you should do the same. Needless to say I'm a little ticked.

I just got off the phone with FedEx, they claimed that the shipment is still containerized until Tuesday because the shipper (Apple) requested 2-day delivery, which is slower than overnight. They normally would load packages for delivery immediately if it were a true FedEx overnight delivery.

I recall seeing some call Apple directly to get their 2-day expedited upgraded to overnight for a fee (~$40), which seems to be what we should have done last week. :-(

Here's what I was told today...

After I ordered my 2.8 on the 12th, I called Apple on the 13th to request an upgrade to Expedited shipping and they said that have an overnight option as well to which I replied "great. I'll take that." Overnight shipping was indicated in my status but nothing happened until yesterday, the 19th. Up to that time, it said shipping between the 16th and 20th and arriving between the 17th and the 21st. Then yesterday, it finally switched over to being ready for shipping. When I woke up this morning, I checked the status and saw that fedex had picked it up but that it had "missed the cutoff" (and I see that I am not the only person that happened to) whatever the heck that means. The result is that now it will not be delivered until the 23rd. I called Apple to ask about this and told them that I had upgraded to overnight shipping. The apple guy said that they do not do overnight shipping from China because it has to go through customs and will always take 2-3 days at least even with expedited shipping. I literally arranged my entire schedule for this week around the thing arriving tomorrow and my having to take it and my old G4 tower to the apple store for file transfer assistance. All I can say is, the iMac had better be in perfect working order because G-d help them if it isn't. Also, I really find it frustrating that Apple lists the 2.8 model as a stock model but none of the stores actually seem to keep that model in stock.

Yeah. It does look that way on the Store page but on iMac pages it clearly says:
"iMac features the Intel Core 2 Duo processor at speeds up to 2.4GHz. And for maximum power, you can upgrade the 24-inch iMac to an Intel Core 2 Extreme processor at 2.8GHz."

I thought this was appropriate since Macs are delivered by FedEx.

This is a YouTube video of an evening FedEx push into Memphis when some thunderstorms roll in. Watch at the end as a lot of the planes divert to other airports...you can almost HEAR the MacAddicts scream when their iMac isn't delivered that day!!

In case you're wondering, all that wasn't done by one one air traffic controller...more like 5 or 6.

Enjoy!!

It's not just on store.apple.com. If you choose any Apple retail store and then choose to shope online at that store, you have the same option. Also, I know for a fact that the week before last, the store at the Burlington, MA had the high end model. Unfortunately, they were sold out of them when my wife and I arrived last Sunday to pick one up.

8 days since i ordered my 24" with 500gb hdd and still on Not Yet Shipped :( Checking the order status constantly is driving me insane!

But at first glance, it looks like the top-end 2.8 iMac is a standard, off the shelf option. The lead-time should give you a clue that its a BTO though.

Some Apple stores will just order a few of the 2.8 one to have in stock.

Mine is finally out for delivery today, it was ordered the morning after the announcement and I'm based in the UK.

Mine is out for delivery in the UK today too. So excited I could burst. Keep jumping up to the window like a meercat every time I hear an engine.

It's common practice for shipping carriers not to deliver packages until the scheduled delivery/deliver by date...if their standard 2- or 3-day air services were consistently faster than 2 or 3 days, then they would have less people using their next-day/overnight services. I'm sure Apple has a bit of markup on upgraded shipping costs as well. And shippers can explicitly request a deliver-on or deliver-no-earlier-than date.

Unbelievable.

iMac is on a van in my area but they can't deliver it to me as they lost the Applecare jiffy bag and have just found it in the depot. Apple won't let them do part shipments, so I have to take another day off work tomorrow and wait for it to come in.

At least UPS phoned me, but I'm just fed up tbh. How can it take so long to get a computer sent out to me in this day and age? I give up. If I could buy this spec locally I'd go out now and just refuse delivery tomorrow but unfortunately I can't get the 2.8 anywhere.

Just an update for you England residents, I got on the phone to apple customer support about trying to get an exact delivery date and the guy on the line was most helpful. They offered to flag the order to make sure it gets out as early as possible and if it doesnt they have offered to contact order management in shanghai to get it out of there as soon as possible. It might be worth calling in if you are as impatient as I am especially if you have to work and will have issues taking time off to sign for the package etc. Yes I know they can deliver to the workplace but I didnt really want to lug it around on the underground and risk being robbed.

OK, that's weird. imac arrived by fedex yesterday, but applecare arrived by standard USPS today...

what's your configuration & country?

Ordered a 24" 2.8 on the 14th. Estimated shipping the 21st - 23rd. Status is still "Not yet shipped". Got fingers crossed that it ships today. How long did people have the preparing to ship status for?

How many people have actually not had any status updates until the "Ships by" date has reached? I ordered on the 14th, have a "Ships By" of 21st-23rd, and haven't had any status updates (it still says "Not yet shipped").

jf8, I ordered mine on the same day(8/14), have the same 'ships by' dates and I'm still waiting for a status update as well.

May as well post my stats too:

Ships by:

Aug 27 - Aug 29

Delivers by:

Aug 29 - Sep 5

Ordered 2.8 Ghz 24" standard configuration on 8/18. Still "not yet shipped" status. And still tempted to pu a 2.4 Ghz at the local Apple store if they get some in...don't know why I'm so impatient with this order...new toy lust I suppose...plus the instant gratification urge is strong-I've yet to buy from an Apple retail store and experience the joy of walking out with a new Mac. I've always either ordered from Amazon or Apple online store.
