thats the situation on my imac and i just phoned TNT asking whether they had anymore information and the guy said that as long as it clears customs i should def have in on wed :D

Hi there,

How long did it take to ship? And did you order the 2 gigs of ram from the :apple: store ore do you plan to upgrade the ram yourself?

I've order the 2.8 ghz 24 inch model, that's the only upgrade that I've made.....I placed my order on the 15th of august and I'm still waiting. The Apple reseller doesn't provide any tracking information :(

it seems like you and a few other members have had the same problem with resellers not giving them any info or tracking.

Even though some people are telling you stories about how much apple service sucks. If you call in, act very patient and nice but explain to them that the situation is starting to bug you they will make it right.

100 percent true. Most of the time it doesn't pay to be a jerk to the Apple reps. Out of all the companies I've dealt with Apple is at the top of the list. They generally seem to care about your situation and want to "get it right". But like any company, there are few bad seeds :D

I ordered mine from authorized apple dealer on Aug. 14th in the morning!
And today is Sept. 4th! NO IMAC YET. 3 Frigging weeks!
I only upgraded the processor to 2.8Ghz and will upgrade the RAM myself as apple charges to much for too much for RAM upgrade. Hoping I will get the iMac early this week. That's BS that resellers have no tracking.

I feel your pain......Next time I order an imac I'll order directly from the :apple: store......At least you can call them and get free Apple Care if you start crying....lol

Just received my iMac about 20 minutes ago. Too bad it's sitting at home like a champ, and I stuck at work like a chump.

Counting down the hours... Now I've got to break through of my Windows mindset and start swimming around in OS X.

Any recommendations on good windows parallel software? VMWare Fusion, Bootcamp, Parallels? How often do you use it?

First make a Windows partition with the Bootcamp Assistant and install windows, then install Parallels 3.0. Parallels is able to use the same partition as Bootcamp, so that doesn't cost you extra hd space! Haven't tried out Fusion yet.......

Just arrived!

My iMac 24" 2.8 just arrived. Just checking and so far 1 dead pixel in lower right corner - not really noticeable since the screen is so big. Checking for others.

Anyone think it's worth reloading the OS X to remove unused languages, trialware etc?

Ready to toss in my 4GB RAM then see how this baby rocks!

I've got both Bootcamp and Parallels. Both are great. Remember bootcamp is beta so don't depend heavy on it at the moment.
Parallels is great when needing to do windows work and still have access to OSX (not talking just files but the actuall OS).
I even have crossover installed as well, dont' like it to much, prefer the VM method to windows based applications.

Only trialware I had on mine was Office and it has a "remove office" option in the folder. I ran that (wasn't sure if it helped) then deleted the folder.
Couldn't find any other trialware on my machine.

left everything else there

i am using parallels to run xp and have used it a few times but was wondering whether you gave it all the ram to use or just some of it?

Delivered this morning!

Yay! I had just enough time to transfer my settings from my MBP and then had to head off to some appointments. Now I'm back playing and checking things out.

So far, so great...LOVE this keyboard! The only thing that I've found so far that's a little strange is that in the upper right corner of the screen there are one or two tiny dark spots that I thought were possibly dead pixels as they're dark gray in color. Only thing is that they tend to be only visible at certain angles. If I look at them from different angles, they seem to "move" in and out of visibility. I'm thinking they might be dust specks on the inside of the glass? I'm not too worried about it as it's in the upper corner anyway...not like it's the middle of the screen-and it's only noticeable on a white or vivid color background in that area. Certainly not worth going thru the hassle of a replacement-and you never know if the replacement is going to have something worse wrong with it!

All things considered, I'm a happy camper!

WOOHOOO Glad you got it. Yah I love the keyboard too. Took some getting used to now it's very comfortable to use. Still getting used to the mouse, I keep my logitech close by and plugged in when I get frustrated but haven't used it that much. I'm wanting to work with the mighty mouse to get the full "Apple" feel.

Good for you on it finally coming in. My comp IPod is sitting at my front door waiting for me.

I haven't noticed any dead areas at all. I did wonder about the right side of my screen (just the edge) seemed darker but at other times it seems normal, guess it's prolly due to me having the dimmer down that might be giving that impression. Other than that, screen looks to gorgeous to find any flaws with it.

Have to check when I get home. I mostly need it for my visual studio/c# programming so I'm not in much need of super ram. Just enough to run my coding.

Yes! Just got mine this morning. (24", 2.8 Extreme, 1TB HD, 2GB) It was scheduled to be ordered tomorrow, but came a day early from FedEx. Only problem - I'm out of town for work today and won't get home until I fly back tomorrow evening!!! Aaarrgh!!! Oh well... gotta work to pay for it I suppose. I can just picture it upstairs, sitting in it's shipping box next to an empty desk, just waiting to be unpacked and turned on... sigh.

Yeah, I have that in upper right corner, they flicker a bit especially when you use the pixel test programs and set to one color. Not a dead pixel, suspect dust as well but not noticeable most of the time. I have one dead pixel in lower right but I agree not worth the trouble with replacement. The screens are so big that unless it's dead center you don't notice unless you know where to look.

First take your own advice. You just said you needed to break out of your Windows mindset (and you will be happy when you truly do) but then you ask for recommendations on software to run Windows on your brand new Mac OS X computer. :D
Now that I have given you a hard time because I know you are excited about getting home to play with that new aluminum wonder I would go for VMWare Fusion. I am using it on my new iMac as well. The unity mode alone is worth the purchase along with requiring lower system resources than Parallels. Have fun!

Wow the pixel scare immediately makes you wanna check your new computer the moment it is out of the box. Sorry to hear about that but I am with you, I just took delivery last weekend on my new 24" 2.8 model, at any rate I had already decided to stick the restore disc in and erase and start over fresh to remove all those languages and anything else.

It's much easier to do it this way, don't let anyone talk you into deleting this file or that one as it may not get rid of all the languages. Just reformat and do a clean install. Also you may want to remove the extra print drivers you won't need and even the MS Office Test Drive if you plan on installing your own copy or iWork.
If you are not into Garageband then that's another good reason for reformat and install.
It's best to do this before you get too acquainted with your new iMac.:)

So, I think yours should be delivered in a day or two at the latest. Good luck!!!

I have the same damned thing in the same place. To me it looks looks like a tiny drop of oil or some type of "schmoo" inside the glass. Could be a factory issue, i.e., something in the process reproducibly marking the glass or the LCD itself (hard to tell which). Anyway, I'm fully with you guys--no big deal and I'm too busy enjoying this new monster to worry about it!

woo-hoo got it today !

5 minutes to unbox, 5 minutes to setup and get online.

fantastic. like the kbd a lot. mouse, meh it's ok

screen is BIG and seems too high, may have to go with a lower table. will give it some time I guess

Upgrading from a 450MHz G3, this thing is blazing. I am happy with the keyboard (wired), the mouse will take some getting used to (also wired) as I still don't know what all the buttons do. Click and drag seems to be a little awkward. I hope that little bitty scroll ball holds up OK. It seems a little skeet. All in all, I am very happy with my purchase.

If you are truly upset by the situation and you have a valid reason, which you do, just ask and I'm sure apple will do something for you.

I'm not really upset. I rarely get upset :) But it has been really inconvenient since I've only had my MacBook to work on, and the 13" screen isn't really up for every task. I had to postpone some projects because of it (and try to explain the issue to my clients).

It seems like I will get the iMac tomorrow, which is the last promised delivery date. But considering that the support person I spoke to said that she gave it highest priority I really wonder what the mean.

I'll just call them an tell them the truth. That I wanted to order a wireless keyboard from start but didn't want it to get delayed, and now it's already been a month so I could just as well have ordered it. Perhaps they'll give me one for free, who knows.

You don't need to "reload" OS X to remove software or languages.
Here is how to remove languages:
