Now over 3 weeks from order

I ordered a 2.8 with 750 HD on August 14 with an Apple reseller on the West coast of USA. This reseller can track the order and it has repeatedly been pushed back for shipping. What makes this seem even worse is that the Apple store continues to predict shipping for new identical orders as 3-5 business days or less.

Who do you trust? I am patient to a degree, but this is not good for the reseller, the customers or Apple.

Soon!

Hi garyfrom bothell (Washington, I presume). I had the same thing happen here in Portland. Ordered from a reputable Authorized Reseller on the 8th, and it still hasn't shipped! You can see from my above post, that unit I ordered direct from Apple online store on the 28th, has already shipped.

Does Apple play fair? Or, do we NOT get the whole truth from the resellers? Your guess is as good as mine. I asked an Apple salesperson about this situation on the phone the other day and he assured me that "A sale was a sale, Apple doesn't play favorites. You should ask your reseller what games they are playing to reduce their cost."

So, I ordered from Apple and canceled the prior order I placed with the local reseller. It was a tough decision since I've been dealing with them for the last 12 years.

Good Luck

Why order from reseller?

Can anyone explain why you'd order from reseller if you have a build-to-order system? If you have any problems you'd have to drag back to them and have them reorder again anyway.

I find shipping the fastest if you speak to someone at Apple store. Next best is to do online order.

In the last 4 months, I've ordered 2 new iMacs, MB, MBP, AEBS & MBP accessories and pretty much every time the Apple store phone person and online store has mailed me items faster than initial estimate.

I placed an online order for the new MBP 85W Magsafe adapter 2 days ago - at the time shipping estimate was 1-3 weeks! Surprisingly, it shipped today and I will receive tomorrow! Love that Apple efficiency! My experiences have been with Apple Canada and Australia stores.

You don't need to "reload" OS X to remove software or languages.
Here is how to remove languages:

Thanks, unfortunately I reinstalled already. It doesn't take too long if you skip the full check DVD stage. So much easier then reinstalling WinXP and app!

Wow the pixel scare immediately makes you wanna check your new computer the moment it is out of the box. Sorry to hear about that but I am with you, I just took delivery last weekend on my new 24" 2.8 model, at any rate I had already decided to stick the restore disc in and erase and start over fresh to remove all those languages and anything else.

It's best to do this before you get too acquainted with your new iMac.:)

Thanks for the info! Reinstalled. Yeah, definitely do the pixel check, I found this app very useful. I barely notice that one stuck pixel since 24" is so big and way too much trouble to complain over that.

The Horror , Fedex delivered 2 smashed boxes both 24 inch Imacs survived but the boxes and styrofoam did not. Complained to apple about the boxes, shipping out new Imac boxes to me free of charge LOL. It sucked big time when they showed up like that. Made the fedex guy write, damaged boxes delivered on his electronic gadget. Looks like they are delivering a day early than what it says on FedEx tracking. Must be cuz China is a day ahead.

Good luck to all when waiting for their Imac and no crushed boxes.

Thanks for the Pixel Check program. Not to brag but mine passed the test, it's pixel perfect, no dead or stuck pixels but I have to admit my heart was beating fast when it got to the black screen which reveals all those ugly colored stuck pixels. Cheers, enjoy your new machine, I absolutely love this new iMac. :D

It just seems odd that I'm on the west coast, yet they always fly into Indianapolis! Oh well, I guess I can wait another day. :)

I just contacted my Apple reseller.....I've been told my order could take another two to three weeks!!! (order placed on 15th of August). What the bleep is going on here.....

Some members already got their imac with exact same specs! I feel like crying right now.....:(

Hi Guys, I ordered mine from reputable Apple reseller also on August 14 in the morning as I got a quote from him on the 13th and told him to go ahead and order, and I still have not received it as it is Sept. 5th! It is driving me friggin' nuts now as I am on the verge of cancelling the order. But my patience holds me tight. I will not wait 2 more weeks if I have to.

He told me he can't track the order until it was shipped, that is when they get the tracking ID#. I also called Apple Canada Online store and they ship 4-7 days, I told her my situation and she said they get orders from the same warehouse as resellers and three weeks is too long to wait. I wander if favoritism goes to apple online stores first or does the reseller piles all orders into one to save on shipping, I wander if reseller even ordered on 14th. The reason I deal with reseller as I get a better discount and tax break for my freelance work. I am calling the reseller again today and I don't care if I bother him as he says we'll call you 30 seconds after it arrives. I have been holding off work for a new machine, I am ready to retire my Powerbook G4.

I hear you guys. I ordered a 2.8/750 on the 8th and had my credit card charged the 9th of August. I ordered from an authorized retailer in Oregon to save about $300 on tax. It is coming up on a month now. They told me tentative delivery from Apple was September 5-10, but only time will tell. Once they finally get it, I will have to wait another week for it to arrive here.

Well mine came today (a day early)! :D I ordered it on Aug 22. I also ordered a Macbook Pro at the same time and that came yesterday (also a day early). The FedEx boxes were all beat up so I was worried, but it looks like Apple did a great job of packaging cuz the Apple boxes were fine. So far so good. Unfortunately, I haven't had time to play with it this morning before heading to work. I'm just glad the wait is over cuz it was killing me.

Both my boxes were crushed but Imac's survived.

I don't know what they do with those packages when they are shipped.. I shipped an iMac once I sold to someone and the thing got pierced by a forklift it seemed. I mean, there was a nice cut going through the box and right into the side of the computer.. It cracked the case on the old plastic iMac. I suppose these new Aluminum iMacs would stand up to that kind of thing better but still, what do they do with those packages when they are in transit?!

apple lies

My Aug. 14th order has not come yet, but was told it is in transit to apple Canada's distribution unit. The are 191 24" iMac orders in that skid. Apparently there is shortage of 24" monitors now due to overwhelming demand.

Just got inside information regards apple's shipping practices here in Canada and U.S., apple seems to prioritize shipping orders to their own online store in US and apple stores prior shipping items to resellers. This is why all resellers orders have taken 2-3 longer to arrive in customers hands. Seems apple wants to encourage people to buy from them instead of resellers. They seem to forget that before apple stores, resellers were selling they stuff for more than 20 years and made apple who they are today.

Apple just wants to steal customers from resellers and drive them down. Such an unfair practice. No wander apple is giving perks to online customers for late orders. We all should contact apple and bitch to them top give us same benefits as online orders (free wireless upgrades, free apple care, etc.) as we are also spending our hard earned cash.

Apple states that iMac orders online are 3-5 days, in reality it is 3-5 days from manufacturer then another 1-3 weeks to your house, that's a total of 2-4 weeks. There is no reason to cancel your orders from resellers now.

Apple online store for US, now says 1-3 days for 24", 2-4 days for 20" iMacs. I agree what you say about Apple, but, I've already canceled my order from reseller and reordered from Apple. I already had my G4 + Apple Studio 17" monitor sold and that person has been calling me every day wanting his purchase. So I felt pressured to reorder once I found online orders were moving much faster.

Best of luck to all still waiting. :)

I agree with you about what Apple is probably doing in the background but you have to understand it's all about "Sales". Keep in mind Apple has to pay a portion of profits to the resellers which is why the resellers can offer so many deals.
Sorry to say but common sense should tell anyone to order it directly from the manufacturer in order to get the best service. I ordered directly over the phone with Apple and my iMac shipped a day before the delivery date and no issues.

3-5 days?

I ordered mine last week (2.8ghz 24 with 1tb hard drive), and it's out until October 16th before it's scheduled to ship. I'd be delighted with 3-5 days.

Wonder if it would get here faster if I swapped out the big drive for a smaller one like the 750.

Never mind. Looks like it was 4-6 wait for the wireless keyboard. Cancelled and rebooked. 1-3 business days ;-).

Looks like I'm driving to FedEx to pick up my iMac - it shipped on the 2nd with expedited shipping but I just called FedEx and they said the package missed the courier so I'd have to wait until tomorrow (the 7th) if I wanted the package to be delivered.

I did wonder about the right side of my screen (just the edge) seemed darker but at other times it seems normal, guess it's prolly due to me having the dimmer down that might be giving that impression. Other than that, screen looks to gorgeous to find any flaws with it.

You know, I was thinking that the right side of my screen looked a little dimmer at times too...but I only notice once in a while when it's on a white background...and you really have to be looking for it. My other half is an artist and has a keen eye and said if I hadn't pointed it out to her, she'd never have seen it...and she still really has to look hard to find it at all-if it's even there (she also knows how picky I can be and thinks I need to lighten up!) :p

Bottom line: If I have to look that hard to find it, I'm not gonna worry about it ...now back to enjoying this gorgeous display! :D
