I have the same damned thing in the same place. To me it looks looks like a tiny drop of oil or some type of "schmoo" inside the glass. Could be a factory issue, i.e., something in the process reproducibly marking the glass or the LCD itself (hard to tell which). Anyway, I'm fully with you guys--no big deal and I'm too busy enjoying this new monster to worry about it!

If the dust, or "schmoo" or whatever it is, really bothered me, I'd pull the glass off and clean it. But, I don't even notice it's there and it's definitely not worth the trouble or risk of getting even more dust under it by removing it...at least IMHO. I'm just gonna continue to enjoy it just the way it is!

In the same line of thinking, I almost had myself talked out of doing the whole Pixel Check thing-but I guess old habits are hard to break! But when you think about it, unless it's really obvious, why worry if you have a stuck or dead pixel? I'd bet half the time you'd never even know it was there unless you purposefully looked for it.

Thanks for the info! Reinstalled. Yeah, definitely do the pixel check, I found this app very useful. I barely notice that one stuck pixel since 24" is so big and way too much trouble to complain over that.

that's cool, thanks

I have 1 bad pixel (shows white when you select the "black" screen

not bad out of 2.2 million :D

Up & Running

I can detect NO bad pixels or dust. :)

Depending on where the iMac is sitting, I can see reflections which I never noticed on the Apple 17" Studio display. So far, I've been able to ignore them.

Transferring files now.

still waiting...waiting...waiting...

2.8 Ghz iMac ordered on Aug. 14th! Still waiting, called apple customer service and they could do nothing unless I ordered from them. What a bunch of crap! They don't get about loyal apple customers regadless where you buy from except them. It's almost a month, as my shipment is on the skid along with 191 24" iMacs coming to apple canada warehouse. Arrival date at my door: unknown? Apple customer service insisted I order from them, is he friggin' nuts so I'll wait another 2-3 weeks. Their shipping specs 2-5 days is simply from factory to them, then another week or two to your door.

Canceled with Reseller and Ordered from Apple

I finally canceled the order with a reseller after shipping was reported delayed again to the 3rd week of September. Then I ordered the same item with Apple (2.8 GHz with 750 GB) with delivery expected between September 11-17.

This reseller was attractive for 2 reasons: no sales tax and they buy older systems with the sales price credited towards purchases with the reseller. The reseller was more expensive on RAM than certain other providers but the sales tax savings made up for it.

However, I sold my old system within one day of posting on craigslist and for more than the amount offered by the reseller.

After rebates the reseller would have been about $130 cheaper, minus shipping costs for the old system, than ordering from Apple directly and buying RAM elsewhere.

Eventually I decided that timely delivery was more important than a potential savings of about $100 via rebates.

Finally delivered!!!

After 3.5 weeks my 24 inch, 2.8 Ghz, 4 gigs ram BEAUTIFUL Imac finally arrived.
I could not be happier......screen is flawless, no bad pixels.

For the people still waiting: hang in there guys, it's worth the wait, trust me!!! :)

iMac 2.8Ghz

Well it's been a month since I ordered the iMac from authorized apple reseller and hopefully it'll ship tomorrow or day after the latest. This apple store preferential treatment is a joke. Should not the competition bureau know what tactics apple is doing to reseller stores. I guess resellers don't want to complain too much as they may lose reseller status from apple?

So Rafmac,

Any news on the imac delivery front? ;)

Well, MacMall FINALLY shipped my 2.8 24" iMac, late last night. Still doesn't show up on the UPS tracking system, but I expect it to take a week. Finally getting close to having it.

Canada Shipping Update

So Rafmac,

Any news on the imac delivery front? ;)

Well, here is the update... NO 2.8Ghz iMAC YET... Ordered on August 14th!

Called Apple Canada Consumer Relations (got a case # from apple) and told them the situation of the order not being fulfilled to apple reseller customers, complained that apple online store telling me to cancel the order and order from them, as this is dirty business tactics to drive resellers out of business. I told them that apple online customers are being compensated for deliveries not being extremely late (days) compared to mine (weeks). I can't get compensated by reseller. He said to get an apple order number from reseller and call back and they will look into it and possibly compensate me with something (Free AppleCare, or Leopard, or DotMac?) He asked me if I owned any macs before as he asked for my tel. number to see my profile on their system as it showed I had 4 macs previously and is a loyal customer of apple. Then I got a case number from them as they seem to be all of sudden concerned.

Today I got a call from my reseller who provided me the order number and said it will be shipped on Friday, but he does'nt know from where? China or Warehouse here? Hopefully next week. I will call apple later today and update this info regards apple's side of story and what they can do to help me.

I ordered a 24" IMac CTO along with a wireless keyboard on 7 Aug the day these items were introduced. I had an estimated shipping date of 12 Sep and sure enough, I got my "has been shipped" email today. Those of you waiting for the wireless keyboard should see them shipping shortly. :)

UPDATE: Here is the info from apple and am I ever disappointed with them.

Can you believe it or not... it was'nt even shipped! I called apple canada and they apologized and said there's nothing they can do, the guy originally was going to give me $100 off or even Free AppleCare, my choice, but then he noticed it was an order through reseller and told me to call the other apple dept. I called and they said they only compensate if I bought through them instead of reseller as they passsed the discount to reseller already. Wow, the reseller only made $125 on my order! Small markup and a big headache to deal with constant customers calling him, where is my mac! Since he is someone I know, I told him I deal with it as I don't want to bother him. I will continually call apple everyday until I receive my product and let them know my frustrations as they should treat all customers equal.
I spoke to my friend who ordered MacBookPro 17" from a reseller and waited 3 months!! Now that's friggin' insane apple tactics. It shows they want to drive resellers out of business by telling customers to cancel orders and book through them instead as they told me to do, I told them I am loyal to my reseller for years before you apple store existed for years.

Well, Apple's attitude is if you bought through reseller, too bad, should have bought from us instead. As they were useless and don't want to help. As of Sept.13 it has not been shipped yet.
I am patient, and will not give apple store business for their attitude to drive resellers out.

I saved $238 off the 2.8 24" stock iMac going through a reseller, so I didn't have the heart (or wallet) to cancel and order from Apple. Fortunately, mine finally shipped. I get it (in theory) on Monday. Here's to hoping. It's been over a month.

I ordered my 24" 2.8 on Sept 3 (Labor Day) from the Apple Store. It arrived this morning in perfect condition. :D

Anyone of you out there still waiting for 24" iMacs that were ordered 1st/2nd week of August.:apple:

Mine will be here on Monday.

ordered and paid for in first week of release. Still no info or help from reseller.

The reseller already charged your card? Any company I've dealt with doesn't actually charge anything until it ships. That sucks.

Actually, they charged it twice. They emailed on a friday to explain, but the credit didn't go through until the following tuesday. I had to call my bank to have them waive the overdraw fees because of vendor error. I let them know that I had it straightened out later, and they apparently were unphased. Thanks for the great customer support, Powermax!

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU like Mac OS X; en) AppleWebKit/420+ (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.0 Mobile/1C28 Safari/419.3)

I ordered on the 10th of Aug and still has not shipped... :( Apple resellers are getting the short end of the stick on new products, definately... /sigh

I ordered through a reseller i n the UK and am still waiting. Going to ring them again today and find out what is going on.

Same here, on aug 16th, I ordered a 24" 2.8GHz CTO from a local reseller (in Belgium), and it still hasn't arrived. The reseller claims he doesn't have any more info (eta, ...). I'm getting frustrated, as the main reason I decided to buy an Imac now instead of waiting for a new Mac Pro (oct-nov probably), was to have it during my holiday (which I'm now half-way through)...

Situation Update... Aug. 14 Order

UPDATE: Well, Apple's attitude is if you bought through reseller, too bad, should have bought from us instead. And telling me to cancel reseller order and by from online apple canada. As they were useless and don't want to help. As of Sept.13 it has not been shipped yet.

:mad:Was supposed to ship by Sept.12-14, has not shipped yet, it's Sept.15 in China, Apple Warehouse is closed and not shipping, it's past 4 am there!.

Also, I kept phoning Apple after speaking with various useless departments not willing to help reseller customers, if I was online customer they would help as mentioned before. But anyways, after speaking with Apple Canada Customer Relations for the third time and mentioning my case # and product not shipped yet as mentioned, she just heard my frustration with delays and unfair apple tactics, she put me on hold and came back and apple finally caved in and admitted problems and will send me a $125 voucher towards any apple product purchase. At least it's better than $100 off online customers were crying for and getting instantly or even free wireless upgrades. I am still waiting for a call from distributor as was told by reseller.

Wohoo! Just placed an order for a white 2.16 ghz 20in imac!

Its not from Apple, its from a reseller. Order was received and it says will ship on monday! :D

Thisll be my first mac!
